Priyadarshni Palanikumar | 27 comments Hi, I was going through this series recently,

https://www.goodreads.com/series/1914...

A Kindle edition of this book has both #1 and #1.5 in it. So, I'm not sure how I should edit that.

This is the link to the edition : https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

This is from the manual regarding the numbering of series https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/4... does that help explain why your seeing that? If not please clarify why it's wrong.

oh wait i read that wrong.
Oh my, that book has 58 pages of editions. Kindle alone has 12 pages. Can you link the one that says 1.5 or provide an isbn so we can see it? After that we could give you advice on how to deal with it.

Arenda | 26447 comments Little Women was published in different ways.
The first edition of Little Women was published in 1868.
In 1869 part two of Little Women, also known as Good Wives, was published.
Afterwards, these both parts were often published as one book.

Good Wives being the second part of book 1 (when you consider this a trilogy) should not be numbered 1.5, but book 1, part 2.

The real problem is that all editions of Little Women, whether they include only the first part of Little Women, or both Little Women and Good Wives, are all combined together.

And some that obviously contain both parts have a separate listing: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

What needs to be done, if someone is up to it, and if the information can be found, is to separate all editions of Little Women (1727): https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio... into the ones that contain only part one, and the ones that contain both part one and part two.

The ones that contain both parts should then be combined with the ones that are currently as 1-1.5.

Arenda | 26447 comments I'd like someone to think along with me about the series numbering.
I see two options.

========
Option 1:

Since these are often referred to as a trilogy:
1. The complete edition of Little Women, 47 chapters (Little Women, 23 chapters + Good Wives)
2. Little Men
3. Jo's Boys

Editions with the first part of Little Women (23 chapters) only should be numbered book 1, part 1.
Good Wives is book 1, part 2.

=========
Option 2
(maybe not really an option now I think of it, as the chapters of Good Wives do not start with 1, but continue with 24, but they were published as different volumes when they were first published)

1. Little Women (23 chapters)
2. Good Wives
3. Little Men
4. Jo's Boys
The complete editions of Little Women (47 chapters, including Good Wives), should be numbered book 1-2.

Renske | 12223 comments I think option 1 would give less problems and I would also prefer that order.
If only we could keep those books separated.

Thank you. That's also the one I prefer.

If only we could keep those books separated.
That's not going to happen. Leaving Librarian notes might help a bit.

I have already separated some adaptations, and added/moved the adapter as primary author.

For some editions I could determine the number of chapters in the Amazon look inside function. But also quite a lot of editions already where it is quite impossible to find out what the content of that edition is.

Do you mean numbering Good Wives 1.5 in option 1? If you do so, it would save a lot of time seeing as several editions already are numbered that way.

The only difficulty is determining correctly whether each Little Women book has both or only part 1.

Oh, and Arenda, the edition I was referring to when I started this thread, https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... has both part 1 and part 2 of Little Women #1. You must have made a mistake while editing.

Renske | 12223 comments It shouldn't be numbered 1.5 as we use decimal numbers for extras such as a short story.

I'm working on identifying these.
There is not much information. Worldcat isn't really helpful here. The best way is to use the Amazon look inside function, when it is for that specific edition, and see how many chapters there are.

I know. I have already corrected the numbering in the series. Before separating a whole bunch of the complete Little Women and combining them with the ones titles "Little Women and Good Wives", I wanted to identify as many editions as I can first.
The editions of Little Women are now (temporarily) in the series as book 1, part 1.

It is a large project and will take quite some time.

Arenda | 26447 comments Update: I'm sure there can always be done more, but for now I'm done with this project.

I've separated all editions I could confirm only contain part 1: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

And also separated lots of adaptations (where adapter known, added adapter as primary author).

Combined all editions that contain both part 1 and part 2 (and still many unidentified editions are included here): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Here is the updated series page: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1914...

And also cleaned up lots of titles (moved info to edition field).
