I am on the road to Pemberley so I can join my friends in Mr. Darcy's Library. Oh how nice to finally be on my way there. This has been a difficult year and I am still not back to myself. But I will get there. A good cuppa will set up right. See you soon guys. Tell Mrs. Reynolds I am on my way.

A stack of good reads can definitely help a tough year along. Woohoo! What a lovely welcome you will receive from the Darcys. Enjoy their library, Jeanne!

Thanks Kirk for your encouragement.

Anji | 291 comments Waving a sad (but happy for you, if you know what I mean!) farewell to you Jeanne. We didn't have much time together here but it was good while it lasted! Say hi to everyone at Pemberley for me. Don't think I'll make it there myself.

message 608: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Anji, it is hard to leave friends behind, but there are also friends waiting for me. I'll send you and my other GR friends an invite so you can visit us. The only reason I managed to make it is because I was already well on my way when RL threw her punch at me. I am still staggering but I'll not go down. I am stubborn like that. Thanks for your comments. Blessings everyone!!

message 609: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 201 comments Good for you J. W. Since RL threw her punch at me she has again side swiped me twice in the last few weeks. Sometimes it really is hard to keep going. I will be so glad to see the end of 2018!!!!!

message 610: by Anji (new)

Anji | 291 comments RL is having another go at me, too. I'm on yet another course of antibiotics for my chest infection and this morning, we've been told that one of our beautiful dogs may have a tumour in his stomach.

RL sucks at times!

message 611: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 201 comments You may sing it Anji!! Hope your dog is ok. Our Irish Wolfhound has severe arthritis in his back legs. He's been having a hard time but the medication he's on now is helping him so much. Our vet said he's the oldest one he's ever seen. Six, seven at the max is their age limit. Fionn was nine last month. So we have to enjoy everyday with him now. We've been lucky to have him so long.

message 612: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Anji and Teresa... we will get through this. Hang in there. Anji... I hope you get better. Teresa, you have been able to enjoy your friend for those extra years. What a blessing he has been for you.

Blessings to you both.

I'd no idea that the life expectancy of Irish Wolfhounds was so short, Teresa. May you have him with you for a lot longer!

Our two are rescues that we've had for over nine years now. Obviously we don't know a great deal about their history but they're a Shepherd (possibly Belgian rather than German) crossed with a Lurcher type. They're father and son and about 13 and 10 respectively. It's the younger one that's not well and getting the meds into him, that the vet gave us yesterday, isn't easy! Fingers crossed it's nothing more serious than an infection but if the meds don't work, it's blood tests and X-rays.

Personally, my latest course of antibiotics seems to be doing me some good at long last, says she crossing more fingers!

Teresa | 201 comments Glad you're feeling better Anji. We're lucky with our guy, he's great to take anything. I hope you're chap gets better. It's not an easy time. Always a worry too about losing one of them and then the one that's left can sometimes find it very hard. But fingers crossed.

Update on health matters in the Dale household. My antibiotics seem to be doing the job (fingers crossed). Our dog isn't doing so well. Blood tests now indicate he's got pancreatitis, so antiobiotics and a pain killer for him, but he just won't eat. The vet says give him carbs only, but he won't touch rice, pasta or potatoes even when cooked with beef stock. The best we've been able to get into him is some pizza crust with the topping sliced off. Funny thing is that he's still more or less behaving normmally, albeit a little bit subdued. He's drinking normally, which is a relief. Hubby and I haven't been coping too well and keep getting a bit upset from time to time, as we're obviously fearing the worst.

message 616: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 201 comments Ah Anji that's tough. If he's drinking ok what about making the food into soup. It might be easier on him. Maybe chewing is too tiring for him. Our guy has been a bit off the last few days. Nothing I can put my finger on, just not right. It's a trying time isn't it!!

message 617: by Anji (last edited Sep 25, 2018 12:09AM) (new)

Anji | 291 comments Just to let you all know that I may be even more absent than usual. Bad news from the vet today about our poorly dog. Looks as though it's pancreatic cancer, which is as nasty in dogs as it can be in humans. I'll still be reading but probably not posting much very much at all, except for my YTD updates, and I may not be around the blogs much either. I've a couple of reading commitments promised and am going to try to keep up with my beta work as and when it comes in. Hubby will be taking a lot of the strain as he's retired and I've got work engagements booked but it's going to be a tough time for us all.

message 618: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 201 comments Oh Anji I'm so sorry to hear that. The poor guy. I hope it's not too hard a time on him and ye! I'll be thinking of you and will check in with you from time to time. I know how you feel. Every day now is a bonus with our guy. He hasn't been great the last few days. Sleeping all the time. Fingers crossed Anji.

