Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2018

I'm just starting to read the books hehe. But I've logged hundreds of hours into TW3, which was the reason I wanted to start reading it.

I am a bookworm and I love cats (as can be seen from my username), especially Maine Coons :) I don’t know why , i just find them so lovable ! I love to read mysteries, thrillers and classics and am in desperate need of book recommendations 😩 I’m looking forward to a fun year of reading interesting and exciting books, connecting with others who share the same interest in books as I do, and perhaps discovering good books and fantastic genres along the way ! :D

...
I found about the group cause I was looking forward of joining a book club and meeting new people that love books just as much as I do. ..."
Hi Estefany, welcome to the group! You have come to the right place to meet fellow book lovers who enjoy a variety of genres. Hope you'll have an amazing time here!

Hi Duffy, welcome to the group! Hope you'll enjoy it here. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Katie, welcome to the group! Hope you'll have fun participating!

Hi Jakob, welcome! Glad you decided to participate more actively. It is a fun group to do so. Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do. Will you be joining the challenges this year? And I'd recommend the monthly group and buddy reads if you like to read and discuss books together! I'm a big fan; they're quite addictive lol

I am Bedanta. I am from Nagaon, Assam; which is a north eastern state of India.
I am a new user and I am not familiar with different places of Goodreads. Is there any guiding video for new user ? "
Hi Bedanta, welcome to the group. No I don't think there's any video. All new members do get a message explaining how to navigate the group. And there's the thread How to do things on GR: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
If you have any questions, you can send me a message or post it on the thread Questions for mods: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Good luck!!

Hi Reyna, welcome to the group! I think you'll be meeting a lot of people who love to read as much as you do! :)
Hope you'll enjoy participating. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Kat, welcome to the group!
I'm a cat lover like you, though I don't have a preference.
I always find it hard to give recommendations, but if you're looking for those AND to connect with fellow book lovers you might want to join the monthly group and buddy reads. That way you get ideas for what to read ánd get to read and discuss them with others. I have to say they're a lot of fun and quite addictive (I'm a fan obviously). We'll be starting with Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot series for example if you like mysteries. This month we're doing The Picture of Dorian Gray and Sense and Sensibility.
Hope you'll have an amazing time participating in this group. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!!

I love YA contemporary and fiction also Middle grade books but I don't mind reading other genres.
I can easily go from reading non-stop to only reading a book a month.
My year is going to be super busy but my goal is still to read 100 books.
Let's just hope that I don't get stuck in a reading slump again.

Hi Charlé, welcome to the group! Actively participating is a very effective strategy to prevent getting stuck in a reading slump, at least that is my experience. Hope it will be the same for you! Have fun!

I tend to prefer fantasy or sci-fi novels, especially ones with LGBT themes. I didn't get as much reading done last year as I would have liked, but I'm hoping to do better this year!
I play a lot of video games in my spare time: Guild Wars 2 and Starbound have been my poisons lately. I enjoy podcasts such as the Penumbra Podcast, and I also do some writing, though I'm terrible at staying on one project for a long time.

Welcome to the group Kit! Hope you'll have an amazing time here! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Shekella, welcome to the group! Have a look around at everything this group has to offer: great challenges, interesting and fun group/buddy/twin reads, chat-away-threads etc. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thank you

Other than reading I love old music (50s to 70s), creative writing and crafty stuff like scrapbooking and journaling. Every once in a while I binge play Sims 4 for a bit and then don't touch it for months.
I also can't believe that I did a reading challenge for half of 2017 and never even checked out the community. Social media annoys me so I'm sure my time will be better spent on goodreads.

My goal for 2018 is 50 books. I hope to read more, but I like some wiggle room, especially since I homeschool two very active kids as well.
I enjoy mysteries, suspense/thrillers, some romance, and contemporary fiction.
Happy Reading!

I've set 12 again for this year, hope to beat it though. I've tried a couple of genres, willing to try more.
This is my first time using the community, hope to speak to you all again.

I have a soft spot for 19th century poetry and Shakespeare.

