Book & Author Page Issues > CAN I REPLACE COVERS WITH GENERIC BOOK COVER?

Andrea Smith | 120 comments I'm retiring both the Baby Lite and Baby Series from future sales in both e-books and paperbacks effective 7-11. My question is raised because I'd like to "unclutter" my author's dashboard by merging both series as one, and then replacing the current covers with simply the generic GR book cover if I can't totally remove them from my author's dashboard. I'm not sure of the rules, so can someone please advise?
Thanks!

Empress (the_empress) One question: Is this an omnibus or a box set? Because I couldn't find any such information. If not are you planning on creating one?

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments GR Policy is to never remove published books, published covers, or to "unclutter" by removing books that are no longer in print. So no, you can't do that, sorry. At best you can choose which version of the cover is the default one.

Please don't change the titles either (you can put a note in the description, but don't change the titles again), or combine multiple books into one if they aren't actually the same book.

Actually, there was never a Omnibus published. It didn't happen. So I wanted to simply remove that one, and then for the individual books in the series: Maybe Baby, Baby Love, Be My Baby and Baby Come Back remove the covers indicating they are officially out of print.

So they are the same book, i.e., Maybe Baby is the SAME as Maybe Baby Lite, etc. I know it's confusing which is one of the reason I'm retiring them.

But can you find those "omnibuses" published and being sold anywhere?

No, the Omnibus never happened - it was never created or published.

In this case those editions should not exist. We don't create book pages for series, since the series page covers all the info. If you are going to do an omnibus we might merge them into it, otherwise I am gonna post them for deletion and the supers will decide what actions to take.

For the individual books, I think you can mention they are out of print in the description but they will not be deleted or the covers removed. What we do is we create alternate cover editions (mentioning that and including the ASIN/ISBN in a librarian not). When those are created you can choose them to be the default edition (the one that will come up when searching).

We can do that for you if you can provide (link to) the covers.

she has two series, Baby and Baby Lite. With apparently the same books (one series is a subset of the other?) so they should never have been separated in the first place.

I don't know anything about the omnibusses, but whether they exist or not, the existing standalone copies of the books should definitely NOT be combined into those - But since they weren't published anyway, they should probably be removed.

Andrea: No, we do not remove covers, ever (and if peopple do, that is not allowed, and will be reverted when it's discovered). People shelve the books they read, and often go to a lot of trouble to make sure they have the correct covers on their shelves, so we keep all the covers.

So let me see if I have this straight:
1. The books with identical titles in the Baby and Baby Lite series, are in fact identical books?
2. All of them are going out of print?
3. There have never been published omnibus editions?

She has confirmed they don't exist as an actual edition, I've posted them to be sorted out by a super (deleted or merged).

In this case we will combine the corresponding editions, and delete one of the series, which one would you prefer to stay (or what name should the series have)?

After that you can choose default edition for each book by following these instructions: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...

Please when adding information that book is out of print don't remove the whole description.

Also, is the lite series abridged? I see a page difference.

Andrea Smith | 120 comments Yes - the Lite series contained the exact same story, plot, characters, etc - it was simply condensed down to fewer pages by removing some unnecessary descriptions, condensing dialogue and, changing font sizes, etc. So I guess I would say that the remaining series should carry the Baby Series titles, not "Lite".

Since both series are the same, I deleted the Lite one. Looks like the combining of books is already done.

To clarify, these editions never actually existed as such? https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

Yes, Rivka. That is correct.

Ok, working on merging them into the first book of the series.

Andrea Smith | 120 comments Thanks so much, Rivka.
