It's clear to me Cherie. It's a good idea to leave messages to yourself for clarity. I'm sure I'll want to swap books over at some stage and it would be very easy get in a mudfle.

Going back and editing an earlier post doesn't work for me, even when you point it out or give message numbers. That's why I'm asking for the "Remove and move" type post (sample above), so that I don't have to go back and forth. This challenge is a lot of work for me, and I'm trying to lessen that by having all new information put into a new post.

Task: Read a book where illness is a major theme.
Book Link: Doomsday Book *
★★★★ read Jan 17th
How It Fits: Flu and Black Plague are the illnesses featured in the story.
The story is a little on the long side, on both ends of the time line. It is entertaining and gruesome at the same time. 1348 was when the Bubonic Plague first appeared in England.

I hope this is better, Janice. It leaves Badge 1 book 8 of 12 on the previous page, but makes it more clear what I did with the books and gives you the two new posts.I am currently at eight books for badge 1 and two books for badge 2.
Hopefully, it won't happen again. Whew.

Glad it worked, Cherie!!!

My comment referred to the way you suggested that substitutions should be done - but that comment was on a different thread lol I think i may have added to the confusion!
It must take huge time and effort on your part to keep us all on track Janice - not to mention the imagination that goes into creating the things! I couldn't do it in a millennium :-))

Nope,it must take real commitment and patience too..Thanks for that Janice!
We already had it sorted, Cherie. You didn't need to report everything again. Just leave it now and move on to your next book.
Badge 2 , Book 3 of 24 Zodiac Sign: Capricorn
Category: Stone-Quartz
Task: Read a time-travel book. The words "Time Travel" must be on the main book page as a genre.
Book Link: To Say Nothing of the Dog
★★★ read Jan 24th
How It Fits: "Time Travel" is on the main book page.
This is the second book of the Oxford Time Travel series. Most of the action is back in 1888, but trips to 2018, 1940 and 1395 also occurred - all from 2057.
I didn't like it as much, Janice. I liked Ned and Verity but the story line was too convoluted. I didn't like many of the other characters either, except Finch. I'm sure it was after the events in the first book, but had none of the warmth or drama. It was just pedantic. Have you read either of the two other books? It is strange that they are grouped with the two Oxford Time Travel books, but they have a different series name. They are not available from my library and I don't want to pay the $9-10 dollars that Barnes & Noble want for the ebooks. I might recommended that my library buy the ebooks, if you think they are worth reading.
I was advised to skip that one but I tend to be a bit anal about following series! It's actually next up on my challenge list but i have been having such a bad run lately that I think I will go for somethink else.If you chose to continue the Oxford series Cherie, I hear that books 3 and 4 are quite good :-)

No, I haven't even marked the other two books as "wishlist". It's weird - they're listed as a series "All Clear", but when you look at the book page for Blackout, it says "Oxford Time Travel #3". It's all so confusing when there are sub-series or series set in the same worlds.
I plan to read To Say Nothing of the Dog for this challenge as well. But I haven't read anything else by this author. If I like it, I may have to check out Doomsday Book.
Susan - Having just read both books, I'm not sure I would have been as interested in reading Doomsday, if I had read To Say Nothing of the Dog first. What drew me was the supposed tie in with the Jerome K. Jerome book of Three Men in a Boat, To Say nothing of the Dog. I had read this one a few years ago and I wanted to know what they had in common. I got my answer, but it was not a large part of the story. That part was funny though. Janice had also warned me that there was a spoiler alert in the book concerning The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. I had already read this one too, so I was interested to see what it was. Unbelievably, to me, the author gives away the answer to who stole the moonstone. If you are reading To Say Nothing for the time travel option, I would suggest Doomsday instead. It was my first choice for this task until I realized that the book I had chosen for the illness task was not going to work, so I switched it and read the 2nd book.
I am looking forward to what Janice thinks about Doomsday. :o)

