Here’s another explanation of how rounds will work in this challenge…There are 35 primary tasks that each team will choose 5 tasks from for each of the 7 rounds. 5 tasks x 7 rounds = 35 tasks — all finished by the end of the challenge. If we end up with teams of 5, which is what we are aiming for, each round, each team member will read one book that covers one of the 35 primary tasks. The order of primary tasks doesn't matter, and no team member will choose the same task as each task can only be fulfilled once by one person per team. There is a lot of flexibility in this as each participant gets to choose their task and book for each round.
The bonus tasks are a bit different as they are specific to each round and to earn a bonus point for a round, someone in the group must read an additional book that fulfills the bonus task instructions for that round.
So, as an example, Round One for a team might look something like this:
________________________________________________
ROUND ONE: TEAM ONE (November 15-28)
#1: Fall Colors: Red/Orange/Yellow/Brown
*Read by: ???
*How it works: Cover has the majority color of BROWN.
*How it works for the task BONUS POINT: The word “LEAF” is in its text. “The weekly paper landed on a nearby drop-leaf table with a disappointing slap” (p. 11).
#2. Thanks-giving (November 23)
*Read by: Emily
*How it works: THANKSGIVING is in the title.
#3. ThanksgivingParty/Gathering
*Read by: Monique
*How it works: There is a gathering of people at Thanksgiving in its text. “We were all together for Thanksgiving at my sister’s house” (p. 26).
#9. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
*Read by: ???
*How it works: There is SNOW on the cover.
#24. Poinsettia
*Read by: ???
*How it works: The title, Old Fashioned, starts with a letter in the word “POINSETTIA.”
*ROUND ONE BONUS POINT TASK*
*Read by: Monique
*How it works: BASKET is in the text. “Leaving her sewing basket behind, she crossed the rug…” (p. 127).
________________________________________________
5 primary tasks, 1 bonus task, and 6 different books read for these tasks each round.
Keep in mind that books read for this challenge must be at least 100 pages in length and cannot be cookbooks, picture books, manga, graphic novels, or poetry books. Also, in order for a book to count for a round it must be finished and reviewed within the time period of the round. Reviews don't have to be long, at least one descriptive sentence will do. :)

Bryce, be sure to stop by the group in the summertime and join in the current challenge then! Sorry you won't be able to join in now.

This group also helps you get to know bloggers...and yes, the reading challenge is tons of fun. :)

Y'all, I'm so excited for how many of us have signed up. If you've never played a team challenge before, welcome! and you're really going to love it (I hope). For those of you who have been there, done that: great to see you again!
Hello! I would love to do this! Sounds like a lot of fun.I read about 4 books a week, but not always. So I can count on at least 10 books a month. Sometimes more.
I'm new here, so I might need to go over the rules a couple of times. Will I be notified what my tasks are? Thanks!
Libby, welcome! So glad to have you aboard for this challenge. Once the teams get assigned, each team will chat about which categories they want to do for the first round. This challenge has the new twist of each person being able to choose from the list of available categories for every round (each cat. only used once in the game, though). Hopefully that makes sense. When I was new, the first round was a bit tricky, but I had it figured out by round two. I'm sure it will be the same for you! Plus, teammates and other game players are really wonderful about helping each other out.

I love seeing so many people sign up! Teams will be created in a couple days (most likely Sunday). :))
Okay, so I've joined the group! I read about 4-7 books per month. It really depends on what my schedule's like and if school's in session. :)

What a neat way to do a reading challenge! I'm a bit bummed that the teams have already been formed. I was off Goodreads for a couple of days, so I missed the invite Sarah Grace sent me. I'll have to remember in February to sign up for the next challenge. Have fun reading, everyone!
Melanie, is Karis in time to hop onto one of the smaller teams, since the first round is just getting started?
Just in case, I were, (and thanks for asking, Hannah), I should mention I'm a fast reader, and my average monthly number of books is ten.
Karis, you can join team Frost. :))
I have two more spots open, if anyone else wants to join before the game starts.

Aw, that's too bad! :(
Unfortunately Emily informed me that she will not be able to participate in this challenge...This is the reason for R.A.'s "Aw, that's too bad! :(" message. My previous message accidentally got deleted.
Hey, is it too late to join, I was to busy and didn't get a chance to join earlier. I know the teams are already chosen, so if it is too late thats fine. But if I could join, that would be great.I read about 6 books per month.

Thanks, Melanie! I'm excited to be able to join!
And, SG, thanks so much for the invite.

Thanks for letting me know!
I have a question. When the teams are choosing tasks, how do they know that the other teams haven't chosen some of the same tasks? Because each task can only be done once, right? Or is it that within a team, each task can only be done once? I'm slightly confused on that point.
It's within the team. Each team is working the same list for their team. You'll just want to check with your team on which categories are still available within your team each round.I'm so glad you're joining in!

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks, Andrea!
And I am too. I've seen you doing this reading challenge before, and it always intrigued me.

As some of you may have noticed, we have review discussion threads for each of our teams, found
here
. When we have finished reading and reviewing a task, we will post our task submissions in the review thread specific to the team we are on. These posts will be similar to previous challenges, and will look like this:ROUND # : TEAM NAME
TASK NUMBER & TITLE
BOOK COVER
*Read by: NAME
*Page Count:
*Date Finished:
*How it works:
*How it works for the BONUS POINT [if a bonus point is attached to the task]:
*Link to review:
When there is a word in the text task requirement, in the "How it works" section of this post, be sure to give a quote from the book with the keyword in it, and include the page number.
For example, my post in my team review thread for Round One, which I finished this morning, looks like this:
ROUND ONE: TEAM CRANBERRIES
#2. Thanks-giving (November 23)
*Read by: MONIQUE
*Page Count: 208
*Date Finished: November 15, 2017
*How it works: “GRATEFUL” is in the text. "As we become increasingly grateful, God exchanges our worries and sorrow for his peace, joy, and abundant life" (p. 87).
*Link to review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I spoke with Melanie (CFB and challenge moderator) about this, and she gave her approval. :)
Be sure to post your task submission within the dates of the round you wish it to count for. Also, keep in mind that the review threads are only for our task submissions. All other discussions will be in the chat threads.
Happy reading everyone! Round One has officially begun! :)
