What were your least favorite books of the Fall 2017 Challenge? Which books didn't meet your expectations?

message 2: by Donna (new)

Donna | 1271 comments I only had one 1-star rating. It was A Million Suns. However, I did have eleven 2-star ratings.

Deborah | 1667 comments The Girl Next Door Far too graphic for me, couldn't handle it. One star
This Rough Magic While I loved Nine Coaches Waiting I found the characters in this book to be rather boring. Two stars

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments I ended up with more one-stars than usual this challenge.

Maximum Bob - I only liked a couple of the characters, really didn't care what happened to the rest, and there was a casual racist/misogynist air to it that made me uncomfortable.

The Aeneid - again, I just didn't care what happened to anyone

Under the Coconut Tree - I'd expected something quirky and more like Tarquin Hall's Vish Puri series, but it turns out this was a straight procedural, and not a good one at that

Middlemarch - I know a lot of people love this book, but I just wanted it to end!

Pam (bluegrasspam) I didn't have any least favorites since I quit reading a book if I don't like it!
*I'm editing this comment since I did actually have one book that I had to PUSH my way through. I needed it to finish an annual challenge and to help with 2 others: The Master and Margarita. I had high hopes for this one but it was not my kind of book!

steph (librarianish) (steph_davidson) | 540 comments I wanted to love Red Rising. On paper, it looks like something I'd love. But once it got into the strategy of battle, books like this totally lose my interest. Two stars.

And I abandoned The Undoing Project: A Friendship That Changed Our Minds. I thought it was really poorly written/edited to make it seem casual, and it wasn't at all what I expected. I need to stop reading books like this, written about academic subjects but jazzed-up for the public.

Jennifer | 72 comments The Traitor's Wife: The Woman Behind Benedict Arnold and the Plan to Betray America was a one star for me. Also The Chocolate War.

Dreaming the Eagle was SO boring, which was a disappointment because I had really been looking forward to that one.

The General in His Labyrinth and At Day's Close: Night in Times Past were also one stars!

I guess I had bad luck this past time. Hope Winter's books are better for me!

Siobhan J | 409 comments Falling Into Bed with a Duke was absolutely dire, and I hated both of the main characters with a passion.

The Turn of the Screw SHOULD'VE been up my alley, I love gothic stuff, but was so pointlessly melodramatic that I ended up reading most of it through gritted teeth.

Little Women is beloved by all... Except me. I found it quite boring, and - again - disliked most of the characters.

Otherwise, I didn't have any I particularly hated!
