Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well done Marc.
Grey day here, Having a manners lesson today but I think I’m losing. Feel out of step with everyone at the moment.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments We have the results of our staff consultation, hopefully from 3rd Sept, we will have flexi in place. Sorry you are still feeling out of sorts with your family Lynne

I made the long list 3 or 4 years ago, so I know how hard you worked to get from there to the shortlist. Great effort.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Yesterday was a trip to Gogland (North Wales), to see some of K's family. I'd forgotten how lovely Bettws y Coed is.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Sorry I’ve been quiet for a while, Mrs Gaff’s been in hospital again. Just wanted to say that it’s been quite comforting to lurk at the GR KUF for a bit of normality!

Anyway, it’s back on duty for now. Hope to be back soon!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh, I hope she's soon better, Gaff. Give her our love. xx

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Will do! It’s diverticular disease, which, I suspect, has been the trouble for a few years now. Thankfully, there’s a huge amount of information about diets etc. out there, so we should be able to manage it now, but if anyone has any advice/experience with it, we’d welcome any help we can get.

message 7160: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I have no personal experience but I know it's something that is manageable if you know you have it in the first place. Nasty. x

message 7161: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments A good friend of mine had that, it was very nasty for a while. Diet changes have made him a lot better though.

Thanks, Kath. I realize I'm an alien amongst you all when I don't recognize the reference - didn't know whether it was classical mythology (Jason and the Argonauts), some Northern European folk tale, or what. Duly noted.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Sorry to hear that Geoff, glad it is something manageable. Things must have been tough if we give you some normality!

message 7164: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Evening all,

Gaff, my-mother-in-law was hospitalised with diverticulitis almost a decade ago. She knows what flares it up and avoids those foods. She has only had a couple of episodes since, and each time she knew she'd let control of her diet slip a bit. Hope all goes well.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Sorry your wife has had a hard time of it and hope shes better soon Gaff.

Very busy here as you can imagine. Hopefully we'll be going to mandalay on Friday. We all just want to be there now.

Every time I read about this, I remember the first line of Daphne du Maurier's classic, Rebecca: "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again."

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments When I hear Mandalay I want to yodel it. mandalay-ay-ay-he-hoo!

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Pat Nellie for me when you get there, Patti!!

Officially miffed now. Another 4hrs in a&e since 2am. They now suspect that Mrs Gaff has a Clostridium infection as a result of her diverticulitis treatment!! More bloods, more tubes and more anxiety for the poor thing. I’m trying to remain stoic and failing miserably!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Morning all, was tossing and turning early on, then couldn't work out what the alarm was! Committee meeting after work.

Sorry you have been back in A & E Geoff.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Bummer for Mrs G.
I always think of Ken Dodd dressed up like an overgrown boy scout singing the road to Manderlay, carrying so much gear, including a false leg. Guess I'm just a pleb.

message 7172: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Kath, got that image in my head now and will be singing that all day now! I am a pleb, No, I am a pleb (oh - sorry, that's Spartacus!)

Hope they get things sorted with Mrs G soon.

Day 3 of the staycation. Monday was husband's birthday so had lunch at home with in-laws and friends. Friends have a 7 year-old, a 4 year-old and a tenth month old so was shattered. Yesterday I wrote in the morning and then we went to the north-east of the island and had a walk along the breakwater and a huge ice-cream each. Today husband is playing tennis and I have done 30 mins on the running machine and half an hour of yoga. Seriously, who has the time to work!!! We are going to make some sandwiches and a flask of tea and venture to the wild west today. St Ouen it is. Hope the rain stays away.

message 7173: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Lurking rain here, though it's yet to materialise.

message 7174: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Criminy, Gaff. I hope she's sorted quickly.

You want rain, I can get you rain. Guess they don't call it monsoon season for nuttin'

Had a couple of interesting PD sessions this morning, then an afternoon of sitting around. Not a lot we can do here with setting up classrooms. We need to get to our school! Still not sure if that's happening tomorrow or not.

