Danielle (Danniegurl) (danniesreads) | 18 comments Hi everyone just a random question here, I recently added a book today, I pressed to add it to my tbrs and my sub shelves. When I went into my duplicate books section I had that very same book showing up 3x. Why is that? Is there a reason for it? I figure if I didn't actively add it 3x I am wondering how or why it did it and how it can be fixed? It's very difficult to delete the other duplicates because it changes the one left to read and unchecks a bunch of the other shelves I put it under. Or in another case one of the books I had read deleted the entire review and info. I'm not entirely sure if I should just leave them alone, but I hate having duplicates in my list....

So my questions to be clear are how/why does this happen? Did I do this or did GRs do this? Is there a way to prevent it in the future?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me.

Sandra | 31478 comments Danielle, it would be much easier for us to see what happened if you linked to the book in question.

If the book was merged correctly, you wouldn't have lost the review as merging shifts everything to another edition.

I am not a librarian, but is that possible? For me to do I mean?
One was Holding On (Lights of Peril, #1) by A.C. Bextor another was Waking the Beast (Awakening Pride, #1) by Lacey Thorn The Legacy of Kilkenny (Legacy of Kilkenny, #1) by Devyn Dawson that's all I can remember at the moment, I had 7.

Sandra | 31478 comments Nope only a librarian can combine or merge. Members can basically only create new editions.

OK I'll go check and see if I can figure it out.

Thanks, any idea why this happens even if you only add it once. I use the iPad mobile app and then I checked duplicates via the website and it showed one I had literally just added and I couldn't understand why. Thanks, sorry to bother you with it.

Sandra | 31478 comments None of those books are showing as duplicates at the moment. Have you already removed the dups?

As to why it does it, I have no clue. I certainly don't check for dups more than once every 6 months or so.

I did from my shelf I did.
I don't recall the last time I did it, but I had 7 this time around.

Sandra | 31478 comments If you've already removed them I can't check to see what's happened.

Perhaps don't use the mobile app to check for dups, just use the full site. If it happens again don't remove the books but post straight away so we can figure it out.

The mobile app doesn't tell me about dups, but I had added the book to my tbrs via the mobile app. And I'll do that next time, I'm sure I'll come across some more. Thanks for your help.
