A novel based on a real person - The Jekyll Revelation
The main character is Robert Louis Stevenson. It was a great book, right up until the VERY end. Which I just HATE :(
Just completed #8 (book with time of day in title) - Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. Good follow-up to the first book in the series. This book was not quite as enjoyable, simply because the storyline is becoming more complex. I appreciate how she's trying to make the characters more interesting and complex as the story progresses. Definitely worth reading. 4 stars14/40
#15 completed, "a book about feminism", with A Room of One's Own and Three Guineas.Currently 17/50 completed.

2. True crime - Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann 3 Stars 2/24/2018 This account is of the systematic killing of the Osage people in the 1920's for profit & how the FBI came to solve the murders.
6. A novel based on a real person - Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly 2/5/2018 3 Stars This is a holocaust novel with two of the main characters based on actual people, German doctor Herta Oberheuser who performed gruesome experiments on female concentration camp prisoners & Caroline Ferriday a NY socialite who helped in some of the victims recovery. I found this book to be very disconcerting as although well researched, it's harrowing & depressing in spots but the writing style sometimes veered into chick lit territory as we had endless chapters discussing Caroline Ferriday's crush, her dresses, her silverware, her parties etc.
16. A book about mental health - Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman - 2/11/2018 4 Stars
This is a lighthearted story with sometimes dark, emotional undertones about a woman who struggles with connection with people suddenly being forced into those connections & how she finds her way out. I did love this one & recommend it as I felt she was more than just another quirky character.
Just completed #44 (book tied to ancestry) - The Last Girls by Lee Smith. Lovely writing. I appreciate the author's perspective in capturing the unique privilege and sheltered expectations of the white southern female. With the book being set partially in the mid-60's, she shows how some of those expectations were shifting, while others did not. I really enjoyed the characters - they were not perfect, nor were their lives fixed by the end of the book. But they seemed realistic. My only criticism was I did not like how the author eluded to other women being involved in the adventure, then never really mentioned them until little synopses at the end. It was disconnected, and I didn't know who they were really or where they fit into the adventure. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars15/40
43. A book that was being read by a stranger in a public place: Astrophysics for People in a Hurryprogress: 35/50
Just completed #25 (book at sea) - Before the Fall by Noah Hawley. This is a gorgeously written and presented book! One of my favorite reads of the year thus far. The characters are interesting, and some of them present a nice parody of some real-life jerks in the media. I love how the author broke up the plot and unfolded the whole thing slowly. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars16/40
