Off to ice skating with Dylan and my brother! Ice skating in Arizona, go figure. :)

Diane S ☔ It's so hot here, ice skating sounds like a fabulous activity. Nice to hear from you, Greg. You were missed...

5:29 in the Midwest. Heat wave continues and will one Shaina be housebound in the AC. Lots of reading time if nothing else.

Lol, I had to read it twice to be sure I read it correctly :D I hope you will have a lot of fun.

Finally I have again 5 minutes to peek in. I've been very busy with work. But this afternoon I need some rest. I will continue tomorrow because there is still a lot to do.
I also need to "stalk" my son on Facebook and now also Instagram (argh!) because he is again travelling around the world. I have been obliged to create also a fake account on Instagram to be able to see pics.
I was also organizing to go to him, to arrive in Amsterdam the same day he arrives (middle of August) so we can stay a few days there and then we go together to the city he lives. I told him about it, but he said he doesn't like the idea. I'm sure that a couple of days after his arrival he will ask me "Well, mother, when will you come?". The flight had also a good price and seen that he will arrive nearly at midnight, he could have sleep out there in a hotel instead of doing a couple of hours with the train to go home.
I really don't understand why he didn't like me idea :-(

Tomorrow morning I drive back to California, but it was a great trip this weekend!

Earlier today I taught Dylan some computer programming stuff in preparation for his class next semester. And we all went for a long walk at dusk (my mom, sister, brother, and Dylan).

My daughter still has the occasional bout of 'not doing that because Mum suggested it' but she is gradually - very gradually - growing out of it.

Struggling to keep up with my work, my readings, my life!!!!
Marta is doing well: her plates are now of a "nice" number - and even if she's still taking cortisone, the dose is low.
She is also having her final exam - more or less something like A levels in England, and dhe's doing really well: her entry marks were great (9.73/10.00) and hwe written texts were 15/15 Italian composition, 15/15 Mathematics, 14/15 for general culture test.
Next Monday her oral examination - and Tuesday new blood count)

No ice skating here just sweltering in heat and humidity. Granted it’s only In the low 30’s Celsius for a few days, but I’m whining anyway.

On the drive back home to California - the brittlebrush is long past bloom-time, but it's still a gorgeous day!

message 820: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) Greg- Ice skating in the summer sounds great! When I lived in AZ in the ‘70s we used to skate at Metro Center in Phoenix. I don’t think the rink is still there but it was the best!

I’m starting a 90-day weight loss challenge tonight at our Multi-Generational Canter. I’m excited since I really need some motivation! I’ve got 20-25 lbs to lose, so it’s doable. It’s going to be hard going to our friend’s 4th of July party. He always has amazing desserts! Have to just say no. The struggle is real!

Haha, the lawn might be too bumpy for skating! :) We used to skate in the frozen-over vegetable patch in our backyard in Illinois in winter when I was a wee lad, but it was so bumpy it was hard to stay standing!

Hope you're getting some warm-time indoors!

My daughter is 21 and just finishing her military service.
She refused to prepare for military service because I had suggested it - exclaiming ' I am not like you, I don't want to be a warrior' even though I was suggesting she aim for 'sports' teacher'.
When she landed in a dead-end job she refused our advice but did at least consult her friends and ended up volunteering for one of the top gender-mixed combat units.
It would have been my dream if it had existed when I served so it turns out we are more alike than either of us suspected!

But she still feels the need to prove her independence.
If she is anything like me she'll get over it onces she moves away from home.

dely | 5214 comments For now I won't book anything to go to my son. I will wait for him to tell him when I should go. Lol, knowing him I already know that I won't find anymore a good price. And he will tell me something when he will be again back in the Netherlands. Now he is too busy and hasn't time for his old mother and her questions :D

Greg, thanks for sharing the pics! I love watching them!

Laura, congratulations to your daughter. Very good scores! My nephew has his oral exam tomorrow but no one cares a lot, lol. It is already a wonder he managed to arrive till the last year and it will be a wonder if he passes the exam. Whatever score he will take is ok, the important thing is that he finishes with school.

I try to enjoy what I can, but I'm that kind of person that lives day by day and is happy also with nothing.
But yesterday evening I went to a kind of African dinner and after dinner there was a small and "interactive" theater play performed by young asylum seekers. It was nice and though they aren't actors, it was so touching to see how moved and excited they were to perform in front of an audience. The interesting thing is that they performed real everyday life situations they lived at least once since arriving in Italy. It was thought provoking for us and it's because of this that it was "interactive": whoever of the audience could stand up and change something in the story that was performed. So also common people could go and perform changing maybe the ending or things like this.

Happy 4th of July to everyone in the US!

Is anyone doing anything fun?

I'm supposed to go to Ron's parents' house for a cookout and fireworks watching, but last night I had my first symptoms of a cold. I don't want to expose his elderly parents to anything; so I might stay home depending on how I feel.

Diane (lemonsky) Our neighbors are setting off fireworks. Fortunately, our cats are choosing to ignore the noise.

My father and brothers had steak for supper, but cooked them inside. We have a grill, but we don't use it any more. I don't like beef, so I just fixed a pizza and then cooked some chocolate chip cookies.

Diane, pizza and cookies sounds good to me. :) One of my cats used to hide under the bed on the 4th, but some of my friends with dogs have a much worse time ... I know some that actually give their dogs sedation pills on the 4th!

Hope you had a great time at your niece's house Angela!

Luckily I slept late and was able to fight off the cold enough to go over to Ron's parents by mid-afternoon - had food and later enjoyed the neighborhood fireworks.

It's funny how crazy his parents' neighborhood goes on the 4th ... hundreds of people shooting off fireworks everywhere in the street! It used to make me nervous all the kids running around with butane torches setting things off, but somehow no-one seems to get hurt; so now I enjoy it. The atmosphere is so festive!

Greg, glad you felt well enough to attend the festivities. Angela, hope you had a wonderful time. Our fireworks were cancelled due to incoming storms with lightening. Karin We had a very quiet 4th. My middle daughter left early and spent the day with her boyfriend (shocking, I know, for a 20 year old). My eldest went somewhere for free wifi (no wifi here as it give me a mild headache and we're not keen on our kids being addicted to their devices). We got take out food because of the heat. My husband had a few things to do on his day off.

My husband and I are both over 50, so perhaps that's why, but our kids aren't all big party-goers, either. My middle daughter and her boyfriend went swimming and then they went to dinner at his grandparents. My kids don't take after me at those ages--I'd have been seeking fireworks for Canada Day on July 1 and would have had fun with my friends.
