In this chapter we learn about the Daeva. What did you think of their demonology? The devil's slaves? I think that The Dealer would have a big grievance against the big man himself and that means he may ally himself with Reyes and Charley. Well a girl can hope. :-) In addition, Reyes is angry, very angry at Charley and they have soul merging experience that leaves you warm and gooey inside. At least that's what happened to me. haha! Charley gaining more practice with her powers is awesome. You go girl! Can't believe she didn't go and sleep next door with her man. Not sure why she's still holding him at arm's length. Thoughts?

Ines (slayraa) | 684 comments Technically speaking, knowing how demons tend to betray each other, the only way to get them to do what you want to do is to enslave them so it made sense. I loved that Darynda developed this supernatural world so deeply! I'm also voting for the alliance between those three.

The one thing I don't understand is why Charley does not take her time to try her powers. Just sit down and try to make things move, try to make her move, try more often to test herself. I think that scene was the first time she tried her powers without being forced to do so. And I think she loves to tease Reyes, and if he wants her, she will make him suffer with desire!

That's something I always wondered about Charley too, Ines. I thought she would at least experiment with things.

Angel Hatfield (angelramona) | 6 comments I think the reason she doesn't just sit and try her powers is more the ADD thing. She has too many things going in her mind all at once to take the time to just focus on getting better. It also doesn't help that Reyes won't tell her specific things she's capable of.

Angel,
you may be right!

I agree with Dana, Angel! Forgot about her ADD. LOL

Stephanie Raffel (stefraffel) | 10 comments This is the biggest frustration of the members of another book club I belong to, why Charley hasn't played around with her powers. Being such a Charley/Darynda fan I am being patient with them both :-) I like that Angel is giving them (C&D) the benefit of the doubt and finding an angle that makes sense. ADD is a good excuse for a multitude of shortcomings.

Sara (sara_beth_k) | 11 comments I think part of the reason she holds him at arms length is the trust issue. We all know he isn't telling her everything and most of what she finds out about Reyes is from snooping or other people. It's hard to leap into uncertainty. Human nature by far prefers to look ahead before taking a step.

Suzan (suzi1811) | 42 comments She wants him to be open with her and tell her about his time in hell and since escaping hell but I think he doesn't tell her because it's difficult for him but honestly, I think he's wrong about not telling her, he thinks she'll fall out of love with him but I don't think she will cause who he was in hell and who he is now are very different beings!
As for the dealer, I sympathise with him for how he was created and for being a slave in hell and I agree he will genuinely want to destroy Satan, the problem is, he probably won't care who he has to use or how many die to make that happen so I still don't trust him. He wants to tell Charley about her abilities and undermine Reyes in doing so but I think Reyes has a good reason for wanting her to find them on her own.

I really enjoyed the scene and learning about the Daeva. I love how the story continues to build throughout the books. THIS is why I liked the Dealer so much

I find the whole world fascinating. I agree Daeva or slaves make sense with the demons. I enjoyed Reyes's response to the Daeva the most. He absolutely refused to be lumped in with them even though they were both beings created by Satan.

I believe Charley is teasing Reyes with not answering but it would definitely drive me crazy not knowing about my lover's past or having him not answer my questions. I am not sure Charley stops to think so much though. For me, it would be a definite problem. Charley is definitely more of a feeler and doer. She never stops to consider the consequences of any of her actions. Reyes is always complaining of this.

I like Ines's assessment that Charley has ADD and has too much going on to sit and practice her powers. With the end of the book, maybe she and Reyes will be forced to change. Charley may have to practice and Reyes may have to become more forthcoming.
