Elizabeth (Alaska) | 6773 comments Is it the policy that only those single issue comics with an ASIN or ISBN appear on GR?

What if an edition has neither, but other editions *do* have a qualifying number? Should those editions without the number be deleted?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 6773 comments Should I have put this in the questions folder?

Emy (emypt) | 5034 comments Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Should I have put this in the questions folder?"

It's a bit of both really,.. :/

To the question, AFAIK policy is still that individual comic editions are only acceptable if they were published with an ASIN or ISBN. If they have neither, and can't be considered an ACE, then they should be merged or deleted (with a merge as a preference).

Merge targets in order of preference
- same issue with ASIN or ISBN
- collected edition, e.g. Comics published with ISBN including this issue.

(I know you know some of this stuff already, but repeating it for anyone who comes along later and finds this thread).

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 6773 comments Thanks, Emy. I really needed clarification on those editions without the number. There are quite a few of them and they are the default editions with thousands - sometimes tens of thousands - of shelvings.

Which is preferable:

1. Post them in the thread for supers to merge
2. Create a new thread for them specifically
3. Write support to have staff do them

Emy (emypt) | 5034 comments David has been posting a lot in the supers-merge thread, and is now a Super himself. I suggest perhaps liaising with him directly? I'm not sure if there is a limit on merge-adds for us - I've not found it yet but that's not to say there isn't one!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 6773 comments I'll contact him. There may be as many as 100 editions that need to be merged. These are all individual/single issue comics.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 6773 comments Thanks again for chiming in Emy. Project is moving along!

David Raz (davidraz) | 4106 comments I'm happy to assist with sorting out whole series of them.
Either post here or in private.

I've queued the entire Saga yesterday, but from some reason it delays. Perhaps 1k+ shelvings merges take longer.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 6188 comments 1k? O.O bet that will be on here very soon again - seems like this comics task can be a neverending one.

But on topic:
I'm not into comics at all but doesn't that rule (which I appreciate in general) make the creation of proper series quite hard/incomplete?
There might be a lot of comic issues (and singles aren't that uncommon there I assume) without ISBN and the later ones now same singles but published as kindle too? That would make a quite incomplete series then?
(If I would read that issues an incomplete series would even bother me more than if there's none at all)
Or is it just possible to replace the singles without ASIN/ISBN with valid collections?

But that was just my non comic guy thought and I might be really wrong with it...

Congratulations on your promotion!

This example is very extreme, and definitely will need quite some time before it is merged. And also ones that were queued after that one are probably influenced and delayed, even when those editions don't have many shelvings.

David Raz (davidraz) | 4106 comments @Arenda thanks. I must have hit a protection barrier because none of them was actually merged. They can only be done one by one. I just realized 1k reviews is a very low estimate, this one has 49,708 reviews. I'm queueing it now, lets see how long it takes.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 6188 comments That's ...pretty much Deadpool O,O

Will be curious if that huge merge will go through and only thinking of the time a merge will probably take ... that will be a quite long project O,O - thanks that you're dealing with that!

at around 2am here the merge is really through (yes, I was watching and waiting :) congrats to that pretty huge one David)

While searching for something else I stumbled upon Dark Horse Presents which appears to be in the same category - comics without ISBNs

There are some duplicates under different authors: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...

David Raz (davidraz) | 4106 comments I added Dark Horse Presents to my backlog.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 6188 comments Hi David,
while on some initials I came across that author https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
These Green Lantern comics might have duplicates (the sinestro corps seems to have at least one, didn't check the others as I've no clue at all. so I left the books on that periodless initials untouched.
No idea if these isbnless ones are valid for GR at all but they need to be combined first not matter if valid or not.
If you've time to deal with them I'd be really happy because I've no idea and don't want to mess up

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 6188 comments Another one David https://www.goodreads.com/series/2222... these don't seem to have ISBN (at least not the first one I looked at) so perhaps there are duplicates existing with ASIN? or they might need to be deleted or merged into some collections or something like that?

message 21: by David (new)

David Raz (davidraz) | 4106 comments I'm looking into it

message 22: by David (new)

David Raz (davidraz) | 4106 comments #19: These are Eaglemoss Collections releases, a partworks release which does not have ISBN, but is certainly in book format. They usually have unique content so cannot be merged with anything else except the same released in other languages.
I merged identical releases and left a note so they wont be combined incorrectly.
If I ever do the single issues collection for these series, I'll make sure they are catalogued correctly.

message 23: by David (last edited Dec 19, 2017 06:50AM) (new)

David Raz (davidraz) | 4106 comments #20 no ISBN or ASIN so these don't belong in the Goodreads database. I merged issues #1-13 with the relevant collection and deleted issues #14-16 which were not collected. I also deleted the series.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 6188 comments Super, thanks a lot!

This was originally a policy thread, and having it become an issues thread is confusing. So I am closing this one, and if a new thread or threads are needed, adding one or both is fine.