And the resolutions of the story was also good, no (view spoiler)
I read both Blackout and All Clear and enjoyed them both. I actually liked them better than the other ones. I think because I was more interested in the the time period and events. I had never read anything about the Blitz or about British women's role in World War II and found it very interesting. I hope to read some non-fiction on those subjects at some point, because of these stories.
Cherie wrote: "Susan - Having just read both books, I'm not sure I would have been as interested in reading Doomsday, if I had read To Say Nothing of the Dog first. Thanks, Janice. Looks like I'm either going to have to read Moonstone first or find a substitute for To Say Nothing of the Dog.
Suzanne wrote: "Thanks, Janice. Looks like I'm either going to have to read Moonstone first or find a substitute for To Say Nothing of the Dog."There are lots of time travel books out there! ;o)

I’ve read Doomsday Book and Blackout a while ago and liked both. Somehow I skipped To Say Nothing of the Dog.
Badge 1, Book 9 of 12 Zodiac Sign: Gemini
Category: Superheroes-Copycat
Task: Read a book from the dystopian genre, or set in the future. The word “Dystopian” needs to be listed as a genre on the main book page.
Book Link: The Lost Code, The Dark Shore and The Far Dawn
★★★ read Jan 29th
How It Fits: Dystopian is in the main book page for all three books.
The three books comprise The Atlanteans trilogy. I did not want another series hanging over my head, so I read them all. Meh.
One more book left to finish in the Akasha series now, but I am dragging around a dead tree book for my next read. Starting Blue Monday, which is the first book in the Frieda Klein series. It looks like the 8th book is due out in 2018.

We finally knock off (or nearly knock off) one series, only to torture ourselves by starting another one! We might need another serial killer challenge if we keep this up!
Suzanne wrote: "Isn't that the way it always works? We finally knock off (or nearly knock off) one series, only to torture ourselves by starting another one! We might need another serial killer challenge if we keep this up! ..."Definitely! Although, I am happy to have my list on YLTO and work it off.
The first one was blue but I have another book for that. One of the main characters was a girl under 20 but I have another book for that too. It was only two extra books and I was just glad to be done with them all now. I couldn't make all three fit in like the four Akasha books did. I'm still reading #4 and I'm really sick of it. I am happy. I know that there will be plenty of time to read other books. I still have one library book that I'm trying to decide if I'm going to read or let go back. It is another a civil war book. Have you read Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier?
i agree. i am not usually a fan of long, descriptive paragraphs in books but this one blew my socks off ;-)
Cherie wrote: "Have you read Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier? "No, I haven't read it. Wasn't it made into a movie?
Yes, it was a movie but I never watched it. I think I am convinced not to send it back to the library yet.
Badge 1, Book 10 of 12 Zodiac Sign: Cancer
Category: Symbol - Crab
Task: Read a book with any of the names of the varieties of crabs in the title.
Book Link: Blue Monday
★★★★★ read Feb 1st
How It Fits: "Blue" is a variety of crab and blue is in the book title.
Another series to add to my list.
The MC, Frieda Klein, is a psychotherapist.
This book would also fit in the month task. It starts in November, but most of it is in December, and depending on the dust jacket, it would fit the mostly black cover task too.
OUT of ORDER Badge 2, Book 4 of 24
Zodiac Sign: Taurus
Category: Element-Earth
Task: Read a book where 70% of the cover is black.
Book Link: Earth
★★ read Feb 5th
How It Fits: 70% of the cover is black
The misery is over. This series got more and more too unbelievable the longer it went on. It seemed like an interesting plot line, but it never lived up and none of the characters were really likeable. There were a few exceptions, but the MCs were not.
Cherie wrote: "The misery is over. This series got more and more too unbelievable the longer it went on."Yikes! Glad I quit when I did. You're a brave soul, Cherie.
Badge 1, Book 11 of 12 Zodiac Sign: Virgo
Category: Symbol-Maiden
Task: Read a book where the protagonist is a girl or young woman under the age of 20 and is unmarried.
Book Link: Timebound
★★★★★ read Feb 6th
How It Fits: Kate is 16 at the beginning of the story and has her 17th birthday during the story. She is unmarried.
This is the first book in a new series for me. It is a YA, Time Travel series and this was the author's debut novel. She NAILED it.
Cherie wrote: This is the first book in a new series for me. It is a YA, Time Travel series and this was the author's debut novel. She NAILED it. ..."WOW, must read asap

Not to compare books, but an interesting contrast to the time traveler discipline and 180 degrees to the question of whether the time line can "protect" itself like in Doomsday Book. I really like time travel stories. I think I have a few more to read in this challenge.
