Graeme Rodaughan Well, that's a pain.

They will remain operating for now.

Quantum (quantumkatana) What a bummer. They didn’t say why in the FAQ. Probably not enough traction for its parent company, MacMillan, one of the Big 5.

message 3: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan That was my first thought too. Not enough critical mass, growth, etc to warrant further investment.

Graeme Rodaughan Fortunately, I've got Amazon on 'unpublished' not deleted and I can republish at any time.

Looks like I'll go back to KU and exclusivity for the short to medium term.

EDIT: New info - see below

message 5: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan I've started transferring to Draft 2 Digital (D2D) for all outlets other than Amazon. D2D don't do Amazon - so I'll go Amazon without KU.

Graeme Rodaughan Me too.

Graeme Rodaughan Ok. Actions taken.

[1] Moved both A Subtle Agency and A Traitor's War to Draft 2 Digital.

[2] Reused the constructed .mobi files from Draft 2 Digital to update my Amazon Kindle files (all epub/kindle files will have the same look and feel).

[3] Shutdown my Pronoun accounts. Books are coming offline now.

To Do.

[4] Publish Amazon Kindle versions (just waiting for Pronoun versions to come off the sites).

[5] Update currently booked advertisers with the updated links.

NOTE: Paperback versions are unaffected by this.

Quantum (quantumkatana) Very proactive and limber. To make it in book publishing you have to keep adapting.

Quantum (quantumkatana) What’s the advantages of D2D over Ingram Spark?

Neil Carstairs | 53 comments I actually left Pronoun a month or so back and returned to the KDP fold. If you have published through Pronoun make sure you get a letter (email) from them confirming you have full rights for the work to be published elsewhere. They were quick to send mine out when requested and I always found there staff to be very helpful. All in all it's a shame this has happened.

message 11: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan And today I get an email from D2D proclaiming they now have a deal with Amazon.

So back to Amazon, unpublish and update D2D.

Starting to feel like I'm running around in circles.

Hi Neil, that's always been part of the author agreement.

It has but any new publisher will want evidence that an author has the right to republish. Amazon asked for it when I went to them with a book previously published through Pronoun

Graeme Rodaughan OK.

Neil Carstairs | 53 comments This is an interesting article. There is a table approx a third of the way down comparing what Pronoun offered with Smashwords, D2D, Streetlib, Xinxii, Publishdrive and EBook Partnership followed by brief details about each company.

Very informative article. Thanks!

(Alliance of Independent Authors is such an excellent resource!)

message 17: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan I have adopted the following architecture.

[1] Amazon KDP (Not KDP Select = Non-Exclusive) for Amazon.
[2] Draft2Digital for everything else.

message 18: by Zsófia (new)

Zsófia Machó | 2 comments Thank you for the mention Neil, I'm sorry I did not notice this discussion earlier. I work at PublishDrive and I'm here to answer any questions or comments you may have.

After this unfortunate event, we would like to provide authors and publishers left stranded with the smoothest transition possible, so we have created a Pronoun import tool and have struck special deals with some distributors.

You can read more here: https://the-digital-reader.com/2017/1... or contact me with further questions.
