Elvenn | 5763 comments While trying to discover why two books of a series didn't appear to even belong to the same author, I found that only 216 of Jirō Akagawa's works have the standard or most common Roman listed as author and even less as the primary one. Many only appear under his name in kanji (赤川 次郎) or even under the Thai version of it (อาคากะวา จิโร) as primary. The issue seems to have caused the problem in the series (with all those books left out of them because the editions couldn't be combined).

Having this topic in mind and owing to the extent and complexity of the task (involving editions in Japanese, Malay and Thai), I decided to post the project here in case there's anyone interested in the puzzle or willing to offer advice on the best way to solve it.

Arenda | 26450 comments The Thai editions that had the Thai version of the author as primary author now all have Jirō Akagawa as primary author.

All editions that had the Japanese version of the author name as primary author now all have Jirō Akagawa as primary author.

All editions (unless there happen to be more author profiles in different languages/spelling) now have the same primary author Jirō Akagawa according to GR policy.

I can't read these languages and can't help with combining different translations or with the series.

Here are the various series by this author: https://www.goodreads.com/series/list...
His author page is cached, so the series are not yet showing on this profile.

Thanks for the prompt response. You've done a very thorough job! I've been trying to combine the different editions but the eastern languages have proved to be an insurmountable barrier, so I'm thinking about posting the task as a different project...

Como acá -> https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

In English: For authors that publish in multiple languages you have to add in all his works- as primary author- the most common Roman (English-language) version of the author's name, leaving the variant, in this case the name in kanji, as secondary author. That makes it possible for all the works to be combined.
