I confirm my first impression: a real masterpiece! To be Red absolutely

Chrissie I have completed The Face of War by Martha Gellhorn, the famed war correspondent and third wife of Ernest Hemingway. I think everyone should read this book.

Diane (heatherluna) I wanna recommend The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen! It was a great book❤

message 2766: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I do not recommend A Well-Behaved Woman: A Novel of the Vanderbilts. It is a book that has recently come out. I dumped this after 6 excruciating chapters. I explain why in my very short review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1415 comments Finished Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi.
A very unusual book that explores multiple personalities within the same traumatized individual and blends it with Igbo folklore.

Chrissie I finished American Legends: The Life of Harriet Tubman. It is very short.

My very short review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I wish I had read Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman: Portrait of an American Hero instead. This I will read soon.

Paul (paa00a) | 202 comments Two novels I finished this month, plus a doorstop of a biography I've been reading off and on since May and finally wrapped up. All of them a little disappointing, though. :-/

The Color of Magic (Discworld, #1) by Terry Pratchett The Color of Magic
★★★☆☆ Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager The Last Time I Lied

Kathleen | 401 comments Here's one well worth trying: Austerlitz, by W.G. Sebald. It's a holocaust story told in very unusual fictional prose that can be difficult but also haunting and mesmerizing. A unique one for sure. I gave it 4 stars and a promise to re-read.

Paul,
Just a quick note to say thank you for mentioning Phyllis Trible's book. I love her work but wasn't aware of this book. I just finished reading it. Brilliant analysis and scholarship.
I recommend it to anyone interested in the portrayal of women in religious texts.

dely | 5214 comments Finally I've finished The Novel Cure: From Abandonment to Zestlessness: 751 Books to Cure What Ails You! After 4 years! It means that I finished the book, but not my challenge to read all the books listed in my review, those that should "heal" me. I hope someday to read them, but several are out of print or difficult to find.

Btw, the book deserves only a 2* rating from my side because it was really too long and after a while it got boring though here and there it's funny.

Only Italian review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

From my last message I've read also other books, but seen that they don't have an English translation, and I hadn't a lot of time, I didn't add them in this discussion.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments News Flash: My 12+ month reading slump might be over. Yesterday I picked up my sister's copy of The Peacock Summer and started reading! Read just of 200 pages while 'babysitting' the puppy in the backyard in the sunshine.

message 2784: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments I am thrilled, Angela. I aim to finish the book today. It is very light fiction so is easy to read. I doubt there will be a review as at this stage, it's enough for me that I am actually reading. I have about eight new releases sitting on my coffee table waiting to be read.
