Eeeek I'm so undecided on whether I want to read this book (I've read the others) from the reviews I have seen it doesn't look worth it. Love Laurell but god I hope she doesn't ruin the Anita Blake series too!!

I was planning to stop reading the Anita Blake series but I felt that Laurell actually redeemed herself that last 3 books. While there has been sex in the books, that has not been the focus, there's been actual police work and Zombie raising in the last few, which made the books more enjoyable and more like the Anita we all fell in love with. This last Merry book was a hot mess.
I used to love Anita Blake but can't get though a book in the last 4 years. The new Merry was good but I wish there was a stronger plot and the ending was different.
Laurell had five years to write this novel, but didn't turn the first draft into the publisher until almost three months before the publication date. She was clearly not willing to put in the necessary work in to produce a quality novel. And unfortunately she has no motivation to change her behavior because she still sells just enough to get her onto the NYT Bestseller List.

I think the consumer needs to teach them that "crap" just ain't gonna work any more that we expect more out of the...a quality product! - I personally will allow for one or two bad ones - but not like whats happened to Anita and now Merry.
we need to put out dollar on new authors with quality products..and even support the indies
just cause you make the list doesn't mean it's "really" a good book - it just says the consumer is gullible and a sheeple

What I find disappointing is that we as readers invest in a series because the writer has created this amazing world and rich characters, and once they have readership they begin to take it forgranted. I have waited with baited breath for each new book to come out, only for deadlines to be pushed back or books to be published with the hugest fonts size possible and very little content. I am a fan and I deserve better. Don't get me wrong, I have found other writers to love while waiting for the next book in a series, but I should not have to feel like my characters and I are being shafted for the sake of money, but as these writers gain fame we as readers are losing out.

Many movies did well at the box office that stunk, and we got sucked into wasting our money on it.
I'll sum up my thoughts about this book, the Anita Blake series and LKH in one short sentence: I can finally quit her.
I read this book the moment it was available on my kindle, stayed up all night to make sure it was there and started it the second it loaded...... I am still angry...months later.
I wanted to start my comment by first looking up what the word loyalty meant in all it's forms. How amazing that in doing so I found something new.I deceided to see how many hours I had spent reading her books, how many days I had spent thinking of some fact or phrase or turn of story had taken me into another reality where I had been in the story and moved me to another, just as exciting.
Had I found or discovered something new in my heart or revisited some place I had been and revisited and laughed or cried or just enjoyed those times.
Will your comments be they negative or positive do the same.Bring all who did those things to turn again and again to read these comments ! Maybe we can do this for one month, post our comments in poetic form. I would love to see that ! Hummm.. posibly it could make a small ( very small ) book... : )

I have been a staunch supporter of Laurell K. Hamilton, and in fact continue to be a fan of the Anita Blake series but this was so disappointing that I am actually angry and feel betrayed and let down. This feels like she so wanted to get this book over with that she could not be bothered to write a quality book for her fans and for that she owes the readers an apology or at least a refund.
