Megan Brien (loumeg) | 1 comments Hey guys! I'm Megan!
My goal this year is to read at least 12 books, so at least one book a month. I'm ahead of schedule!
I'm not the fastest reader, cause I thought reading wasn't cool and only for smart people when I was a kid (how wrong I was), so I'm excited to see if I can complete the challenge!
Any recommendations for scif-fi or fantasy books with lots of character development and cool universe descriptions would be awesome! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, so anything similar I will LOVE. Hope to make a few friends on here, so feel free to drop me a message anytime!

That's a nice goal, challenging but doable, even more now you have joined our group ;-)
I'm not the fastest reader myself. For me, joining this group in 2017 was a real help to get me to read more. I started out with a tentative goal of 12 books like yourself, upped it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books!!! Still can't believe it. All thanks to this group, the great challenges, the awesome group and buddy reads and last but certainly not least, the amazing group members who were always supportive, motivating and encouraging. I hope you'll have a similar experience.

Hmm, from last year I really loved The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. It's not exactly like HP lol, but enjoyed them immensely. Then there are a bunch of series I haven't tried out yet, but really looking forward to like His Dark Materials (buddy read starting march), and many many more. I get a lot of ideas from reading other members' updates and ratings.

Hope you'll enjoy participating Megan! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!!

Hey, Megan!

I like sci-fi a lot, too, so I may have some recommendations (if you haven't read them already). Nemesis is a great one. Isaac Asimov is a great writer, so of course his other books and short stories are amazing as well. I really like sci-fi books with female main characters, so another favorite of mine is Contact
If you're looking for a series, you should check out Ender's Game

Hope you like them!

Hi, Allyson!

I just finished reading Slapstick, or Lonesome No More!. It's SUPER good, and a quick read! I would consider it a dystopian novel, but some claim it's sci-fi. Either way, it's a great book, and I think it might be a good one for you!

I love to read pretty much anything and everything, as long as it doesn't make me uncomfortable.
I found this group because it popped up on the recently active, and I hand't joined a group yet- as I'm new to GoodReads.
My reading goal is 80 books!

Daphney Breton-Rioux (daphneyrioux) My name's Daphney. I'm currently studying French literature in University of Sherbrooke (QC). I'm a francophone so please excuse me if my English is not perfect. So, obviously, I read a lot, but many books I read are mandatory titles for school and I try as much as possible to read a lot of books for my personal pleasure during summer or Christmas break.
A lot of the books I read are from France or Québec, since I'm from Québec as well. But I also read in English (I don't appreciate translated books as much, I feel like the quality of the writing is always a bit lost in a translation). I like almost every genre, but especially young adult fiction, thrillers and fiction.
Also, I don't only read, I write. I haven't written anything big yet but one of my goals in life is definitely to be published someday.

So this is me in my natural habitat :P

Oh! One more thing!! I'm a HUGE fan of Batman and Star Wars! And the place I'm from is called "Laforce" so I literally am a Jedi because I am FROM "The Force" (yes, I do use this joke to pick up guys! Does it work? Not as much as you would think).

Hi Paula welcome to the group! YA and non-fiction that is a nice stretch do you like to read different things in between? I completely get the waiting on Game of Thrones my best friend had me watch all 6 seasons before the start in July lol (dont ask I did make it but did lots less reading) I think you might enjoy the Dig Deeper challenge and hope you have a great time reaching your goal.

Mandy! (gwenhwyfear) | 35 comments Howdy, everyone! I'm Mandy, and I'm from Minnesota (near where they just had the Super Bowl, but not close enough where it annoyed me.) I like reading a variety of things, but mostly smutty GLBT romances. I found the group by looking at the Group page and searching for challenge communities--I'm descending into being a challenge fanatic; but since I'm aiming for 100+ books this year, hopefully the addiction proves to be helpful.

Good luck to everyone on their goals!

You're very welcome Tiina! Check out the welcome message I sent you January 13th. It mentions how to set up your personal challenge thread and/or member corner where you can keep track of your reads and your progress in the challenges you participate in. There's also a lot of other information about this group and everything it has to offer. Only thing different is our group read of the month (since we're now in February), which is The Lightning Thief: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
Also you can no longer sign up for the February Twin reads, but you can sign up for the March twin reads:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

You also might want to check out our buddy reads for February which you can still join:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

All the other links are the same (about our yearly challenges, general info and guidelines for twin, buddy and group reads, and much more).

Check out the info in the personal message and the links above. If you have any questions about them, please let me know!

Irfken | 19 comments Hi! I'm Irf from Kenya. This is just the group I'm looking for as I need all the motivation I can get. Whenever I read a rather middling book, I fall into a reading rut and that's where I am at the moment. I read Voyager by Diana Gabaldon (Outlander Book 3) and was completely disappointed. This group seems so supportive and that's just lovely to see so it's a pleasure joining. I mostly read historical fiction and classics but I want to expand my reading horizons this year and read from other genres except YA which I've tried and realized isn't for me. I want to read more books this year but I'm erratic so for now I've pledged to read an embarrassing seven books this year. I hope that's a tentative number and can really enjoy more books.

Kristen | 1 comments Hi all!

I'm new to goodreads but love the concept of the platform. I'm hoping to use goodreads as a way to learn about new literature and hold myself accountable to a reading goal. I love reading for pleasure but am a first year PhD student, so I've been finding it more difficult than ever to make time for myself and to read non-PhD related material.

I'm originally from Philadelphia but have lived in Washington DC for the last 5 years. I don't have a favorite genre per se but I'm a sucker for thrillers or a book with a strong female lead... and I love both fiction and non-fiction alike. I have been on goodreads to check out reviews of novels before purchasing but found the social aspect of the platform through a friend.

My reading goal for this year is a modest 12 books (a book a month). This first year of grad school has been so much work but I want to hold myself accountable for reading outside of my area of study (biomedical science). I've already read one book so far this year- Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, so I'm on my way!
