I believe Janice said yes to this, Dominique. I remember reading about it, anyway.

Just to make sure, Dominique, the question was asked in message 667 and the answer was given in message 669, in this thread.

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I was probably not politically correct in stating "Native American" instead of "First Nation".

message 906: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments So far I have read 18 books in 2018, and I manage to fit 13 in this challenge. I'm pretty happy about that.

message 907: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4549 comments I don't think this has been ask (I went through the entire thread) but if I missed something ( I got a bit distracted with the "truck" discussion), I apologize.

For Cancer - Crab, can the word be a possessive? I'm reading King's Cage just because and then realized it had "King" in the title. Can I, can I?

message 908: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Same here Sandra, 14 out of 18 fit the zodiac challenge.

message 909: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4549 comments I have another question.

Taurus - Jasper (illness as a major theme): Would Lock In qualify? From what I've read so far and from the blurb about the book, Haden's syndrome, plays a constant presence throughout the story.

Roz - the question about possessives was asked in message 57 and answered in message 64. Yes, the possessive is okay.

Haden's syndrome was caused by a mutated virus, which is an illness, so, I believe it is okay. I am looking forward to reading/listening to the 2nd book!

message 912: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4549 comments That makes me very happy!

message 913: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments You're good on both books, Roz.

message 915: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments No, sorry. Mayans are Central American. Native Americans are strictly from the US and Canada.

Thanks Janice. I forgot that part.

siriusedward (elenaraphael) | 887 comments Janice, can a collection of short stories with more than 175p be used for the challenge?
The Snow Walker The Snow Walker by Farley Mowat

siriusedward (elenaraphael) | 887 comments and this is white enough isn't it.?
Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki

message 919: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments It looks very white to me, Siriusedward.

message 920: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments siriusedward wrote: "and this is white enough isn't it.?

I almost didn't see it as it blends in so well with the GR white background so I'd say you're good to go on that one.

message 921: by siriusedward (new)

siriusedward (elenaraphael) | 887 comments Thanks Sarah and Sandra...I just wondered about the grey.

message 922: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments It's only a tiny bit and it only has to be 70% white.

message 923: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Yes to both questions, Elena. Short story anthologies are acceptable, and looks white to me. :)

I finally looked and I have read 71 books and used 39 for my challenge.

message 925: by Lisette (last edited May 15, 2018 11:40PM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas
Would this book Long May She Reign (bottle on cover) be accepted for Aquarius Symbol: Water bearer
Task: Read a book that has an urn, jug, or other vessel used for holding water. (Glasses, cups, mugs are accepted)

message 926: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) Does "Dystpoia" on the main page count for the "Dystopian" book?
task: Superhero: Copycat
Read a book from the dystopian genre, or set in the future. The word “Dystopian” needs to be listed as a genre on the main book page.

message 927: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Yes to both, Lusie.

Dystopia is a noun. Dystopian is the adjective for that noun. Any book that lists "dystopia" on the genre is dystopian.

message 928: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) Thank you!

It certainly does. :)

Thanks Camilla - I'm beginning to realize I'm color blind! 😂

message 933: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments It looks black to me, and when I used Tineye, it said 63.5% "Black rock" (blue). I'd give that a benefit of a doubt and call it black, but it's not enough. Too bad the white title is so big. Sorry Lilisa.

message 934: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments No worries Janice - thx for checking. If anyone is looking for a book set in the Pacific Northwest, Stray City fits - it’s set in Portland, Oregon.

That's interesting Janice, since the percentages I listed were from Tineye. But this isn't the first time I see different percentages and colors when different persons run the same cover through Tineye. Wonder why that happens.

message 936: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I don't know if this is the answer, but sometime colours show differently on different computers, or through different browsers.

message 937: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2112 comments Yes, it must be something like that.

message 939: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Yes, it will work.

message 940: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Janice, a question for when you get back.

When I gophered, I put Ready Player One down for the stand alone SF task. It was a stand alone then, but now it says on the book page that it's part of a series. However, the second book in the series appears to be nowhere near being published. Would it still qualify for the task?

message 941: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I think this question came up about The Host. I can't remember the answer now. I think though because it's an intended series it wasn't allowed but i could be wrong. I can't remember whose thread it was this came up in now.

message 942: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Check out msg 32 in Lanelle's thread. I knew it was discussed somewhere.

message 943: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks Sarah! I should have read it a few months ago..

Luckily I have some other books for tasks in that zodiac sign (just not the SF task), so it's not the end of the world.

message 944: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Have you read The Martian Peggy? That would be a good one for that task.

message 945: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments No, I haven't. To be honest I'm not very interested in SF, but I wanted to know what the fuss about Ready Player One was about and it was shelved as SF, so I slotted it in. I can't do more than Badge 2 anyway and I have some other books for other tasks, so I'll just focus on those :)

message 946: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Have you read Flowers for Algernon Peggy? It is completely earth based and I think you might like it! You've probably read it though 😉

message 947: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments I agree with Sarah and Margo. I loved both, The Martian and Flowers for Algernon, and I am not a science fiction reader myself. There is much more in both books. They are different, though. While TM is very humorous, FFA is touching and thought provoking. I think you would like any of them, Peggy, if you decided to go with the task.

message 948: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Haven't read that one either. Just the mention of SF somewhere puts me off ;-)

But you convinced me, I'll pencil them in for the task just in case I decide to read something different from my usual books.

message 949: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments I'm not a science fiction fan either, but now I'm going to have to give The Martian a shot - I know I've seen it around the house somewhere or maybe even Flowers for Algernon...

message 950: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19316 comments If either of you decide to go with The Martian, I do not recommend the audio. There is a lot of math in the story, which I found boring and it pulled me out of the story. Unfortunately, you can't skim those parts with the audio. I wasn't a fan.