Anji, thanks for letting us know. I'm so sorry. I've sent up prayers that your dog can be as comfortable as possible and that you and your husband will be able to comfort each other and have the patience and strength to lavish love on your dog.

No summaries or forward planning. The spanner that RL has thrown into our lives is still very much there. It's almost certain that our dog has pancreatic cancer. The only way to tell for sure is either biopsy or surgery and both have major risks. He's still very much himself; alert, interested in what's going on around him and in no pain or other distress. It's just watch and wait. Not easy.

I'll pop in here from time to time and read what you've all been up to, but doubt I'll be posting here or on the blogs much. I'll be following the Rational Creatures tour but that's all. Have a good month everyone.

Anji | 291 comments Thanks for all the kind thoughts, my friends. Sadly, our beautiful boy Roddy passed away yesterday. Those of you here who are FB friends will see the photos I've posted. He's at peace now and buried in the garden under one of our apple trees. It's 7am here now and one of the things he used to do around this time of day was bound up the stairs and often jump on our bed asking to be let out. When a dog of his size jumps on your bed, you know it!

We still have his dad Rodeo, though. Never expected the younger one to go first. It's all been so quick and brutal, especially for him, less than a month from start to finish.

It's going to take a while to get back to normal activity online as the enthusiasm just isn't there right now. Also, just to complicate matters, we've got more relatives from Australia staying. Rather a gloomy start to their holiday for them.

I'll be back, properly, when I'm up to it.

message 635: by Anji (new)

Anji | 291 comments Many thanks once again, my dear friends. The support we've had from friends and family all over the world has been, and remains, a great comfort to us. I think Roddy's dad, Rodeo, is coping with it all a lot better than the human part of the family. We were worried that he would pine for Roddy but he doesn't seem to be so far, thank goodness. We've both been knocked for six by how devastated we are by Roddy's passing.

On a happier front, I'm starting to take more notice of what's going on in the Austenesque world, but it's going to take a while to get back to normal. I can add a couple more to my list:

110. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Traitor: A Pride & Prejudice Variation by Jennifer Joy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's been a hell of a month. I think what reading I've done has helped keep me sane. Life seems to be settling down a bit. Trying to get used to being a one dog family. We still keep saying plural words (dogs, boys, lads etc) from time to time.

J W tough time coming up. My mam has been gone six months now and if I remember rightly your Dad wasn't too long after. Going to try and enjoy the holiday because Mam loved Christmas and wouldn't want anyone to be sad at that time.

Thinking about you and your guy, Teresa. Hoping it's just a temporary thing for him. Our other boy seems fine, thank goodness. We feared he'd pine for the one we lost as they'd never been apart for more than a day or two in nine years. We haven't felt able to leave him on his own at home yet but we're going to have to at some point eventually. Sending hugs to you, too 💖💖💖

My current audiobook is Mr. Darcy's Journey: A Pride & Prejudice Variation by Abigail Reynolds and I'm not far off the end of that now. I was looking through my Audible library, trying to decide what to listen to next, when I discovered I had the audio version of Christmas Cheer from the Holidays with Jane series - job done! I've just finished reading Darcy's Voyage by Kara Louise and next up for reading is my Someone Pick It choice Pride & Prejudice & Assassinations by Leo Charles Taylor. After that, it'll be something seasonal, if I get the chance. Maybe Yuletide: A Jane Austen-inspired Collection Of Stories from The Quill Collective; or maybe I'll read that first, as it's somewhat shorter.
