2018 Group Bookshelf Reading Calendar
It's funny that Watership Down is near the top, whereas it was so low that its vote total wasn't even shown in the last poll's graphic at Google. I read it earlier this month. If I had known of the coming Netflix adaptation and renewed group interest, I would have held off a little longer. Oh, well, it will still be relatively fresh in my mind.

If things don’t completely blow up at work, I’ll likely be finished with WoT by the end of the weekend and start Fahrenheit 451 by Monday at the latest. I just picked it up from the library today. I’ll read Good Omens after that. As far as the new round of voting goes, there are 5 books I voted for in the 6-9 votes range, and another 4 that have 5 votes.
For the Eye of the World voters, there’s a side read planned for it in late April as per this post, in case people weren’t aware. I’m looking forward to watching the discussions about it so, as far as I’m concerned, I’d be happy to see it discussed twice this year. :)
With only a week to go, we have only 31 responses, compared to 100+ for the last one. Maybe the problem is that the link is in the middle of a thread, or promoting the vote needs a boost.
I can't think of anything I did differently last time. I know that at the end of the year people are much more eager to sign up for challenges.
Well I for one can’t remember my Google log in. I like it better when it’s on Goodreads. That’s why I’m not voting.
I didn't vote last time either because of the necessary Google login... I don't like to give Google any more information than is absolutely necessary, including connecting my Goodreads activity to any Google activity. Call me paranoid, but my husband has a degree in CS, and just shakes his head at end-user carelessness, so I try to keep some boundaries intact.
Goodreads doesn't have any method that works this way. I'm open to ideas if you guys can think of some other way of tracking that isn't hugely time consuming.

Ha- Voting is easy for me as I have a gmail account so they already know everything about me whether I want them to or not. May as well get some benefits!
Sarah Anne wrote: "I can't think of anything I did differently last time. Maybe each half-year having its own topic/announcement to bring more attention would help?
The way it was now, without looking in, might be just continuing discussion no hint anther poll is already there.
I did edit the first part to say voting was open and I moved the link up top. Maybe we could try new threads for each half.
Oh my gosh, the list to vote on is sooooooooo long! Is there any way to whittle it down? How many are we supposed to vote for?
Allison wrote: "I'll make sure the April newsletter has a reminder to vote, too."Thanks Allison, that should help!
Michele wrote: "Oh my gosh, the list to vote on is sooooooooo long! Is there any way to whittle it down? How many are we supposed to vote for?"In case you didn’t notice, some of the books are listed as ineligible based on how recently the group last had a scheduled read for them. This is to keep us from reading the same books over and over. So that’s at least a few less you have to decide on. :)
hi I'm new to the group and to gr, so I realise I could be getting a bit lost and confused due to those factors, but .....
I've followed the 'vote here' links from a couple of different spots, but the message at the top of the books list refers to books intending to be read in the 'first half' of 2018 ...... I wondered if that meant there is another list for the second half??
I'll go and vote there, now, assuming it may just be same list for whole year and I AM going the the right place
any confirmation or clarification of this would be welcome
cheers :)
There was an earlier vote in December 2017. The Google form was reset, and the link for the current vote is the same. So if you followed the link in the first post, you should be fine.

Yay~ really hoping Eye of the World wins :)I remember reading the first one when I was like, 14 (?) and it was too much for me to finish it (too easily distracted as a teen) but what I remember of it, I really liked!
Either way, this list has some awesome titles.
We're at 62 responses. I'm planning on closing the votes on the 15th.

If I can ask, does it work so that you pick one SF and one fantasy for each month (so 6 + 6 for half-year)? And if yes, for future, could it be better to split the polls to SF one and Fantasy one so they are easier to navigate?
Here are April's threads! The Man in the High Castle

"Man in the High..." The Ending *Spoilers*
The Fifth Season
"The Fifth Season" First Thoughts *No Spoilers*

Voting is closed and I'm working on the schedule. We have some really big ones this time so the average page count is 526 pages per book. Yikes.

1Q84 (925) - July 15

The Name of the Wind (662) - Aug 15
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (382) - Aug 15
The Eye of the World (814) - Sept 15
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (306) - Sept 15
Children of Time (600) - Oct 15
The Eyre Affair (374) - Oct 15
The Lies of Locke Lamora (722) - Nov 15
The Neverending Story (396) - Nov 15
Consider Phlebas (471) - Dec 15
Broken Monsters (464) - Dec 15
Thanks, Sarah!I will be in for The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Children of Time. My library has The Neverending Story, so maybe I will fit that in too.
P.S. It's a sausage party! I can just imagine Lauren Beukes edging toward the door. Or maybe she would hold court and mesmerize them all. Of course, some of them are dead too, so ... zombies.
Thanks Sarah Anne for coordinating this and putting the schedule together!I had 5 books win, one in every month except September, so I have a lot to look forward to. :) I didn’t vote for it, but I may also join in on Annihilation in July. It’s a really short trilogy, I already own the first book, and the timing will probably work out well.
I didn’t realize 1Q84 was almost a thousand pages...Guess I’ll go get started. Lol.
Actually though- can’t wait. I’m hoping to join in on most of these even though I’ve yet to join in on this year’s group re-reads.
The Name of the Wind and The Lies of Locke Lamora are both on my TBR, but considering how slowly are the sequels coming I don't know if I'll take up reading them. For some reason I have to wonder how good it might be by the end, when the author needed 7+ years to write it (Rothfuss) or announce it as 7-book series while the fourth is still on the way (Lynch).Guess I'll decide based on how my mood is when the date comes...
Anyway, cheers to everyone who participated in the vote.
I will read Eye of the World early. My school's library was getting rid of their Wheel of Time book set, so I snatched up of for free. I have it set aside as my summer reading project.
