I've read Murakami's Men Without Women, Norwegian Wood, and Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage. I'm not into anime or manga. I like fiction with interesting plots and characters. If a book gives me something new to think about, another way of seeing, then I'm satisfied.
A couple of years ago, I only read high school romances - or just anything with a relationship. I aged quite a bit over the course of my reading slump, and now I read mostly classics, essays, and womens lit. That's not to say I don't enjoy the things I used to read, I just no longer prefer them.
Oh, I like children's lit too. Usually, my daughter tells me what is a must-read. Most recently, The Phantom Tollbooth. But upon her recommendation, I've also read Cosmic and What We Found in the Sofa and How it Saved the World--this last one was quite well-done. Interestingly, she didn't recommend the The Hunger Games nor Divergent, so I'd say she has exceptional taste.
I used to be super into dystopians and Tudor fiction when I was younger because I would read whatever I found at the library. I wasn't on Goodreads yet and didn't really know what was popular or anything like that. I also liked more simple writing styles and fast-paced actions. Now I like historical fiction about lesser-known regions or events, science-fiction, fantasy, contemporary, manga, etc. I still read whichever catches my interest, but I've found I love super descriptive writing styles and a more atmospheric setting as opposed to when I was younger.
I prefer to read books that have a deep psychological impact - not New Age, Self Help - but something more raw and edgy in a story format. I like reading non fiction extreme adventure books too, where people are placed in dangerous situations and they battle with their mind to survive.Acupuncture of The Mind
I've just finished reading The Romanov Conspiracy by Glenn Meade. This is my kind of book - well written, well researched and which keeps the reader's rapt attention. Here is my review; https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Nik, have you read it and if so, how accurate do you think it is, historically?

Several years ago, I was into anime and manga. Then more recently I was into horror. But science nonfiction has been fairly consistent reading for me. My new thing now is litRPG, where the protagonist gets trapped in a virtual world.
I like magical realism like Murakami's IQ84, but don't read enough of it.
How about you? What kind of style do you like?
