I'm not Siobhan and I can't say why the book is splitted at this point, but I'm listenig to the german audiobooks to make better progress and there are also 2 Books for Way of Kings. Book Two starts in the middle of Part 3 at Chapter 37, so the first one is a little longer :)
And I also love the additional drawings and articles, my favourite so far is the drawimg of the skyeels.

I'm wondering wether Shallans old Soulcaster (the broken one from her father) is actually broken and doesn't work. Isn't it possible that she just don't know how? And that the strange guy, who used it for her father lied to her about the Souldcaster being broken? And what was happening with her in this chapter?
I can't believe that her trick, with hurting herself will work. If there is so much blood wouldn't she be dead already if she lost that much blood? And the cut she made must be very deep to look realistic... (hide spoiler)]

I really pity the man sometimes, he is trying so hard and no one is afraid of him. he is trying to be peaceful and everyone wants Blackthorn instead. (hide spoiler)]

I loved the illustrations Zaara. So pretty and really helped me picture some of the strange creatures! Like Axehounds!

I can't remember what chapter number part one ended at, I'll check my book when I get a chance.
And Sanderson basically says, that it would seem obvious to split the book at the end of part 2 or 3, but he didn't think the end of the parts gave a satisfactory ending. So he chose to end it after two chapters that were the culmination of storylines for the characters. It felt like something had come to a head you know. I'll check which ones it was. :)

I enjoy Jasnah and Navani, and to a lesser extent Shallan, because they are smart confident women who use their talents and education to break from their given molds; they fight for what they decide is important. They feel real. Many fantasy heroines are absurd. Sensible women who in two hundred pages are suddenly sultry warriors with no training, heaps of luck, moral outrage and a pout. The stories where the heroine is described as plucky.
Just try calling Jasnah plucky...

I wouldn’t.
Szeth I love reading about because he is a genuine badass. That combined with a shocking adherence to cultural norms well outside his home land (view spoiler)[unless it’s a magical curse (hide spoiler)]make him highly readable.
Then there’s Wit, or Hoid, who is funny, sarcastic, irreverent, and keenly intelligent.

I always feel he knows the end of the story already and is just trying to scoot it along a little differently this time. Like the whole thing is The Dark Tower Cycle and he’s leading Roland to the horn.

I suppose I'm too attached to Kaladin's POV that I don't know if I will enjoy the next book from someone else's POV. The length and the depth of the book convinces me that theres more about others too but I'm more curious how Kaladin will evolve.

Now, please don't hate me people but... My least favorite POV is Dalinar :p I remember being annoyed by his... righteousness.

My favorite is Shallan. Jasnah and her are such strong women in their own ways. Jasnah is my role model :o
I remember a particular scene (thugs attacking her in a street) where Jasnah adresses the topic of victim blaming and shows Shallan how her reactions are warped by social conventions.

@Zaara: note the little problem Shallan seems to have with her memories... Remind you of someone? Understand why I love her POV so much now? ;) ;) ;)

About the racism in this book... I was shocked about the casualness of it when I read the book. Also, I would be so fucked in this world because I'm a woman and:
- left-handed
- hate sweet food (except chocolate :p)
- have dark eyes
- can't do anything artistic to save my life
The only good aspect is that women get the reading :D

Re Shallan...she is popular. Imam wondering whether she is popular bcuz of her wit or inspite of it. I have taken a vehement dislike to Kabsal...I dunno why but I suspect the poor guy of something...prolly just that I'm hankering for a bad guy in this book...none has appeared yet. Gaz I just feel sorry for and Sadeas, I kinda like despite his enimity with Dal.

Also I'ld like to mention that I too (like many) loved Kaladin's POV more than others and heard that 2nd book focuses on Shallan and 3rd on Dalinar, it kinda makes me feel sad, why can't we have more Kaladin backstory!? Whatever maybe after 2nd book I might love Shallan more who knows? If they contain Jasnah as much as 1st book it's not a low possibility. (Jasnah is my girl dawg)

I generally hate gloomy parts of books, Now I'm getting used to them, so I am not surpised you like exactly those parts of Dalinar's POV :-)

I will admit I didn't see why Dalinar was there as a hero(view spoiler)[until the end of war. His visions were vague as f and his righteous character didn't seem colorful but when he honored the deal with Kaladin; I said I like this guy now. Righteousness is actually not boring.
+I like Kvothe. Though I know his character is a little suffocating, I still appreciate when we watch the evolvement of the characters.
I said the same in Malice for Corban and Nathair to. The books may appear slow-paced and boring (sometimes suffocating in Kvothe's case), but I like to know why this character is shaped this way. Even for the baddest characters, they can't be born plain evil something must have changed them. And I like it when that reason is convincing.
Off topic again but when I first read Young Elites, I couldn't shut my mouth about it. Because I actually believed the protagonist had every right to turn evil and punish the seemingly good guys.

Anyways back to topic, I like Kaladin for this reason, because he is not magically becoming a radiant knight because he suddenly gained these powers. He's trying to understand it and he fears it. (hide spoiler)]

When I was totally new to the genre...I loved Kvothe a lot but my feelings had more to do with the language and HIS love for music + the BR experience with Polo and Ab and lots of ppl than in any other inherent merits in the novel or its creator....so by the time I found my way here, my inclinations had watered down a lot. I still love Rothfuss, Beste, just like you. But my love it is an exasperated kind of love...a "what have you done, boy?" thing...bcuz I can't help feeling he has dug himself into a big hole with the Book 3...there's too much to say, too much plot left to cover and its too late in coming. What could have been is dying. And even if he does publish Doors of Stone now will it not be too little, too late? What do you think?

@Zaara: watching Bridge Four to became from scratch to what they're at the end of Book 1 was an amazing experience. with every little victory that they had, be it in terms of standing up to Gaz, or fooling him into chasm duty is a punishment, or caring for their wounded, or simply regaining their faith... it was mind-blowing... those guys gave me goosebumps..

SADEAS......bcuz this...this....*brings some seriously dirty oaths* betraying...stealing...SON OF UNMARRIED PAREMTS....
...the only thing I like about SADEAS is its easy to hiss a word with so many Ssssssss in it....
Otherwise....I want that Sadeas should trip on a rockbud, bang his lights out on the inside of his own Shardplate + choke on his own blood.
Preferably IMPALING Amaram on his ill-gotten Shardblade in the meanwhile....

This beautiful Dalinar is gonna die, isnt he? He gave away the blade and plate and now Szeth is coming...and I liked Navani best of all the 3 women (that scene with the glyph painting!) and now she will have her heart broken again...

Even that Sadeas have the sword now, I believe it was Sanderson's pissing us off. Maybe the name of the book suggests that Oathbringer should return to the Dalinar? Or maybe because the book should mention someones backstory and Dalinar used to have Oathbringer... Ha? I think its plausible :) (hide spoiler)]
