Summer | 276 comments I read a heavily annotated academic edition of Dracula in Ireland, published before 2010. I think it included both Dracula and the short story Dracula's Guest, as well as some essays, though I'm not certain. I really enjoyed its footnotes and analysis, and I remember a couple in particular -
1) the footnote was about the three vampire women attacking Harker, and mentioned the "churning sound of her tongue" and said something like "I have tried many times, both passionately and calmly, to reproduce that sound" but admitted defeat and speculated about vampire mouth anatomy.
2) the footnote was about Lucy Westenra's first vampire bite, and how Mina mistook it for a stab with a pin. The footnote wondered how Dracula was biting down in order to only leave holes like that - perhaps he only bit with one side of his mouth?

Ayshe | 4721 comments The Essential Dracula? It has I have tried, calmly as well as passionatelv, to reproduce this churning sound with my tongue but without success. It may be a noise that only a passionate vampire can make.
