Amanda | 67 comments Wow! I buy a lot buy I could never imagine having that many, or the amount of money it would take to amass all of those... and yet somehow I am jealous of their collection.. lol

Whenever I move house my first criterion is to check whether it has wall space for my bookshelves, but nothing to that extent.

message 53: by Brad (new)

Brad (bradbe) | 1 comments I actually converted the main bedroom in the apartment in my basement into a library. I would guess I have about 10,000 books - all sorted and placed in categories for easy finding. Every one of those books are books that I have already read or books that I really want to read. If I have no desire to read a book I don't keep it. Therefore, I definitely have far more books than I will ever be able to read, yet I love them all and I am always acquiring more. Though I am a book addict, I wouldn't call myself a hoarder since they are all neatly on shelves and I can easily find any book that I own - though I am well aware that that is exactly what a hoarder would say ; )

Michaela | 1 comments Too many to count O.O

message 55: by John (new)

John (frayerbanac) | 336 comments Brad, your comment made me grin from ear to ear. In the room where I sleep, there are a good 8,000 (wall to wall of course). In boxes beneath the stairs there are approximately another 3,000. My passion I wouldn't describe as hoarding, I don't think, as I'm always taking the odd box to the local charity shops after I've whittled some never-gonna-read-again volumes out (in my neck of the woods there are only a smattering of readers). I purchase, on average, a couple a week, so the number generally remains pretty constant. Although you can't beat a physical book, I own various e-book readers (Kindle, iPad) which contain around 15,000 books (it's fantastic these days that we can carry a complete library around in our bag or our pocket!). About a quarter of the e-books are complete collections (Dickens, Melville, Trollope, Twain, Jack London, Hardy, Stevenson, Robert E. Howard, Lovecraft, Conan Doyle...) which I dip into occasionally. Have I read them all? Pretty much. I started reading seriously when I was about eight and have never stopped (I'm 56). It's the best drug ever.

I wish my fiance would also see it that way lol. For the most part he is okay with me having a small library in the house, but now I want bookcases in the bedroom and living room.. I don't think it will ever stop and one day I am just going to have a house of books.

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

I have 279 books, I know because I cried when I moved house and had to give away over 300 (I just don't have the space anymore). I narrowed it down to the ones I love, and felt I could read over and over again, and 50 that I haven't read yet. I have 2 kindles, one with over 3000 books on it (probably only read about 15% of them), and my second has about 50 books on it.
I still miss my physical books, even though I have replaced most of them with ebook versions. :(

message 58: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments I probably only have about 150-200 physical books and Amazon says I have 1373 books in their archives.

message 59: by Delmy (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) I think I have about 300+ books, they're kind of spread out and I've never gotten around to counting. I know I have almost every single Stephen king books, and a lot of other stuff. I would like more but books are expensive on a student budget! :P

message 60: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 1043 comments I've got 14 overflowing bookcases in my house. The headboard of my bed is a book case; the top of my refrigerator is a bookcase; my entertainment center hold books as well as movies; pluss I have stacks of books on tables and desks.

But I don't have an actual count. One day, maybe, but not yet. I have around 100 Stephen King books (he has a bookcase all to himself--and I need to get another one), 100+ Easton Press books, a lot of trade HC's I've bought over the years, children's books I've saved, cookbooks, etc. I also have over 200 college textbooks (from myself and my brothers and sister). When my grandmother passed away in 1993, I got her collection of mysteries (HCs and paperbacks), which doubled my collection.

Plus, I have around 10 ebooks on my computer (the only e-reader I ever ahd was a Christmas present that I returned--not my thing).

My house is a library. It makes me happy! :D

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 484 comments So many that more than half are in boxes in my walk in closet. I'll never finish them all before I die and I feel a little bad for that. But I want more... :)

Elke (misspider) | 651 comments K4tie wrote: "Ditto - there is literally no way I will ever read every book I own. Not even if there was a way to healthily not eat, or sleep, or do anything but read... Uh that sounds kinda terrible, but anyway..."

That's exactly how I feel, too. Every time I think about it I frantically start making lists of books I definitely MUST read before it's 'too late', but then I find some new title and it won't hurt to quickly squeeze it in, will it?

I used to have over 1500 books (and still have I guess, if e-books count, too), as I could not walk past a bookstore without purchasing something. Guess I am a little book 'messie' (the dictionary translates that to a compulsive hoarder). However, I had to sell/give away a large part to make room for a nursery.

It was hard at first to part with my little treasures but now I look on the bright side of it, because a) with the sale's money I can buy new books, b) it feels pretty good to 'punish' a poor book by giving it away and c) I can buy lots of children's book as well ;)

Today I'm still a messie (still surprised that this is no English word, or is it? My auto correct claims it isn't) but mostly with e-books, and as long as my kindle cloud doesn't explode that's ok I guess ;)

lina (weepingtardis7207) | 3 comments Kindle so far 300 in paperback a lot...but those are my favorite that read over and over

message 64: by Doseofbella (new)

Doseofbella (goodreadscomdoseofbella) | 27 comments About 3200 books at this time. I am always adding more, more, and a couple more. That count includes ebooks also. I would be crushed if I ever lost them, so I keep them safe in ebook format. No water or fire damage that way.

message 65: by K4tie (new)

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 484 comments Oh man if kindle exploded I would be devastated. I wasn't even counting the thousands of digital books. I had to switch to save space, but I still buy and receive physical books. I hope they never stop printing them, although it seems that the industry may shift to that. I wonder if physical libraries will become a thing of the past.

