A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle - Restarting September 18th 2018

It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.

"Wild nights are my glory," the unearthly stranger told them. "I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me be on my way. Speaking of way, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract".

Meg's father had been experimenting with this fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now the time has come for Meg, her friend Calvin, and Charles Wallace to rescue him. But can they outwit the forces of evil they will encounter on their heart-stopping journey through space?

Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[At first glance I kind of feel bad for Meg because of what is happening to her at school. Also, the whole not knowing where your dad is or when he is eventually going to come back is oddly terrifying. I don't know how I could ever live like that. And now that she was making some hot cocoa - I want to go and make a cup of hot cocoa. I wonder what else is going to happen - I'm super excited for the rest of this book because I really want to read this book before the movie comes out! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[Uhm, after that is it weird that I'm a huge fan of Calvin?!? Other than that, I can totally see how hard it is to accept not knowing everything because I honestly don't know everything but for Meg who is still trying to figure out how everything works and such - I can totally see this has a big challenge point for her. I wonder if she will ever fully accept it. I'm also super excited for this adventure to go and save her dad! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7: (view spoiler)[Oh my god, the guy with the red eyes is so cool. And creepy, very very creepy! I don't even know how Meg and Calvin just sat there and watched the whole Charles thing play out. And now he isn't himself anymore which is making me freak out a whole bunch. I just want everyone back to normal and I want them to find their dad so badly. This place gives me the creeps. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 10: (view spoiler)[What the hell is happening in this place?!? It's beyond creepy but I'm so sucked into this book that I don't even mind right now. It's completely interesting and I haven't been able to put down the book once. So a lot has happened - they kids found Mr. Murray but Charles is still not himself and they had to leave him. Meg was injured but she's slowly starting to heal. I feel like I haven't mentioned it but I really like Calvin's character and I like how he is on this journey with Meg. Shipping them together - even if it never comes true. I'm also imagining the look on Meg's moms face when she sees her husband again! (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[WOW! This was so freaking good! And I'm pretty sure I'm still one hundred percent confused as shit too. I love how Meg is better and then she had to face one part of the adventure by herself. She was the only one who could go save her brother Charles from IT. Why? Because she was the closest to him and she could provide Charles with the one thing that IT didn't have: love. It was a very sweet ending with everyone united and happy again. I'm really glad that I read this book and I seriously can't wait to see the movie now! (hide spoiler)]

Just finished. I really enjoyed this one. (view spoiler)[The enx was a little abrupt though. And although love being what saved Charles Wallace was expected, it also worked. It made sense that they, as humans, would have this while IT did not. It also made sense that it needed to be Meg. (hide spoiler)]

Considering the fact that this was written in 1962, I really love how progressive the main character is; she's willing to get into physical fights to defend the honour of her family and isn't worried about being "prim and proper". I mean, yes, there is still definite stigma present in this book (such as Meg's younger brothers saying "“Let us do the fighting"), but it's definitely not written as though there is a "woman's place" and "man's place" in the world at large.

This is a very insightful book. I know it's a classic, and that it must've earned that title somehow... but so far it's exceeding all my expectations.

And everyone says she's so rude/belligerent etc but she really doesn't seem that bad. I love Charles Wallace, I love how different he is and how he cares for Meg and his mother. I hope they find their dad soon. I feel like Calvin hasn't had an original idea in this mission he only agrees with Charles so far. Poor Meg, trying to save Charles I think she will eventually. Ch 1-3 - has anyone else read The Little Prince? This reminds me of it, although the plot is nothing alike, there's this whimsical air about the writing and these subtle little life lessons all around.

Right?! Odd...I also thought books will have the same description on GR, regardless of edition. Guess not.
