Joan Barnett | 1972 comments - What are you reading for this category? All Systems Red
- Why did you choose this book? I chose this one because it is also a book on the 2017 Goodreads choice awards which I also do a challenge for.
- Are you interested in science? I have more science fiction on my list this year than I normally would. I do like reading science fiction and have noted more books to read for it. Science itself was my worst subject. If I read nonfiction about science it is somewhat hard for me to keep up.

Rokkan (rokk) | 96 comments I read The Obelisk Gate for this one. Some nice post-apocalyptic sci-fi going on, and it fit into a bunch of other challenges I'm doing. I'm not big into science, but I love me some sci-fi/fantasy, so this one was always going to be a breeze for me.

Sarah | 539 comments What are you reading for this category?
Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation by Bill Nye

Why did you choose this book?
Because it's Bill Nye and he reads the book if you listen to the audio version of it like I did. I love his show and wanted to see if I liked his books too.

Are you interested in science?
The two Bill Nye books I read this year have peaked my interest so I might try and add some more science books to my TBR list.

message 54: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I read Journey to the Center of the Earth

Why did you choose this book?
I have not ever read any Verne before and thought that was a gap in my reading education. He was remarkable for his anticipation of true scientific discoveries. Sorry to say just not my taste.

Are you interested in Science?
I can certainly see the importance of it and do enjoy reading about scientific discoveries, as long as the reading is not too technical and dry. Thank goodness everyone is not like me!

message 55: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) - What are you reading for this category? Eragon
- Why did you choose this book?
It has been on my to read list for a while and I have never read it. It also said that it was a science fiction book and I do not tend to read a lot of these.
- Are you interested in science?
I do not read science books or science fiction books. However, science was one of best classes in high school.

Jean Cole (joc724) | 324 comments What are you reading for this category? American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Why did you choose this book? I'm not a regular sci-fi reader, so I resorted to the Hugo and Nebula Awards winners for suggestions and that's where I found this book. Having completed it, however, I wouldn't say that it is sci-fi at all, but fantasy. Oh well, c'est la vie.
Are you interested in science? As much as the next person I suppose.

GailW (abbygg) | 675 comments What are you reading for this category?
I read The Power by Naomi Alderman
Why did you choose this book?
It came highly recommended to me by one of my nieces who has never steered me wrong
Are you interested in science?
I am. I have become more interested in science fiction in particular over the last few years. And the topic of this book was too good for this old feminist to pass up...

Kathy E | 3337 comments What are you reading for this category?
The Drunken Botanist: The Plants That Create the World's Great Drinks - Amy Stewart

Why did you choose this book?
I own it and hadn't read it yet.

Are you interested in science?
Not as much as literature and history, but I feel I should read some science.

Samantha | 1588 comments - What are you reading for this category? The Final Six
- Why did you choose this book? It just keeps showing up on my rader.
- Are you interested in science? I am but so much of it is over my head.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments What are you reading for this category?
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

Why did you choose this book?
I've heard almost unanimously good things about this book, and I always enjoy learning.

Are you interested in science?
I'm not super-sciencey, no, so I chose something a little more science-lite (rather than physics or chemistry).

I read Binti for this; I liked it but didn't love it. The main character is pretty good, but in such a small space it's hard to really form a connection. I think I may have liked the idea of this book more than the actual thing.

message 62: by Erika (new)

Erika wickwire I got mixed up with my weeks so I'm late to this week, I'm going to continue on with a dance for dragons. I keep reading a bit and then putting it back down.

message 63: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 557 comments I read Where Song Began by Tim Low, a fascinating book about Australian birds, which compared with those elsewhere, are more likely to be intelligent, aggressive, loud, long-lived, ecologically powerful, and to live in complex societies. Certainly appears true given the noise outside my window this morning!

Shelley | 428 comments What are you reading for this category?
Ancillary Justice

Why did you choose this book?
I'm in a sci-fi book club and this was September's book. It's a full on hard sci-fi with space ships and planetary empires.

Are you interested in science?
Science yes, and since I'm in a sci-fi book club, I'm obviously interested in sci-fi. I really wanted to read something hard core for this, so actually voted for this book to correspond. It was enjoyable but very confusing. I'm thrilled that I got to talk about it afterwards cause I definitely missed really large important details.

message 65: by Emma (new)

Emma (factandfable) | 182 comments I read Story Proof: The Science Behind the Startling Power of Story by Kendall Haven. I actually read a lot of both science and science fiction books, so I could sort of pick and choose what I fit into this category.

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments What are you reading for this category?
I read A Second Chance by Jodi Taylor

Why did you choose this book?
It was the next in a series I have been reading.

Are you interested in science?
Some parts of science interest me, but I am not really interested in reading SF

message 67: by Pam (last edited Nov 04, 2018 04:51PM) (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3851 comments - What are you reading for this category?
For my 2nd challenge, I just started Invisible Planets: Contemporary Chinese Science Fiction in Translation edited by Ken Liu. (A 2nd book is coming out in early 2019, which I plan on reading, also!)

- Why did you choose this book?
I don't remember where I saw the title but, as soon as I saw it, I put it on hold at the library! I needed a book set in China or by a Chinese author for a different challenge. Since I love SF and Ken Liu is one of my favorite SF authors, this is a win-win book for me! I've only read the essays at the end about Chinese SF, which I found fascinating.

- Are you interested in science?
Yes but I'm not very knowledgeable about astronomy or physics.

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3851 comments Anastasia wrote: "@Pam - It has a sequel? That is great. I have been putting off reading the last few chapters because I am worried about what happens next though."

Hi Anastasia! I am so sorry that I didn't see your reply months ago. Yes, it has a sequel - Children of God. I just started it and am really enjoying it. I was afraid to read the sequel, which sounds silly, but having read the first book, I'm sure you understand! One thing you will find out very early on is why Sandoz was in that particular "situation". I am glad that was explained. Now that I've started it, I have to finish it! I hope you get a chance to read it.

message 69: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1731 comments @Pam I just added it to my TBR. Some books are worth the emotional struggle to read.

Angela | 389 comments What are you reading for this category?
Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

Why did you choose this book?
It's an absolute classic that I just haven't read to date, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to do so.

Are you interested in science?
Yes, definitely. I don't read enough of it though.