Bunch of people asked me what we're doing for dinner tonight, so I better sort that out with Dave and email everyone.

Have I mentioned it's a great group we're working with? I'm so pleased about that.

That’s my memories too.
Hope all well ll, I’m enjoying a quiet coffee while the ‘boys’ go to the garage to get my car booked in for servicing. Bliss.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Off work today for a change - waiting to see if the weather lets us do anything nice with it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Morning all, rubbish night sleep, stiff this morning. Hoping for a quiet day.

Enjoy your meetings Patti. Hope you get to do something good with your day off Benjamin.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Had the young lad and his parents here overnight breaking their journey down to see the other grandkids. I have demanded photos!
Writing this morning, then a small arch to do for a weekend wedding in the village church.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Looks better weather this morning. I’m so glad I didn’t take the grandson to the Pembrokeshire show yesterday, apart from the heavy rain in the afternoon there was a nasty accident with a horse jumping into the crowd watching. My daughter’s friend was very close to it and said it was bad. Her husband had the presence of mind to lift the baby’s pram up and stand still but the old chap next to him was knocked down. Might go later as it’s the last day,

message 7185: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments The rain stayed away Desley but we had a change of plan. Instead of a cliff path walk we went to St Peter's Garden Centre - ahh another holiday tradition. Bought loads of stuff for the cats and some new garden tools. Had lunch there as well.

Have been on a beach walk, just made sausage sandwiches for a late breakfast and about to settle into the study for the day to get stuck into the editing.

Husband is gardening later. I may be forced into helping him!

Lynne, that sounds like an awful accident. Thank goodness the chap you know was a quick-thinker in picking up the pram.

Patti, how are the meetings going?

message 7186: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I had a lovely day.

Meetings were informative, I got access to loads of documents I need and I got the opportunity to deliver an assessment I'll be using frequently.
I'm starting to feel more confident that I'll be ready for the kids in a week. Need to get to our new school to see what resources I'll have.
We've got a 7:30am flight to Mandalay in the morning.
Bunch of us are going out for our final Yangon dinner soonish.

I like garden centres, that isn't my favourite in Jersey though, I always make my brother take me to Ransoms.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Last day in Spain, sitting by the municipal pool reading. Gaff sorry for Mrs gaff, it's a pig till you work out what's setting it of then you're ok.

Patti hope the school is as nice as the people involved. McMini's head teacher has retired and Richard Hammond off top gear's brother is his replacement.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That's very cool, Mary!

Frikkin amazing meal. Stupid amounts of fabulous food and beer. Cost the equivalent of 15 quid each. Gobsmacking.

And I really can't get my head around how wonderful the service is here, especially after the last six years of crap service in Baku. Wait staff here actually come to the table at the slightest gesture!
I hope it's the same in Mandalay.

Early start in the morning. We've decided we better get up at 4:30. Erg.

Sounds like you really needed a change - back to a rudimentary form of capitalist endeavours. Where people earn depending on their work.

Anyway, the food sounds amazing. Enjoy!

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning everyone. Dealing with boring stuff like the electricity meter today.

Glad things are going well for you, Patti!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Morning all, was freezing last night, woke up early roasting! Heating keeps trying to come on. Might have two meetings today, might not! Food shopping and petrol after work

Wow, that sounds great Patti. Enjoy your early start

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! The old work gang coming for lunch and our peri hairdresser is joining us. I've made a lamb and apricot tagine and I'm serving it with rice - cos couscous is like cardboard - unless you add flavourings then it's like cardboard with flavourings. With this morning's good news that a low carb diet takes years off your life (always thought that!) I've decided to make a cheese, sage and onion soda bread too.

Then they can roll me into bed!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We got to Mandalay about 9:30 this morning and went straight to our new school for a looky-loo.

It's absolutely gorgeous!!!

My classroom is huge and has TWO double glass doors leading straight into the garden! All brand spanking new.
Can't wait to get in there and start getting displays and stuff up!
That'll be Monday.

In a hotel for tonight. Hopefully in our new home tomorrow.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Glad that you like the new school Patti.

Cheers
