Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I read The Ice Beneath Her. I read it because I needed to read a Nordic noir book for another challenge, I read it then realized it also fit this prompt due to the 'ice' in the title. My 4 element prompts are not linked.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments What are you reading for this category?
The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

Why did you choose this book?
I read the first book in the series a few years ago, so I figured it was time to read the second! The Spider and I have just finished Harry Potter, so I'm on a bit of a search for another series for us to enjoy together.

If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked?
I had planned for all four to just have the exact word in the title, but I lost interest in that after 2/4. 😆

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments What are you reading for this category?
I’m reading Simplicity Parenting: Using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids by Kim John Payne

Why did you choose this book?
It fits the topic because the cover image includes water, and it’s been on my TBR for about a year so I wanted to finally get around to reading it.

Simplicity Parenting Using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids by Kim John Payne

If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked?
Not at all. I read Unaccustomed Earth for the earth prompt, Fahrenheit 451 for fire and I’m planning Dead Air for air. So a mixture of word in the title, cover image and role in the plot.

Ashley (ashleym99) - What are you reading for this category?
I read Mystery at Shadow Lake
- Why did you choose this book?
I read this as I got it as a free e-book and did not read it. It sounded like it would fit this prompt.
- If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked?
I have chosen by 4 Elements books and they are not linked.

Jean Cole (joc724) | 324 comments What are you reading for this category? Into the Water by Paula Hawkins
- Why did you choose this book? Because it was on my TBR list and fit the category.
If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked? They are not linked one to the other, just books that fit the category.

message 57: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (prairielily) | 177 comments I am rereading Not Wanted On The Voyage by Timothy Findley. I read it numerous times as a young adult.

My 4 elements aren't linked at all.

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 836 comments - What are you reading for this category?
Everything and the Moon (The Lyndon Sisters, #1) by Julia Quinn Everything and the Moon by Julia Quinn

- Why did you choose this book?
There's water on the cover and one of my favorite scenes in the book happened because of water. And I read this before I joined the challenge and thought it would be a good category to stick it in.

- If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked?
In a way, they're all linked because the elements are in the cover for all of them. The earth, fire and air are definitely linked since they're all from the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. The water element is the only one that's not from the series.

message 59: by Jeimy (new)

Jeimy (wanderingbookaneer) I read Where the Water Goes: Life and Death Along the Colorado River by David Owen. It is a fascinating look at water rights for the Colorado River.

message 60: by Beth (new)

Beth | 146 comments I read Into the Drowning Deep for this prompt. It would work equally well for prompt 42 (A book that takes place on, in, or underwater).

Two of my prompts were linked. I read The Fifth Season (Book 1 of The Broken Earth trilogy) for the Earth prompt. I needed to figure out where I was going to fit the other two books into my challenge and decided that book 3 (The Stone Sky) would work for Air.

I read Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life for this prompt. I enjoyed it, and it was a good pick for beach reading. It's a memoir about surfing and there is a lot of time spent discussing waves and riding them and what makes a good surfing wave, etc, so it definitely fit the prompt for me.

I had not intended any connection between my elements books, but by chance I read nonfiction for both earth and fire, so I decided to keep that a running theme. I have a couple of nice flight-themed nonfiction books on my tbr that will work well for air.

that is a neat idea to read all non-fiction for these!

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3837 comments - What are you reading for this category? The Old Man and the Sea
- Why did you choose this book? It seemed like an appropriate book to read during Shark Week and it was short! And, I couldn't remember if I had ever read it.
- If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked? Not at all.

Lake Silence by Anne Bishop

Why did you choose this book?
Because it fit with this prompt and it came in the mail at the perfect time!

If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked?
Nope they sure aren't. I just picked books that fit in and didn't worry if they linked together or not.

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas by Penelope Douglas

Why did you choose this book?
I want to read a romance book and noticed that the cover had water.

No, they are not linked.

message 67: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1730 comments The Little Paris Bookshop was perfect for this prompt. It was not originally on my plan but it is a bookshop on water, why not? The water theme is very important to the story.

I did not link the books I choose for these prompts. Next year I will put more thought into how to link the multi week prompts. It would be more fun.

message 68: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 456 comments For this prompt, I read Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield. I selected it because I enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale last year. My four books are not linked.

message 69: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 423 comments What are you reading for this category? Over Sea, Under Stone

Why did you choose this book? I had this one and A Wizard of Earthsea for either Earth or Water. I should have probably swapped them.

If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked? They are not linked.

Black Water Lilies, by Michel Bussi
Black Water Lilies by Michel Bussi

Why did you choose this book?
It has the word water in the title, and I’ve had it on my bookshelf for ages - thought I’d take advantage of this prompt and finally read it!

If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked?
Beyond the fact that all four books have the exact element in the title, they’re not linked at all.

They are not linked

message 73: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Just finished Into the Water by Paula Hawkins. I enjoyed it until about the end. Not sure why I started to lose interest. 3 stars.

I chose it because its been sitting on my shelf since I picked it for BOTM, and I haven't read any of my BOTM choices so I tried to fit them all into this years challenge.

My elements Books are all linked in that I used the actual element in the title
Unaccustomed Earth
When Breath Becomes Air
( just started 1/4 through) Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness
and
Into the Water

Sara (phantomswife) I was one of the rare people who was not wowed by The Girl on the Train, Tracy. Sounds like Into the Water might strike me the same way.

It definitely didn't seem to wow most people Sara. Too many characters, too many points of view. I was REALLY enjoying it through the first 3/4 of the book, but then it just sort of lost its luster for me. I'm not sure if it was just because I kept getting interrupted, it was too long, or the ending was just not as surprising as I thought it would be? I rated Girl on the Train pretty highly, but I don't remember reading it.

Into the Water

Why did you choose this book?
I really liked The Girl on the Train and I wanted to try another book by this author.

If you already have chosen your 4 Elements books, are they somewhat linked?
I had definite ideas in mind right away by everything except Earth, but I wouldn't say that any of the books are connected to each other at all.
