I think if Aly goes back to Tortall at the end of this book, Dove could make a good potential replacement as a spy-master. She certainly seems to have the right temperament and aptitude for it.

It's mostly original stories. If I remember correctly but you are right that there are a few books that relate back to the characters in Tortall. :)

Ch. 4 (view spoiler)[ I'm so worried about Imajane and Rubinyan's machinations. I don't trust them at all. Like negative trust. I also don't want Dunveon or Elsren to die for the Raka rebellion. Maybe they could just leave?? I love seeing Aly in more of a spymaster role, it definitely suits her. I find it fascinating she was able to trick the spy for the crown so easily, but then there's the captain of the guard to deal with. Things are going to get interesting really quickly I think (hide spoiler)]
