Hi, Wendy! Good luck with Olympus--I keep aiming for it and not quite getting there. So, I've declared for Everest with my eye on the big red planet. Hope to meet you at the top of Olympus by Dec 31st!

Bery (bery91) | 4 comments Hello everyone, I'm Bery and this is my first time climbing this challenge. I will start with 60 books- Mt. Kilimanjaro.

I'm also starting the Gilmore Challenge, which includes a lot of my books in my TBR list, so hopefully with both challenges I will take down my TBR pile.

message 209: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 13 comments Hi, this is my second year doing this challenge. I have signed up for Pike's Peak again. I read 13 books off my TBR list, starting from 2009. I read a total of 108 books, so I seem to have a bit of a problem...my TBR list is growing faster than I can keep up! Oh well, we'll see how it goes this year!

message 210: by EllenZReads (new)

EllenZReads Hi, I'm Ellen and I'm new to this group. Someone on my friends list (I can't recall who) joined this group and it sounded like a fun idea. I get most of my books from the local libraries, but I have about 100 books at home waiting to be read that I've bought over the last few years. I'm going to attempt to ascent Mt. Ararat and get 48 books off my shelves (literally). I'm participating in several other challenges on Goodreads and using my currently owned books for a lot of the topic ideas.

Tamera HI! My name is Tamera and "I'm a book-aholic and I need to read these books I keep accumulating!"

(all of you: "Hi Tamera")

This is my very first year doing this challenge and I am thinking that I am going to aim for Mt. Kilimanjaro to get myself a nice running start. I have a couple Mt. Olympus' on my TBR, but I'm trying to be realistic here.

This is going to be fun - I can smell the book pages from here... because I quite literally have my nose in a book ;)

Cendaquenta Hi! I'm Cenda. I'm new to Goodreads. My TBR is about 200+ books (physical and Kindle) so I do need to reduce it a little. I'm planning to start off with Mt Ararat, which I'm pretty sure I can accomplish, and then just go from there. Looking forward to it! :)

message 218: by Tip (new)

Tip Hi, I'm Tip, and this is my first time with this challenge. I am not a fast reader, and do not have as much time as I would like to read, but I am going to climb Mount Blanc. My goal is to make at least half of the books be from 2011/2012, which is when I first started using a Kindle. When I discoverd free ebooks I went kind if crazy, and I expect I will start and discard a few of them. I am more discriminating now, but still have a TBR list that is growing much faster than I can read them. At least I will always have something to read that I am in the mood for!

I am wondering, do most people report back here how they are progressing, or do they start a separate thread?

Thank you Bev for starting this challenge!

Hi, Tip! Welcome to the Challenge. Yes--go to the Mount Blanc section and open up thread/top and name it "Tip's Climb" (or whatever you'd like--you can see examples of what others have done). You'll use that thread to track your progress.

message 221: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Earle (unphilosophize) Hi soon to be friends,
I stumbled upon this group when I was entering a reading slump and looking for a group to help me build monthly TBRs but I think this is much better.
My owned TBR is sitting somewhere between 170 and 180 rn (I haven’t added the books that I bought in January to goodreads yet and recently done a unhaul and haven’t removed those books so I’m not 100% sure where i sit)
I’m really hoping to get to the books that have been sitting on my shelf for multiple years and not getting too distracted by shiny new books. I’m also trying to go on book buying restrictions and only buying sequels to books that I’ve already read and hoping that this group will help me stay motivated to read the books that I already own.
Right now my goal is to crush Mt. Vancouver. I have some rereads that I want to get to this year that won’t count and I’m also from Canada so how could I not choose our mountain to begin with? I read 100 books last year and according to the 50 book pledge I’m on track to read 101 this year so I think 36 is a really achievable goal for me and I’ll reassess in July.
I can’t wait to get to know you all and cheer you on in your reading goals!

message 222: by Jobiska (Cindy) (new)

Jobiska (Cindy) (jobiska) | 2 comments Hi! I'm Cindy, and I'm new to this challenge. I have countless TBR books--well, I'm not going to count them, but there are more than 30 linear feet of shelving, some double depth. I'm also doing the BookRiot Read Harder challenge, and I told myself I'd try really hard to fill a lot of that out of my TBR pile, but somehow I went and bought more (so those won't be part of this challenge, obviously, but there are a few I already had that will). I hope to move some out of the house, but I also have books I've picked up of authors I love and want to keep, or themes I love (for example, I collect Arthuriana, so when I read the new ones, unless I hate them, I'll add them to my Arthuriana shelf). Bev kindly said that as long as the status changes from TBR to "loved and kept" it counts :-) i'll start with going for just 12 but hope to up that if I make good progress!

Abi (booksa144) | 39 comments Hi, I'm Abi. I've never done a group like this, but my book buying and then not reading has gotten out of control. I will hopefully read at least the physical books (18, I think) and some of the ebooks (I'm aiming for 10-30 of those). The ebooks number around 200 (like I said, out of control purchasing) but hopefully I will make a dent!

message 240: by Meg (new)

Meg Oh. (megohmyeggo) Hello everyone, I'm Megan! I'm afraid to count how many books are in my TBR (at least 100 physical books), but I'm excited to start chipping away. I've read 8 books from my TBR so far as part of the PopSugar challenge I'm also doing, so my low goal is 12 books, but my true TRUE goal is 24.

message 241: by Sue (new)

Sue Hi Everyone - I'm Sue and I'm new to this group.

I've been slowly switching to an e-reader but I still have a couple shelves of books that I want to get to. I've **promised myself** that I won't buy a zillion e-books in advance. We'll see how that goes. I know I'm speaking to fellow book addicts here, so wish me luck!

I'm moving to a new house in a few months and I really need to shrink my physical TBR. I'm sure many of you have packed up and moved boxes of books - and I'm certainly not in my 20's (or 30's or 40's) anymore, so not looking forward to that task.

So thank you for setting up this challenge. I see that the group has been active for years. I just love that we never seem to run out of good books!

Happy reading everyone!

Hi Sue. We have been downsizing and culling for 6 months and have gotten rid of 50% of our books- somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 book boxes have gone to libraries and book sales, as well as 5-5 foot bookcases....and about 50% of our furniture . We are both 60, and this has to be one of the hardest and best things we’ve ever done (we were both in pre-internet book concentrated careers: librarian and ordained ministry). We still have a lot of books, and I have about 5K ebooks as well.

Color us *tired* and wishing you the best

message 246: by Taz (new)

Taz Hi, I'm Kelly (or Taz as indicated by my screenname) and I just found this group.

I'd really like to knock out my TBR list before my 70s so I'm hoping this group will be a great motivator.

Like most of you, I'm a bookaholic. Let me explain what that means for me: I personally own 2000 books (some duplicates) and I have not read half of them, I have over 1000 books on my Goodreads TBR, I keep falling victim to free Ebooks (1076 in my Kindle [though half are cookbooks and I don't plan to read them all]) AND I have a bad library habit which has (previously) kept me from my shelves!

Why is this a problem? My grandmother's are heavy readers and I stand to inherit their libraries too. It is so 'bad,' my grandfather once looked at me and said "You are not allowed to buy anymore books. You need to get an EReader before you end up like your Grandma."

After a recent move, ALL of my books are in storage and I've been motivated to check out books I own from the library though I have gotten off-track recently.

Haha. Jessika, I recently moved. 2000 books and 600 DVDs in two days. My friends were NOT happy with me (until I fed them). To make matters worse, moving cross-country means they are mostly still in storage with friends and family who are none too pleased about all the boxes taking up valuable space.
