Shazam, Debbie! You read a good pile there.

And neat seeing Sheila finishing off a few more, too.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments Thank you, Sophia.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments You and I are definitely neck-and-neck, Sheila. Although, since this ISN'T a race, perhaps I should amend that to say we're a pair of well-matched grays!

message 164: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments I like that - "well-matched grays"...but I have not really paid any attention to others' numbers, except when they are so high as Kirk's are! It is not a race as you said and I have four started which I put down to read when others grabbed my attention. Yesterday I went back and forth between two and then picked up that Christie Capps' book just before I went to bed. It was short enough that I didn't stay up too late finishing it and thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw you read it three times. It is worth a reread.

message 165: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments No, just finished reading it for the second time. You know how GR sometimes adds an extra "read" or two unless you're careful about how you post it! I'd gone straight from finishing it the first time to starting Maria Grace's trilogy without writing a review first. Since it IS so short, I decided a re-read would be an enjoyable way to make sure my review is accurate!

message 166: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Debbie when you go to post your review you can remove the extra date... it should show up at the bottom when you post.

message 167: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Just did. Not the review but the extra read. I don't always notice when the extra gets tacked on, but I delete it as soon as I do. Got a music rehearsal soon, so I'll work on the review when I get home from that.

message 168: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Good luck with the rehearsal.

message 169: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Easy, fun stuff. Doo wop. Reviewing a bunch and starting a couple of new (for us) ones. No shows for a few weeks, so this'll be a very low-key practice. Although Memorial Day weekend we'll perform 3 times in 4 days. I'm more worried about my old hip making it through than the music!!

message 170: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments I was wondering how you were doing.

message 171: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Brand new hip on the left is GREAT! Stronger all the time, though still a little weaker than the right. I got an injection on the right in November that worked great, but now it's really painful and its range of motion is more limited than on the replaced side. Surgery to replace the right is set for July 9. Here we go again!!

message 172: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) So glad you’ve gotten to the reward stage of your surgery, Debbie! I imagine it makes it easier to face the next one. I’ll wish you an equally good outcome on the right hip now, since my back surgery is June 6 and 7 and I don’t expect to be much on the computer for the first month or so.

message 173: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments We'll need a new moniker for you... Bionic Debbie. Naw... that just doesn't work. Oh well. So glad you are better and will soon be even better for the other side.

message 174: by Debbie (last edited May 07, 2018 08:55AM) (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Abigail, believe it or not, I'm more reluctant about the right only because now I've EXPERIENCED all the pain and after-effects of the surgery. I've likened it to Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid. (My husband is fascinated by the whole survival in the wilderness thing.) Within the first day or two, the participants invariably say, "This is harder than it looks on TV!" Knowing what I'd be going through was NOT the same thing as the experience of actually going through it.

Having said that, of course I'm thrilled with the results now 8 weeks later, and of course I'll be getting the other side done. I'm just not as eager about it as I was for the first one!!

Best wishes for your back surgery, Abigail. I'm sure you've got the best doctors you could find to work on you. Will have you in my thoughts at that time, for sure.

Thanks for the good wishes, Jeanne!

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments We'll be thinking about you too Abigail... you'll be in our prayers.

Add my 'all the best' to Abigail and Debbie to the others. I would be scared out of my skull of the pain and complications and just plain old helplessness that comes with surgery, Debbie and Abigail, so I don't blame you there.

message 179: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Thank you, everyone, for your kind wishes! It’s going to be a rough go—two days of surgery, back (so to speak) to back. They say the pain is horrible at first, but “reassure” me that they have an entire team of pain management specialists. Off to join the opioid army! [Temporarily, I hope.] And I’ll be an inch taller at the end.

message 180: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Yep. Pain management will be a major element early on. Yay for being taller, though!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Got a few more to add to my stack:

116. The Last Miss Bennet: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - 4 stars

117. London Holiday - 5 stars
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

118. Lost & Found: A Pride & Prejudice Novella - 5 stars

119. An Incident at the Royal Rest Inn by leavesfallingup - 4 stars

Elizabeth Bennet and Caroline Bingley switched at birth! Loved the basic story. However, I felt that the political situation with Bretagne/Brittany needlessly confused the plot. Considering the royal British blood that's uncovered, I didn't see the point of adding the French royalty into Elizabeth's ancestry. The author obviously enjoys historical research, but it just muddied up an already very complex plot. There are also a few "okays" in there. It's unpublished, so I know it's unpolished, but that seems like too obvious a blunder not to mention. But it's a reasonable length and a whopping good tale, even if Caroline and Lydia make a rather unbelievable turnaround at the end.

120. Deception & Debauchery: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - 4 stars

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Debbie I agree about you #119... that one fell apart quickly. It had such potential I was really disappointed as I liked the basic story.
