I'm going with my last name "Thompson" and planning to finally read Craig Thompson's "Blankets" for this.

I think I've actually checked that book out of the library twice now, and each time it comes due again before I can read it! Third time's the charm?

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 128 comments I'm going to be reading A Última Feiticeira, by Sandra Carvalho.

message 53: by Megan (new)

Megan | 361 comments I'm going to pass on the erotica (sorry NOT sorry!) and read All the Missing Girls

message 54: by Kearston (new)

Kearston Wesner | 28 comments Man, this challenge is a nightmare.

Do I want to read a trigonometry textbook, a book about Christian marriage counseling, or The Handbook of Public Water Systems? Decisions.

Maybe I'll go with whatever the heck this is: Bilanzierungsgrundsätze im Wertpapierrecht der U.S.A. (neue betriebswirtschaftliche forschung (nbf)) (German Edition)

message 55: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments 😂😂😂 omg lol those sound interesting!

message 56: by Sofie (new)

Sofie (sostorm) | 56 comments I might just fub the spelling of my first name and read something by Sofi Oksanen. I'm not sure I can find anything by Sofie Laguna in the neighbourhood and I don't want to read about cats or killings.

Of those I'd go with the Public Water System. It sounds sort of intriguing...

message 58: by Mo (new)

Mo Smith (moreadsbooks) | 25 comments My last name is Smith. So many choices, so little time!

message 59: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 407 comments There are a few different Jacqueline's so I decided I might read Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls.

I truly think that you are safe to post your name.

This last one looks awefull even to me as native German speaker... the title is what a German would call Fachchinesisch - topic related chinese - meaning as hard to understand as chinese.

I would recommend a finacial and or laws degree preferably from a university, as this seems to be an article on funds, laws and fines charged in the US. Might be something different too - because as mentioned above this is chinese to the average German ^^

I keep smiling. You made my day :)

message 62: by Anne-Marie (new)

Anne-Marie R Miles (annemarielives) This is probably my least favourite prompt!

I have had a look at authors with my name Anne-Marie and nothing grabs my attention. My surname, Livesey, is also quite uncommon.

I might just look for authors with the name Anne, which is technically part of my first name?

Debbie (debzanne) | 165 comments Anabell wrote: "I am Reading a fairy tale by Hans Christian ANDERSEN. Even though I think I’ve read most of them as a child. But looking forward to reading one again and gets to dust of my collection of his work :-)"

I thought I'd read most of his stories as a child, too. However, I'm reading Hans Christian Andersen: The Complete Fairy Tales and Stories for my 800-page book challenge in 2017, and I'm finding sooooo many stories - not so much the fairy tales - that I didn't know he'd written. It's slow reading, but enjoyable. (I wouldn't recommend the 800-page complete edition, though...

message 64: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisafriel) | 32 comments I am either going to go with The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See which is on my TBR list or find one of Brian Friel's books. He is apparently a pretty famous playwright in Ireland where my great grandfather is from.

message 65: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments I think I found mine. the Murders of Molly Southbourne by Tade Thompson.

message 66: by Bridget (new)

Bridget | 26 comments Best I can find is...my grandaughter's name is Elowyn. E. B. White's name is the male version Elwyn. I own Stuart Little and Charlott's Web.

message 67: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 0 comments My first name is Shannon so I think I shall go with Shannon Hale. I've already read Austenland. Does anyone have a recommendation for any of her other titles?

I really liked Book of a Thousand Days Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale .

Stephen | 32 comments Kearston wrote: "Maybe I'll go with whatever the heck this is: Bilanzierungsgrundsätze im Wertpapierrecht der U.S.A. (neue betriebswirtschaftliche forschung (nbf)) (German Edition)"

Even if you read German, I'd stick with the Handbook of Public Water Systems. That translates as "Accounting Principles in Securities Law of the USA (New Business Research)"

I feel sorry for some of you in this category. All I have to do is decide which Stephen King to read (unless I go for Stephen Fry, or Stephen Hawking).

message 72: by Lilia (new)

Lilia Snyder | 53 comments I’m glad this also says last name, cause I’ve seen like, no one with my first name. But, hey! I can now read a Maria V. Snyder book for this! Or maybe Zilpha Keatley Snyder

message 73: by Ruth (last edited Dec 05, 2017 05:22PM) (new)

Ruth Lanton (ruthla8) | 177 comments I use my maiden name, and my mother has a few published picture books. It would be totally cheating to use one of those for this prompt, wouldn't it? I mean, there HAVE to be some authors named Ruth, right?

