Yes.

message 804: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Hi Janice,

for cancer STONE: rose quartz: Read a book with a rose(s) on the cover, or the cover is 75% pink in colour.

I am failing to come up with anything that passes the TinEye test.

Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill Secrets by Freya North Tilt-a-Whirl (John Ceepak Mystery, #1) by Chris Grabenstein

were the 3 options I had found and Secrets comes closest at a little over 50%. I have searched my library and the local library website and I'm coming up with nothing. It seems a little pink goes a long way lol

My question is does the book for this task need to pass the TinEye test?

message 805: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The left one doesn't seem very pink to me, but the other two scream pink!

Tineye sometimes gives colour names that are actually forms of one colour, and if you add them all, it's more than 70%. Could that be the case?

message 806: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh! And you have to check the box that says 'include background'. The default is uncheckef.

message 807: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19316 comments I thought tineye was the test for if you weren't sure if it was enough. So, if you look at it and it screams pink (or blue or red...) then it works, if you're not sure if it's enough, go to tineye.

The middle one does scream "pink" at me!!

The one on the right is actually comes up as violet. I thought the background on the leftmost one was pale pink but it's actually beige.

Thanks for the tip about checking the include background box Peggy - I will try that out tomorrow ☺

I agree with Kristie. I think it's if it doesn't scream pink to you, check it out. Like Peggy, to me the two on the right scream it.

I think tinyeye is like Lexx. I have infuriating conversations with him. That book cover you mention is obviously pink. However, Lexx and tineye will say it's violet, as there is probably a hint of blue in there. Ie. It probably is not a pure pink on the RGB scale, with like an amount of say 5 blue. Therefore, technically, correctly, factually, it is violet.

Lexx has a navy blue jumper. It's blue. He calls it his purple jumper. It's not purple. But as he thinks there is a speckling of red in the blue, it is purple, technically, correctly, factually. Bloody Graphic Designers.

Rus, you have me laughing out loud reading my iPad.

message 811: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11295 comments My husband is color blind, so don't get me started on color discussions...

message 812: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I agree with all the comments above. Those covers scream pink to me.

Some of the covers on tineye said Cherise (red). Wikipedia says cherise is a reddish pink.

I think we should use tineye when we're not sure if there's enough colour on the page like the one on the left. There's a profile taking space and the title takes a large amount of space, so is there enough of the background to say it's 75%,

Colour is relative to the eye of the beholder (and Sandra's husband apparently). I personally don't like pastel pink and if someone says, "Oh, I love your pink top!", I'll bark back, "That's not pink. That's salmon (, or dusty rose, or fuchsia). "

message 813: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Ha ha Janice, I'm not a pink person either!

Sensible advice from all - except of course the husbands lol I'll go with either Secrets or Tilt-a-Whirl as they're both screaming pink 😉

Thanks all

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments You won't believe it. I started telling him about this conversation, and before I told him what i wrote about him, he wanted to see the book cover. He's like "That's pretty bloody pink. ... oh hang on... actually I think there is a touch of blue in it."

ARGH!! He's pissing himself laughing now too.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Hi Janice:

Please excuse me if you noted this elsewhere. Would you accept Spider Kiss by Harlan Ellison or Is Sex Necessary? or Why You Feel the Way You Do by James Thurber as being red enough for the following task?

Aries – Fire
Read a book where 70% of the cover is red.

Thanks!

Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry I've not been around. Life's been very stressful and crazy for quite some time. Hugs all around to my YLTO buddies!

message 819: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I just realized Spider Kiss by Harlan Ellison would work for:

Leo – Fire
Read a book with a significant amount of fire on the cover.

Then perhaps I can use Is Sex Necessary? or Why You Feel the Way You Do by James Thurber for red?

message 820: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments And another question regarding:
Libra – Air
Read a book with a significant amount of clouds on the cover.

Enough clouds? Gwendy's Button Box by Stephen King

message 821: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Yes, to the red.

While Grendy's Button Box has enough clouds, it's a kindle edition. Rules for page length on an ebook are that you use the hardcover edition. The hardcover edition is 171 pages, so too short to qualify.

message 822: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Thanks Janice! Have a great weekend!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Just came to ask a question about cars/trucks again, and then realised it was a house on the cover, not a vehicle.

Lucky, Janice. Lucky.

message 827: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments lol. I think we can all agree what a house is. ;-)

Except me apparently, thinking it was a car for a bit. In my defense:

Nemesis (Harry Hole, #4) by Jo Nesbø

Look, it's like one headlight is out (that was edited as I had to look again).

Also I thought it fit the villain task, until I realised it had to be the EXACT word villain.

I wouldn't throw Rusalka that kind of challenge...
thinks treehouses, caves, houseboats (!?!)

message 832: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments I've dodged the bullet on having to rule on that one. Phew! Some people live in their trucks. At least around here, some do. We apparently have a different truck culture.

message 833: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments From a distance, I'd have assumed a car too.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Also, did you guys see this? "Sean Penn The Novelist Must Be Stopped": https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/ent...

I'm not sure we should be supporting Sean Penn anymore with this challenge, for crimes against literature. Just read those quotes!!

I read one out, and Lexx kept on laughing and interrupting, so I yelled "Let me finish my sentence!!" and him going "You've been talking for 2 mins straight!!" "But it's not finished! There's more alliteration!!"

message 843: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments At least you don't need to read the novel for the challenge. You're spared on two points. He didn't act in the movie, and it's only 160 pages long.

Lol good point!
Also, I completely understand Janice, that although your other personality is Madame Tutti Frutti, you couldn't have foreseen this abomination.

Really?? the Publisher just saw Sean Penn and said yes without reading this. In my eyes he lost a lot of of credibility over the years, The last movie I watch with him in it was Mystic River which I chose for the challenge, At least it's not him who wrote the book.

message 846: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments These last few posts have made me laugh.

message 847: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments True. At the time, I was focused on actors who had a large body of work (in movies) that would present great reading opportunities. We'll have to separate the sin from the books. Think Mystic River, Dead Man Walking....
