After a really nice week end in Milan, whare I've seen the Pinacoteca of Prera - with masterpieces as Raffaello, Caravaggio, Canova - the Cenacolo (The Last Supper bu Leonardo - to be seen at least once before your death), Pavia, the city where my father was borne and the Milan Cathedral, roof incleded!, I'm back home working in front of my pc.
Sig!!!!

Leslie | 16369 comments Glad to hear that you had a good time in Milan, Laura!! I really need to renew my passport so I can come see these things in person and, of course, meet you :-)

I have been watching a lot of old TV shows as a 'palate cleanser' from the awful reality of American politics these days.

Tweedledum (tweedledum) | 2166 comments Ha just been reading about visiting Italy in The Importance of Being Seven! Made me more keen to go than ever.

But right now, what with being made redundant, having to move back to Leeds from Essex on the eve of the COVID pandemic and shielding diabetic I have even resorted to experimenting with cooking acorns since I had an enormous covering in the back garden from neighbour’s tree.

Ruth | 755 comments Tested positive for Covid. I am alright other than being really fatigued and having off and on fever. I'm just really upset that we managed to keep our residents safe for 7 months and as of this week we have 8 residents and as many staff that have tested positive.. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing. the only upside is that I'll have time to read (if I can stay awake long enough). Stay safe everyone.

So sorry you tested positive. Hope you stay well and get lots of rest. We're heading into another lockdown here this week so I am taping romcoms and Christmas movies.

Esther (eshchory) | 1368 comments I feel like I am just surfacing from under a pile of work.

I was on holiday last week and my colleagues who covered for me did as little as humanly impossible. Of the things they actually did one was completely unnecessary and another had to be completely cancelled and redone, due to someone else's mistake.
This was in addition to the usual rush 'closing the month' and the fact that the trader I work with closed a whole slew of deals just before the weekend so I had to sort all them out too.
After two hectic days I am taking a breather and looking forward to celebrating my son's birthday this evening.
My daughter was here over the weekend so we had a fancy meal on Friday and a BBQ on Saturday. Tonight, at my son's request, my husband is making his speciality - toasted cheese sandwiches.

I hope it all works out for you :) ! While I am happy that I can go in and pick up my library holds checked out and in a bag, I miss being able to actually go into the library and browse the shelves, etc.

One of the problems I am seeing is that people don't understand that you don't only need to wear a mask when someone enters the room because you are breathing out germs all of the time. There is a security guard and the main maintenance man who stay near the entrance of the Library where we go to pick up our books and they only put their masks on when they see you coming to the door. Also, people who don't realize that you breathe germs out of your nose and not just your mouth!

True tale. I was walking and wearing a mask for pollen and mould spore protection (I didn't need one otherwise since this wasn't where other people were around) and some young man hollered out of the car window, "Everybody dies! Take off your mask!"

Even though I personally am not worried about getting it I wear a mask in public and wear it correctly because even though I am not worried for myself, it doesn't mean I couldn't get it, nor does it mean mean I couldn't be carrying it but asymptomatic, and even if I knew I was 100 percent immune I would still wear it for other people's comfort!

Oh no, that's so sad. Are you able to borrow e-books from your libraries online?

Yes, and I actually do not NEED more books: I've more than what I need at home; it's sad I can't go there

I like when our reopen plan let us put holds and then pick up books at the door. With our cases increasing, I’m less a fan of needing to go in to get my books. With Goodreads, I can supply us without the browsing.

Yes, we can either pick up our books at the door or walk into a desk not far away and pick them up off a table in a bag with our name on it.
