SOLVED. Regency romance book. [s]

I'm searching for a book I've read, but can't remember the title or author. It is a regency about a girl who has returned to England from the US. She comes upon a robbery victim who has been shot. The victim is Brummel, but he says his name is George and uses a false last name. She had been sent to family in the US after being involved in a shooting when she was a young girl.

Maybe one of the Beau Brummel mysteries by Rosemary Stevens? I've only read the first one, which I don't think was the plot you describe, but there are three others.

Julie Garwood's Rebellious Desire has the heroine calling Brummell "George".

Though it's not evident from the description, I think Janet's suggestion Rebellious Desire by Julie Garwood might be your book. One reviewer says: "Caroline Richmond killed a man at 4 years old. She doesn't remember but for her safety her father sent her to live with his brother in Boston." and another: "At 18, her father summons her back to England. An accomplished shot, she saves Beau Brummell from ruffians."
