I read this at least 10 years ago. I think it was set in the 60's. This boy was in first or second grade, the only black child in his class. One of his white classmates is nice, one is mean. The boy's dad is in jail, and the boy is worried about him. The class is having art class, and the boy draws his dad behind bars. His nice classmate asks to borrow a "skin-colored crayon." The boy makes his best guess as to what color his classmate means.
