Jack Bunbury | 2 comments Hello, I'm looking for a book that was very similar to the "Where's Waldo" series and "The Stone in the Sword." The story revolved around two siblings -a brother and a sister-- who received an invitation from their uncle to visit him, but upon arrival, find that they are trapped on an island(?) with a horror theme, complete with haunted castles, monsters, vampires, and evil scientists. If I remember correctly, the pictures took up two pages, but unlike Where's Waldo, you had to turn the book sideways in order to properly view them. This is to say that the top of the illustration was really the side of the book, whereas the sides of the illustration were the bottoms of the two pages. This is how I remember it, though I could be wrong. Along the margins on both sides were insets with small quotes along with a small illustration of something that was going on in the larger illustration. Each new illustration had the children travelling to a new area with a particular theme. Themes I remember are a haunted house populated mostly by ghosts and poltergeists, a castle where monsters were preparing a ghoulish supper, and some kind of laboratory. At the end of the story, it turned out that the series of terrifying areas the siblings had traversed were in reality part of a horror theme park built by their uncle. I remember that on the back cover there was some information about the author coupled with a self portrait he had done, which included several small, flying demons annoying him and taking his pencils out of his pockets. Please help!

Jack Bunbury | 2 comments Thanks, but no, it wasn't a goosebumps. It was large and hardcover, like the where's waldo books. It was strictly large, complicated illustrations with only the side captions to move the narrative along.

Sesameseed | 1 comments I made an account just to answer this, because I had been looking for the exact same book and came across this page first before I ultimately found my answer. I believe you are looking for Haunted Castle by Leo Hartas.

Here are some scans (from the author/artist's own behance): https://www.behance.net/gallery/90038...

Here's a link to the Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789...

And to the yahoo answers page where I finally tracked it down: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...

I loved this book in fourth or fifth grade and will be buying a copy so that I can enjoy it again. I hope the art is as incredible as I remembered it! :)
