Leaves of Grass is the first book of poetry I read for myself (not for a class) and although I persevered and finished it, it was years before I tried any other poetry!

Yes, I've heard that the Barchester books are the best ones. I will probably like them better because they won't have so many political scenes in them (I hope).

Personally, I prefer the Barchester series - there are church politics but that is a different kettle of fish.
But Trollope is rarely tedious so I hope that you enjoy your time with the Pallisers!
Joan let me know how you like the book by Mary Doira Russell. I loved The Sparrow and may be interested in reading other books by her.
I prefer the Palliser series for the history - corn laws, Disraeli !My husband prefers Barchester - he says it is calmer.
We’ve both enjoyed his stand-alone novels and his non-fiction “Traveling Sketches”.

He certainly wrote a lot of stand alone books! I have only read a handful of them but am planning on reading more. Do you have any favorites to recommend Joan?
Currently reading two books
The Guest List by Lucy Foley and
The Memory Wood by Sam Lloyd (both excellent reads) after finishing
Only Lies Remain by Val Collins. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and my webpage sandysbookaday.wordpress.com

Christine, since you're so active in this thread. I was wondering if you would like your own thread in the 2020 reads and personal challenges. You can do whatever you wish with it.

Reading books by Octavia Butler. Made it through 3 Series (Patternmaster Series, Earthseed Series, Xenogenesis Series). So interesting, unlike anything I've read before. Reading 2 more (Bloodchild and Other Stories and Kindred) before moving on.

I side your husband, even if I've loved also his Pallesers!

I am currently reading Big Lie in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain. I have been reading this author since 1992 when I came upon a book in the library by Ms. Chamberlain. At this time, I have read all of her books and wait patiently for her next title.
Nancy from NJ I put that book called Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain on my birthday list
I'm listening to The Dutch House for the group read in here, and reading The Fountainhead. Enjoying them quite a lot
Just started
The Orphan House by Ann Bennett after finishing
Truths I Never Told You by Kelly Rimmer, the first time I have read this author. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
About to begin
Night Train to Murder by Simon R. Green after finishing the lovely
The Orphan House by Ann Bennett. My spoiler free review can be found at https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/... and https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just about to start The Cuckoo’s Calling and Where The Crawdads Sing - one to read on my lunch breaks and one for at home
Fantasy... Just read first book of The Legends of the First Empire series... Age of Swords by Michael J Sullivan. 4.5 stars. Just started 2nd book... Age of Swords.
I don’t really care for The Woman in the Window. Too confusing at the beginning and I already imagine the ending.
I forgot to add that I am reading The Pawnbroker by Edward Lewis Wallant. This book takes place after the Holocaust when this main character survives. It is about how this man managed his life when he was liberated from Bergen Belsen.
Just finished a disappointing locked room mystery
Night Train to Murder by Simon R. Green which i hope is just a blip in an otherwise excellent series. My spoiler free review can be found at https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/... and https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I am about to begin

I’m feeling defeated by Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. This is my first time reading his poetry but he is a Long Island hero and that’s where I live now.
