It's a bit of both really,.. :/
To the question, AFAIK policy is still that individual comic editions are only acceptable if they were published with an ASIN or ISBN. If they have neither, and can't be considered an ACE, then they should be merged or deleted (with a merge as a preference).
Merge targets in order of preference
- same issue with ASIN or ISBN
- collected edition, e.g. Comics published with ISBN including this issue.
(I know you know some of this stuff already, but repeating it for anyone who comes along later and finds this thread).

Which is preferable:
1. Post them in the thread for supers to merge
2. Create a new thread for them specifically
3. Write support to have staff do them

Either post here or in private.
I've queued the entire Saga yesterday, but from some reason it delays. Perhaps 1k+ shelvings merges take longer.

But on topic:
I'm not into comics at all but doesn't that rule (which I appreciate in general) make the creation of proper series quite hard/incomplete?
There might be a lot of comic issues (and singles aren't that uncommon there I assume) without ISBN and the later ones now same singles but published as kindle too? That would make a quite incomplete series then?
(If I would read that issues an incomplete series would even bother me more than if there's none at all)
Or is it just possible to replace the singles without ASIN/ISBN with valid collections?
But that was just my non comic guy thought and I might be really wrong with it...

Congratulations on your promotion!
This example is very extreme, and definitely will need quite some time before it is merged. And also ones that were queued after that one are probably influenced and delayed, even when those editions don't have many shelvings.

Will be curious if that huge merge will go through and only thinking of the time a merge will probably take ... that will be a quite long project O,O - thanks that you're dealing with that!
at around 2am here the merge is really through (yes, I was watching and waiting :) congrats to that pretty huge one David)

While searching for something else I stumbled upon Dark Horse Presents which appears to be in the same category - comics without ISBNs
There are some duplicates under different authors: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...

while on some initials I came across that author https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
These Green Lantern comics might have duplicates (the sinestro corps seems to have at least one, didn't check the others as I've no clue at all. so I left the books on that periodless initials untouched.
No idea if these isbnless ones are valid for GR at all but they need to be combined first not matter if valid or not.
If you've time to deal with them I'd be really happy because I've no idea and don't want to mess up

I merged identical releases and left a note so they wont be combined incorrectly.
If I ever do the single issues collection for these series, I'll make sure they are catalogued correctly.

This was originally a policy thread, and having it become an issues thread is confusing. So I am closing this one, and if a new thread or threads are needed, adding one or both is fine.

What if an edition has neither, but other editions *do* have a qualifying number? Should those editions without the number be deleted?