:(

sonya marie madden | 926 comments About 700, including nook books. I'm trying to donate my read books to soldiers and go to my town library

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 484 comments Sonya that is awesome!

message 68: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 926 comments i had the nook donated to me from a friend. 390 books on it

message 69: by K4tie (new)

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 484 comments The nook is great, but I meant the donation and library part. More people should try to do things like that. I can't imagine being away from home with nothing to read. Well actually I can because I have been and I don't like it. I used to get in trouble for packing too many books. I used to read while waiting at restaurants with my family because it made me feel less anxious and socially awkward or out of place. Reading is like coming home for me. So thank you for passing on that pleasure to others by donating. :)

message 70: by Leah (new)

Leah Labbe | 53 comments Printed books I am guessing somewhere around 500? I have 5 very full bookcases, and some in random other spots. Kindle books I have around 11k. I did the math once, and I would have to finish a book every other day for the next 65 years to read all the books I have not finished yet - assuming I stop buying books - which will never happen.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 955 comments I think of hoarding and book collecting/bibliophile as something different...although I guess it you reach a million like he's talking about, there may be a problem brewing!

message 72: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 926 comments Erin, I consider it hoarding when the books get ruined by dog mess, cat mess, or mice--as books are on the floor, not cared about.

Kimberly Vanderbloom (kvanderbloom) | 4 comments I own around 200 books but i donated most of them when I moved 3 years ago

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I donate almost everything that isn't a gift or a signed copy but I also keep a small 'apocalypse box' of paperbacks just in case the day comes where I can't plug in my Kindle due to hurricanes, zombies, etc...

Yes, I can see how that would be undesirable!

A book/kindle is like a security blanket for me. I don't leave home without one even if I'm too busy to actually read it. As long as it's there, I'm calm and cool. For the most part anyway. It's a great way to ignore everyone around you without being rude.

message 80: by Marie (new)

Marie | 4029 comments Well lets see: I have about 200 physical books and a little over 200 on my kindle, plus another 250 on my amazon cloud. So that makes about 650 books total. Well that is what I have now, but with my book addiction that could very well change in the next month or so. lol

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

About 1,400 digital. 300 physical.

message 82: by Tim (new)

Tim Gunter | 154 comments Is it sad that I honestly have no clue how many books I actually own? All I know is I have 4 bookshelves (3 with 5 shelves and 1 with 3) and they're basically overflowing, with constant additions despite the lack of space. I actually just bought a kindle for the sole purpose of having the option of going digital to save space, even though I'm not a fan at all of digital over physical copies.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 397 comments I have no idea but it is a staggering amount. I DO teach English to high school students so I blame my job for it all, because technically I could potentially use ANY of my books for work at ANY given time, you know? --Jen from Quebec :0)

I have 7 full bookcases, and many many (like 8) full cardboard boxes

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 397 comments About 340 or so on Kindle laptop app, although, SOME of those are repeats of books that I have a physical copy of....I will never NOT buy hard copies of books.

Just checked the Amazon archives....nearly 900 there, and at least 1500 physical--not counting any of the kids' books--they have at least 350-400 on their shelves. My 10-yr old just got a paperwhite for Christmas (that I control the content of, naturally), so I imagine this number will grow fantastically, as he's already read one book--over 400 pages--and is on a second one the day after he got it...

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Roughly 1,200 books on my kindle and about 400 physical copies/books, I guess.

I blame bookbub for the large amount of kindle books

message 91: by Beth (last edited Dec 27, 2016 11:28AM) (new)

Beth (bcopanos) | 77 comments I have about 1500 books on my Kindle Fire, 300 on my Paperwhite, & I have 6 large book shelves that are 3/4 full of books. But I also donate a lot of books to my local Library & County Jail, so it varies. Plus I have about 5yrs. of National Geographics that I plan to catch up on next year instead of killing my eyes doing a major Reading Challenge! LOL

message 92: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Willox | 92 comments Probably about 200 physical copies. My wife keeps about 600 on her kindle. We tend to donate read books, though I keep all my Stephen King copies

message 93: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Counting both physical and ebooks hmm..I'd say 200+ or so. Which probably doesn't seem like a lot but then again I'm guessing and have no plans on counting lol.

message 94: by Trinity (new)

Trinity | 81 comments I thought it was a large number but after reading some of these I guess not - roughly 120 - 130

Kristin (Blood,Sweat and Books) (goodreadscomhermyoni) | 26 comments Physical books about 100. Audio and Kindle books phew over 2k easily. For a time that's all I bought because I had no room for hard copies.

Probably have at least 1000 right now and I was thinking of spending the day tomorrow at a used book store. I have a pleasant addiction to books.

message 97: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 81 comments I used to have a list but I gave up on it some years ago ....

I would guess at 2500 DTBs all over the house and about 4000 ebooks ...

obviously more than I will ever read but it just makes us feel good to have them doesn't it :)

message 98: by T.W. (new)

T.W. Faison (goodreadscomtwfaison) | 56 comments Way too many, but I've outgrown a lot of them and keep them in storage. I've also donated a lot of them to libraries and whatnot. However I'd say I still have a solid two hundred Ebooks and about twenty or so physical books I can never part with.

message 99: by Itzzy (new)

Itzzy (itzzybitzzy) I re organized my bookshelves about two days ago, which took forever. I currently have over 300 books in various genres. I have ran out of space for books and book cases, but that won't stop me from reading.

message 100: by Maxine (new)

Maxine (Booklover Catlady) (booklovercatlady) | 42 comments I've got approx 300 paperbacks of which 98% are unread. Then I have about 750 books on iBooks on my iPad then 2,859 on my Kindle. Yes - book addict.

So around 4,000 books give it take.
