Petra | 3324 comments I listened to the audio of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew and have to say that I was taken aback a bit at the subject matter. I was expecting more of a comedy and no abuse. It may have been the audio version that made this play seem so harsh. I hope so.

Leslie | 16369 comments I finished my library's "blind date with a book". The book was One Plus One by Jojo Moyes, an author I have heard a lot about but hadn't read before.

Here are my thoughts about it: A charming contemporary romance. This is a heart-warming story with a feel good ending that I relished reading. However, as much as I enjoyed it, I predict that it will be like Chinese food -- quickly digested and leaving me craving something more substantial.

It was a good book to read for Valentine's Day but overall I give it 3.5*

You should at least say how many stars you gave it. Elsewhere you said two. I really had t think hard to force it up to three.

I will make sure to do that in future. Unfortunately for me, the book was forgettable, it wasn't bad while I was reading but when I finished, I strugged to remember what I had just read. The plotline and characters just didn't stay with me at all.

Oh then I do understand! So forgettable you even forgot how you rated it. I was curious b/c I had trouble with the book too. Did you read it to the end? It does improve.

I certainly thought it did improve. If it wasn't for the ending, I would have given it one star.

I have been considering that one too.

Petra | 3324 comments I finished The Half Sisters by Geraldine Jewsbury.
I think it must have been a radical book in 1848. It looks at better education, job opportunities and independence for women.

Finished My Week With Marilyn by Colin Clark early this morning; I enjoyed it, but I only gave it three stars because I found the narrator to be quite confusing. It felt like most of the book was written from memory many years later so I feel like I can't entirely trust it. Although I only picked it because I needed a book that was turned into a television series or movie for one of personal challenge. I also finished 1066: History in an Hour by Kaye Jones, as a history student, I love these introductory books that offer a quick overview on the chosen topic without requiring too much time or effort of the reader.
