Saker | 3 comments It's about a young man (I believe minor noble?) who has horrible bad luck and ends up enslaved/apprentice to a overweight evil Wizard (not sure of his title) who lives in a castle/tower above a small town he rules over. Wizard is fighting a Sorceress who lives in a castle across the valley high in the mists (main character is forced to go get a ingredient for the wizard outside her castle and ends up meeting her) They both have some kind of oddly long hyper-dexterous fingers (which in the book is some kind of tell that the person has potential of magic, as was the characters extreme bad-luck). The character is enslaved by having a created-by-magic/alchemy metal snake around his neck, which tightens or bites him whenever he is disobedient. There's also a young woman enslaved/apprenticed who of course ends up being the love interest. The evil wizard ends up making some clones of himself in some vats from the ingredients he forces the main character to bring him. I read this book years ago and enjoyed it can't remember the name or find the book (some were stolen in a move by "professional" movers years ago), have tried searching on-line with no luck... Hope someone here may know the title/author! Hopeful he may have written more in this world with the characters. I would have read it probably somewhere between mid 80's and 90's exactly when it was written I have even less certainty. I remember it as definitely being above average in it's writing and the magic system actually had a logic that was believable (had to do with these people developing senses of a couple higher dimensions and then being able to manipulate them producing effects in this world).

I haven't posted anywhere else on this site yet, as I haven't figured out these forums yet. Or just where else I should post. I was hoping to find a specific group just for people looking for book titles but I didn't see any...

THAT'S IT!!!!!! Thank you sooooo much!!! As soon as I saw that title I remembered and that cover-art! Wish I still had my original copy, I'll have to look into getting a replacement. So wish she would have written a sequel, or just another book in this world-setting.

B.B. Shepherd (bbshepherd) | 27 comments I'm glad you found it so quickly! As far as specific threads for finding titles, I don't know of any here, but at Librarything there's this: https://www.librarything.com/groups/n...
Just for future reference. :)
