Ellen | 3526 comments I would love to spend the afternoon with a big cup of coffee and a friend like Annie Spence. She is a librarian with such a love for books that she has written letters to them, both praising and criticizing those she has come across in her life. We could spend hours discussing why we love or hate certain tomes but I would have to take exception to her obsessive love for Jeffrey Eugenides and his "Virgin Suicides" (the only book of his that I have read and it showed me quickly that Jeff and I were not destined for a relationship). I understand her sadness at seeing books that are falling apart with no hope of salvaging them especially when they are ones that are out of print or the beloved cover art has been replaced. Weeding books at her library leads to hours of browsing and sometimes wondering why some books were ever purchased for their collection. Yep, been there. This is a fun little book with surprising insights, lots of humor and even some book lists that have some intriguing titles. Be aware, however, that Annie Spence is passionate and that leads to, let's just say, 'colorful' language liberally sprinkled throughout the book.

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I thought this was super fun also!

She convinced me to add Virgin Suicides to my TBR, haha.

Ellen | 3526 comments Good luck with that, Joi! I sincerely hope you like it much more than I did.
