i've been looking for a ya detective book: the main character was a (redhead..at least on the cover illustration) who lived with her single mom (maybe in the city) who was an activist....I vaguely remember her hanging out on the roof and she could see a blinking chicken restaurant sign from her bedroom window (the plot of one of the mysteries, in which her mother was an activist) Knowledge about flowers had significance in her trip to Alaska, where the "criminal" was a woman who lived or worked in a solarium. she had a male best friend who was with her solving the mysteries. Her character is in the vain of encyclopedia brown and it is not Sammy Keyes.

Hi DanielleSomeone posted a similar request a while back (a girl sleuth spending time on roof). It turned out to be Sammy Keyes, which I see is not your book.

Do you remember how many years ago you read the book?
its none of those- i had actually checked that feed already....it was at least a decae ago so maybe around the late 90's early 2000
Do you remember what type of cases the girl tried to solve? Missing jewels, missing dogs, etc, or harder hitting things like murder?Also, about how old was the girl?
i think one was theft- it had something to do with a fried chicken fast food restaurant across the street from her apartment and the other one took place in Alaska. there was a botany club, and i think this was in the Alaska plot....I remember the venus fly trap being significant in this story. I don't remember her age at all but early teens probably.
I think you might be looking for the Stevie Diamond books by Linda Bailey. Stevie's best friend is Jesse, and the carnivorous plant plot takes place in Winnipeg in December, not Alaska (still lots of snow, though!)
