I've never read Beowulf. I did watch the animated movie, but I don't really remember the plot. So I found the start slow/confusing.
I ended up looking up some details mid story and that really helped me. I probably could have skipped that however.
I really liked the twist about why Beowulf abandoned the sword, and the way the grandson handled retrieving the sword. I thought it had a nice moral, that both he and his dad seemed to learn.