I also think it"s OK to use your middle name if you can't find any matches for your first or last name.

BTW, is there an easy way to search Goodreads by author name?

message 74: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I think In search you can search by author for sure

message 75: by Monica (new)

Monica (booksarelove) | 121 comments Of course you can use one of your mother's books. If you don't want to, Ruth Reichl, a former New York Times restaurant reviewer, has written several books.

I also use a pseudonym for public boards, so I'm using my pseudonym or a version of Miriam or Pauline (Miri or Paul).

message 77: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 407 comments Megan wrote: "I'm going to pass on the erotica (sorry NOT sorry!) and read All the Missing Girls"

Haha I found an author this morning with the exact same name as my paternal grandmother. Grace Goodwin. So my maiden name. I thought great I can read that. Yeahhhh it’s some sort of fantasy erotica set on some planet where the earth girls have been given to 2 or 3 hunky aliens and the girls have to be mastered. All the books seem to have the same basic premise. I might stick to Valley of the Dolls. Even though iBooks does have one for free.......

message 78: by Sami (new)

Sami Passlow (xbookwormyx) For Samantha there is Samantha Shannon who writes The Bone Season series and Samantha Young who wrote The Impossible Vastness Of Us.

You know there is a hilarious Italian comedian with your name, but I don't know if she has been translated.

message 80: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 7 comments I’ll be reading this one. We have the same first AND last name. People keep asking me if I wrote this. Ha.

Jennifer Niven

message 84: by Monica (new)

Monica (booksarelove) | 121 comments Don't forget about Jennifer Crusie and Jennifer Weiner! I love them. You will love them, too, if you like chick-lit.

message 85: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 5 comments Thanks so much for the suggestions! These are all new authors to me. I’m excited to check them out

message 86: by Zily (new)

Yeah! I have a law degree! I'm in luck!

I don't think my three semesters of college German 20 years ago are going to be particularly helpful here though.

...Also, that book sounds painful to read.

At this point, I think I'll just change my name. ;)

message 88: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments Lol. Maybe a similar name, with an alternate spelling? Or maybe your middle name? Or even just matching initials?

message 89: by Monica (new)

Monica (booksarelove) | 121 comments I found this book by Amir Levine.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...

This is not a recommendation, because I never heard of Amir Levine before. But the book might be good.

message 90: by Anna (new)

Anna (annaholla) I play Anna Quindlen in an online trivia league, so I think I have to read something by her...

message 91: by Laura (new)

Laura Miles | 244 comments Has anyone considered using authors that have the same first or last name, but in different order, for this prompt? For example, my last name is Miles, which could also be a first name. This might be a way to explore more options for those with less common names.

message 92: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin (catielane) | 60 comments Found one! Going with Tests of Time by William H. Gass. We share a last name!

message 93: by Adeline (new)

Adeline (addystarr) | 6 comments Well, I just found out that Virginia Wolf’s actual first name was Adeline. Ugh, I just can’t stomach her writing style....

message 94: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (zoezoe) I think I'm going to have to use the illustrators last name.

message 95: by Paulina (new)

Paulina | 7 comments I'm probably cheating here, but since I cannot find any good books written by anyone named Paulina (and I am not a big fan of Paulina Simmons) I am going with the translator - and Paulina Braiter translated "Hobbit" to Polish :)

Maybe that will give you some idea? :)

message 96: by E.R. (new)

message 99: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 29 comments I got lucky! There is an award winning author who shares both my first name and my surname - Sarah Hall. And she is about my age and lives not far from me, making me very difficult to find on any internet search as the first 50 million or so hits appear to be about her!

I share my name--first and last!--with an erotica writer *sigh*
