Help! I can't remember the title!

Please someone help me before I drive myself crazy! I'm trying to find a book I read in the late 90's. It's an historical romance set in medieval Scotland and England. The main male character is trying to avenge the death of his father by marrying the daughter of the man who killed him. The main characters mother was driven crazy because she had watched her husband get murdered. The main character knew the daughter and i think they had grown up together (the man who murdered his father took him away from his crazy mother and sent him somewhere to be trained as a knight, maybe?). The part I remember most vividly is where the main character and his friend are conducting a siege on a castle. If they can take the castle away from the lord who lives there the main guy can have it. (The castle is on the border). His friend feels a pull to the castle and thinks it's because he's going to die there. When the castle finally opens up the friend kills the lord but is then attacked by the lord's son. Turns out that the son is actually a daughter and she tried to kill the friend because she was angry that she hadn't been able to kill her father since he beat her and her mother. When the friend wakes up he falls in love with the girl, she was 14ish, and realizes that the pull wasn't his death but his true love. He marries the girl. That's just a small subplot of the novel. This is driving me crazy! I've been doing Google searches for a week and can't come up with anything.

could u pls help me to find a book , i dont remember much about the book except for storyline.
the book is old romance book maybe published in 1960 or 70 or 80( i suppose it to be harlequin) .
story outline sister & brother come to a farm & old mansion like house to claim their maternal grandparents inheritance .
Their mother marries a foreigner against her parents wish& leaves the place with her husband. Now neither the grandparents nor the parents exist . The old house is looked after by a housekeeper along with her son who wishes her son to inherit the house for housekeeping hut heirs return which makes her .
The hero is a rich neighbor who lives with his aunt & beautiful cousin. Helps the heroine with labor doing the farm job. horses are mentioned in the book , hero family rides them. hero is arrogant & mocking towards heroine, heroine full of pride.

heroine wears her mothers clothes. house keeper who was hateful towards heroine in the beginning softens after seeing her will to cope with farm. hero's cousin flirts withboth hero& heroin's brother .