Hi Michelle, welcome to the group! Glad you checked out the community now and decided to join our group. There are a lot of great challenges you may want to check out. Also I'm a big fan of the monthly group and buddy reads (warning: they're very addictive). So have a look around and see what interests you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

My name is Steve and I'm 33 years old. I usually don't tend to have any favorite book genres or authors but if I have a fall back genre I tend to always enjoy, it's the classics. ....I look forward to meeting a lot of you. Please feel free to add me as a friend.
Hi Steven, welcome to the group! I'm sure you're going to meet a lot of great fellow readers here! Have you checked out all the great challenges? And I have to mention the monthly group and buddy reads, they're really interesting and fun to do! Hope you'll have an amazing time participating :)

I enjoy mysteries, suspense/thrillers, some romance, and contemporary fiction.
Happy Reading! "
Welcome to the group Michelle! Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did this past year. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Emma, welcome to the group! For me, joining this group in 2017 was a real help to get me to read more/get back into reading after a reading slump of many years. I started out with a tentative goal of 12 books, upped it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books!!! All thanks to this group, the great challenges, the awesome group and buddy reads and last but certainly not least, the amazing group members who were always supportive, motivating and encouraging. I hope you'll have a similar experience. Looking forward to you updates!! :)

Welcome to the group Julia! Hope you'll have an amazing time here! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Eli (it is shorter and as you say, your GR name, otherwise difficult for me to remember), welcome to the group!
I know it sounds really cliché but you have to love yourself for other people to be able to love you too! Wishing you all the best and a lot of strength. It's there inside of you, you just have to find it and allow yourself to feel it.
I'm sorry but don't have any book recommendations for you. If you would really like some I think you have a better chance if you asked for them in our Let's chat thread because more people tend to read that. Just add a new topic here.
Good luck!

Hi Florence, welcome to the group! I think you have taken the first step to stay motivated to read by joining this group. At least that's how it has worked for me. I had been in a reading slump for many years when I joined this group last year. I started out with a tentative goal of 12 books, upped it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books!! All thanks to this group, it's great challenges, fun monthly group and buddy reads and all the wonderful group members who are really supportive, motivating and encouraging. I'm especially fan of the group and buddy reads: it's real fun to read and discuss books together with fellow group members and I read some books I probably wouldn't have otherwise, so I highly recommend them :)
Have fun!!

I like to read romance, paranoramal, erotica, some mystery.
I found the group when I was going through my groups and setting up my challenges.
My goal is to read 150 books this year.

I also like Milly Johnson, Carole Matthews, Fern Britton, Daphne Du Maurier and Santa Montifiore.
I love books which hold family secrets and go back to past loves!
I am a member of the 'Book Shop Cafe' facebook page and that's how I learnt about the reading challenge. My challenge this year is 54 books.
Oh by the way I work voluntarily for a charity bookshop. How lucky is that?

Hi Beatriz, welcome to the group! Wow, you do like (almost) all genres! Are there books you do NOT like to read??
As to your leading less than you used to, as I told Florence, joining this group really worked miracles for me! Welcome to the group Lady! I saw that you are finding your way around the group. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Lynda, welcome to the group! Hope you'll enjoy this group as much as I do! Have fun!

Welcome to the group Sandra! Where in the Netherlands do you live? I live in Amsterdam!
I use to read a lot but lost my reading mojo somewhere in 2016 and around last Christmas (a week ago yes) I decided it was time to start reading more books again -simply by turning of the tv, stop staring at my iPhone lol and grab a book, tea and some biscuits and read-.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Turning off all those screens really helps. What also helps is joining this group! At least that has been my experience. I had been in a reading slump for many years when I joined this group last year. I started out with a tentative goal of 12 books, upped it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books!! All thanks to this group, it's great challenges, fun monthly group and buddy reads and all the wonderful group members who are really supportive, motivating and encouraging.
...I joined this group because I thought the ‘TBR twins’ would be fun! "
Well I haven't join the twin reads yet, but I am a FAN (yes, capital letters) of the monthly group and buddy reads!! Maybe I'll see you there!
Have fun!!

