Your resident psycho. Kent’s beloved pain in the ass. The Southern’s rebels’ trigger-happy wildcard. Jung Seunghwa had been pretty much terrorising Central Kent’s alleyways for 7 years, ever since he stole drugs, got the shit beaten out of him, and still didn’t get the hint. He’s dabbled in almost every crime in the book — drug dealing, gambling, armed robbery, and, of course, homicide — and he has a thick file dedicated just to him sitting in Central Kent’s police department to show for it. He didn’t start out as a professional lawbreaker, obviously. He was just like he is now, a reckless kid who doesn’t know how to back down from a fight or how to lie fast enough, just that he didn’t have the Southern rebels covering his ass for him. But, to his credit, he learnt fast and he learnt well.
What that meant was: how you beat him up today will be how he beats up another tomorrow. The gangsters who knocked teeth out of him, the policemen who broke his arm, his father who left him bleeding in a ditch, his mother who beat him with a hot fire iron — they all taught him the not-so-delicate art of how to hit someone where it hurts. So if you’re wondering why he fights with zero consideration for technique, this is why: he’s never been trained to.
What he has been trained do includes perfecting the art of crude pub flirting and swimming through blood and guts without so much as blinking an eye. (Ok that might be an exaggeration, but let’s not assume there’s a limit to how far he’s willing to go to get the job done.) Ever since he was recruited by the Southern rebels, his devotion to their cause has never faltered once, mostly because he’s never been part of a cause before, and the emotional stability (of sorts) it has provided him is something he would not trade for anything. So that, and the very obvious thrill he derives from participating in bloody activities, has made him the go-to guy whenever the rebels find a job too sick, gross or dirty for the rest of them to willingly take on.
His tendency to commit violent crime is expected, considering his background. But he lacks more than just basic human decency. He lacks self-respect. Why else would he be so willing to throw himself at the lowliest of jobs? (Besides the fact that he’s pretty much addicted to violence, of course.) He has pride, he brags about his victories and jobs well-done, but that’s about all he has. He doesn’t know that children deserve more than a childhood full of abandonment, and that people like him deserve more than violent lives ending with premature deaths. All he knows is that he’s a smart part of a big cause, and even that is more than anything he could have asked for.

Hana’s life had been just fine. She graduated from high school as the top of her cohort and moved to Illéa with her father to study at its best university. Although her father had to sell his old business to afford moving to Illéa with her, she had everything she wanted. It didn’t matter that they couldn’t afford luxuries and she was probably one of the poorest in her class, she had a supportive father, the course of her choice and her dream university. She was happy. Until the Illéan authorities found out about her father’s handicap. They took away his caste four status and made him an eight. It ruined his business. Nobody wanted to work with an eight, no matter how capable he was. But Hana was fine with having to become the breadwinner. She was fine with juggling her studies with work. She was willing to do anything for her father. But nothing was enough.
Her father fell into a cycle of depression and a year later he committed suicide. It changed Hana. Her view of Illéa and it’s society was no longer one of admiration. She was filled with hate and a desire for revenge, and it overwhelmed her. She couldn’t go to class without wanting to burn the lecture theatre down, she couldn’t look at pictures of the royals without wanting to gut them, she couldn’t look at the Illéans around her, all doing nothing against the government, without wanting to scream, “Your silence did this! Your silence killed my father!” So she became a rebel. And being a chemistry genius, she became instantly known for her demolition work and cleaning up after the job.Whatever rage she’s feeling, she hides it pretty well. Hana usually gives off the impression of a laid-back, relaxed and self-assured person. And of course she’s confident, she’s very well aware how good she is at her job. The only thing that can mess with her calmness is dirt. She’s a clean freak. Which is just great, considering her job. But she’s obsessed with cleanliness. She can spend hours scrubbing surfaces or washing her hands. It’s something she tries to keep to herself, lest it ruin her reputation as a sane person, but the longer it goes unchecked the worse it gets. She’s convinced herself she’ll get over it on her own though.
