Jeez... I hadn't read it yet... It's horrible. You read the quotes and think it can't get worse, and then the poem comes. And you think that is the lowest low, and then the last quote about "expanding moisture blossom".

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Yeah... the comment that it all seems like a random postmodern lit generator seems be the most plausible explanation. I really hope that's not what is within people's brains. How would you deal with all the alliteration all the time?

message 853: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I like a bit of aliteration in titles. At a workshop i went to recently i was given a name badge with Super Sarah on it. I liked that. But not a whole book of it. Urgh.

message 854: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments So far it has only a 2.85 stars rating in GR. I would hate if it rated over 4 just because he is Sean Penn.
Some reviewers are funny. "The author never found an adjective or descriptive phrase that he didn't like", or "it sounds like an AI bot trying to use language by stringing together random words from a thesaurus out of context".

And a bowl on the side table. Yes, it will work.

According to tineye, it's only 50% black, and you need 75%.

Eliestal | 255 comments A have a question regarding the Maiden (Virgo) task: protagonist is an unmarried women under 20.

If the book follows a group of adventurer (D&D style), can I use it for the task if at least one member of the group validate the criteria?

Plus, if the genre is fantasy, since Humanity is not the only species in those, does the protagonist need to be human to fit the prerequisites?

Thanks! (or sorry if the questions had already been asked)

As long as the character plays an important role, you may use it. She doesn't need to be human, but she should be humanoid and have similar social structure.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

message 867: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Apr 13, 2018 03:48AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments Aditi, I used tineye to "test" your cover, and it says it is 79.3% green, and no blue. Here is how you see the result:

http://labs.tineye.com/color/31f97793...

We don't use tineye always, just when we are not sure about the color. I happened to me a few days back. My red cover happened to be orange. But I haven't test my white and black covers, for they really look very white and balck.

message 868: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Would this Storm Front cover be considered to have "a significant amount of water"? It's a little hard to tell with the cover so small but the bottom half of the cover is a lakehouse and a lake. If not, how about "a significant amount of clouds"?
Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher

message 869: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments That's a tough one. It's quite dark even when enlarged. It would be perfect for the Monthly Challenge, but if you already have a book for that challenge, I'll accept it for water but not for clouds. You can't actually see any clouds. Yes, there is lightning and the clouds are implied, but you can't see them.

message 870: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Water works for me! I have another book planned for clouds anyway :) Thanks!

Read a book set near or on a lake or river, OR the words Lake or River are in the title. If going for title or author, the words must be exact.

Does Haroun and the Sea of Stories work? It has 'sea' in title and is mostly set on the sea.

It's neither lake nor river but I thought I would try my luck. :p

Read a book that is shelved as Scandinavian Literature using this genre page as a tool: https://www.goodreads.com/genres/scan....

After You is mentioned on this page but I am not sure if it fits and how.

You only have half the link, Pragya. You're looking at "Popular Scan Books", not "Popular Scandinavian Literature Books"

Head back to the original challenge thread for the whole link. Or go to this https://www.goodreads.com/genres/scan...

Thank you so much, Rusalka. I was scratching my head because I read A Man Called Ove for last month's challenge because I remember it fitting in this one as well. And now I wasn't able to find it. Duh! Thanks a bunch!

I know! So very confused.

message 885: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments So, tin eye says this isn't red - Firestarter by Stephen King or at least not red enough. Could've sworn it would be fine. It's pretty red. I'll have to use it for another task.

message 886: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think that's similar to my issue with The Daylight War, Sarah. It screamed blue but tineye said it was not enough.

Janice ruled in favour of that one, so you might be lucky too. And don't use tineye anymore when your book screams a certain colour ;-)

message 887: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Apr 20, 2018 11:25AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments Same thing happened to me with The Handmaid's Tale
This is my library's copy: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood but not enough red according to tineye. I have many other options, though. I am not checking them on tineye just in case. ;)

message 888: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's good advice Peggy! I'll probably just use it for capricorn film star as i haven't covered that star sign yet.

message 889: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments They both scream red to me - Firestarter and Handmaid's Tale. You only need to use tineye if it's ambiguous.

message 890: by Amanda (Mandy) (last edited Apr 24, 2018 01:12PM) (new)

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments I need a ruling on a book. Will this work for white cover? I ran it through tineye, which said it is 54 % Titan White (Violet). I am not sure if that counts or not.

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews

Nevermind, I just reread the directions and it says it has to be 70% white. Oh well!

message 891: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Just looking at it without Tineye, I'd say that it's not white enough.

Camilla | 2112 comments Jannene wrote: "Is this enough red? The Daylight War (Demon Cycle, #3) by Peter V. Brett It looks like it is 70% or more."

54.1% red according to tineye.

message 894: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I thought there was a lot of black in the cover and tineye confirmed that - 35%. Plus there are other colours in it which lowers the amount of red. Sorry.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Jannene - you can use it for the magic task, if you haven't done that one yet.

Jannene | 3124 comments Cherie wrote: "Jannene - you can use it for the magic task, if you haven't done that one yet."

I must have because I can’t find it. I will just go with my original thought to use The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye (Millennium, #5) by David Lagercrantz .

message 897: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments It's Aquarius, Stone (Turquoise). You haven't filled that book yet, Jannene. You will need to claim it in Badge 3.

message 898: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Janice - does the face in the profile for Gemini, Stone-Agate have to be a person? How about a horse? As in Brimstone Brimstone (Virgil Cole & Everett Hitch, #3) by Robert B. Parker ?

message 899: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I think that question was asked before and the ruling was that it had to be a person.

message 900: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Thanks, Janice. I scrolled through, but I must have missed it. I will push Doc off of my challenge and use Brimstone for the western task then. It is on the list. I have people faces on a couple of books. Must be time for me to read a romance.
