“Changing human culture, through fiction, to embrace women as equals.”
Would you like to be involved in “The Silphium Effect” (previously known as “Project Valkyrie”)?
Our goal is to created a shared alternate universe where one “simple,” “little” change was made, at the founding of Rome: Women could control their pregnancies. We feel this “small” change would have a widespread domino impact across society, resulting in egalitarianism.
Some of the elements that need to be worked out are things like addressing the likely dramatic decrease in the childbirth rate, how other societies react (China will be our “control”) and, of course, what it means to a society where women have equal opportunities in all things.
We’re looking for people interested in fleshing out the concepts and consequences, but also interested in people who would like to write stories in this world. They need not be historical, we view the change in society as so fundamental that it verges on science fiction. Indeed, as we envision it, most likely the industrial revolution would happen much sooner, as would medicine.
Our goal with the fiction is to portray shared events, characters, places, societies, etc. in our alternative universe through contributor’s short stories, novelettes, novellas, novels, screenplays, etc. in such a way that readers/viewers can be entertained, while at the same time, encouraged toward egalitarianism.
We’re also looking for non-fiction input as well, and would like to have historians, feminists and academic-oriented (as well as anyone else who would like to contribute) to validate our assumptions and suggest areas we might have missed.
If you’re interested in learning more, either to be a participant or simply an observer, PM me and I’ll send you a link with a lot more information, as well as a link where you can contribute.