Hi Coll, welcome to the group! I'm sorry but I did call you Colleen in your welcome message... I hope I will remember (don't have a great memory...)
I am open to reading so many types of books but my favorite genres are sci-fi, dystopian, horror, historical fiction (mainly war related) and YA. Yes, not ashamed to admit I am a huge YA fan. Those are my favorite genres but I will really read anything, with the exception of romance.
Same here!
I am also a writer and hope to get a lot more of that done in 2018 too.
Cool! What kind of stories do you write?
I was looking for group to join where it seemed like I would have fun and make some good reading buddies and this group seemed perfect. So hello to everyone and I look forward to being a part of the group. :-) "
You have definitely come to the right place!! Hope to join you in some of the buddy reads and group reads,
Have fun!!!

I like lots of different book genres it just depends on my mood but I tend to mostly read crime/thrillers or fantasy books.
I have set myself a reading challenge of 50 books this year because I overshot my goal of 26 by a fair bit last year. My challenge is made up of some of the Popsugar prompts but a friend and I have also picked a book from the New York Times Bestseller list that we had not read, one from each year since our date of birth just for something a bit different.
Hoping to broaden my reading horizons a wee bit and maybe even get a few recommendations from fellow book lovers. Generally hoping to do more with my goodreads app as well :)

I'm Candice and I live in Canada. I love to read basically anything that can take me away from my busy and chaotic world. Mystery, Horror, YA, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, and Paranormal. This year I plan on adding western to my repertoire as well. My reading goal is 52 books this year.
Nice to meet you all and good luck accomplishing your goals. :)

I am Saurabh Farkya, I recently joined this group. I am born in India and currently live in Orlando, Florida.
I love science fiction, thrillers, mystery kind of books. I look forward to exploring other genres as well.
I hope to read a book per month!

I’m Tiffany, 38 from Houston, TX. I wanted to quickly introduce myself and share a little about me. I’ve been an avid reader since I first read the Sweet Valley Twins series as a kid. I progressed to loving Black Beauty followed by Shakespeare. Then one day my mom received a box of books in the mail. (I believe this was either the Harlequin book club or the Avon book club and I smuggled a historical romance and promptly fell in love at 13. I decided to be a writer so my grandma bought me a Brother typewriter and I wrote my first historical romance novel at 13. No, it wasn’t published. I realized that at 13 I probably don’t know much about life...or history...or sex, so I decided to try again when I grew up. Needless to say I’ve yet to write that second book, and sadly I’ve long since lost my first one, but it’s okay! I lose myself frequently in the written word and lean towards romance (historical and contemporary), young adult, psychological thrillers, and ghost/horror. I also adore biographies most particularly those that aren’t about modern people.
Clearly I love to read and feel passionately about it. When I’m not enthralled in a book, I’m a mom to a teenaged son and daughter and work in benefits administration all while being married to my best friend.
I can’t wait to get to know you all!! Happy new year!

I just happened to stumble on this group and look forward to meeting everyone.
I’m fairly friendly so feel free to drop a line!

I read a lot as a kid (in 6th grade I went through ~220 books in the space of the school year) but pretty much stopped reading in my late teens. Then a friend of mine introduced me to Goodreads a few years back and the ability to record and keep track of what I'd been reading sucked me back in. Obviously works for me, since in 6th grade our teacher made us write down all the books we read, when we started and finished, etc., which is what drove me to read all those books in the first place.
Anyway, I've been steadily increasing the amount of books I read each year, and this year I'm aiming for two a month (or 24). I read 20 in 2017, just barely meeting my goal because I could never find any time to read. I actually finished the last chapter of the 20th book today (January 1) - a book I started in the middle of the night on Dec 31 just to be able to meet my goal.
I haven't quite figured out what my preferred genre is. I pretty much alternate between fiction and nonfiction and I've found I quite like dystopian novels (1984 is my favorite book, hands down). This past year I actually read quite a bit of sci-fi, which isn't a genre I would've said I liked had anybody asked me. Turns out I do (probably goes hand in hand with my preference for dystopias, now that I think about it).
Alright, word vomit over. See y'all around.
