Another warm day here, even though it is quite cloudy.
I'm glad that we managed to get all the important things sorted this morning while it was still relatively cool.
Now it 's just a question of popping out into the garden occasionally to check on the laundry :)

Forewarned is forearmed - I've just taken the batteries out of her Taser!

Thanks for the heads-up, suzy :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments YAYYY!!! - Dad's Tomtato Plants have arrived at last ;o>

I was starting to think that I might have brace myself to Email the Nursery to ask them (very gently and politely, of course) when they might possibly be being dispatched. They were originally estimated as coming around the middle of April, which I thought sounded to be a bit early, and so I was guessing more at it being mid May and wasn't at all surprised when I checked and found the Date revised first to early May and then to mid May.

However, when I checked the Website again last week, the Tomtatoes were showing as being sold out and it is now offering up the chance to Pre-order for 2020 - so I was wondering if my Pre-order for this year had possibly been forgotten or overlooked by mistake.

My Account though indicated that someone had done an 'update' on my Order on the 14th of May - and so I was then wondering if it was pending a Dispatch or whether they had already been dispatched without any notice and then got lost in the Postal System?

I pre-ordered them back in February as they seem to be the only place in the UK that still creates the grafted Plants and sells them on. There were similar delays the first time that I ordered from them last year and I had to Email to enquire when they might arrive and got rather surprised by a couple of quite un-necessary slightly snippy and rather defensive responses in return.

I could easily have taken some offence (not least at all of the !!!! that punctuated almost every Line) and got wound up and a bit snotty back at her - but, after Googling around various Review Sites, I soon discovered that I had actually got off very lightly indeed for ever daring to contact Customer Services. It appears that Serena has built up quite an unfortunate and business damaging reputation for not being much of a 'people person'.

I was very careful to stay extra polite and friendly and ignore any potential for argument and my Plants finally arrived two months late with only just the one damaged that, with extra care, survived nevertheless.

This time around, I decided to wait it out, and give them until the end of May before making any enquiries - and then yesterday I got a Dispatch Confirmation Email and today they arrived.

They all look fresh, sturdy and strong healthy Plants ... however, while two definitely look to be Tomtato Plants, the third Plant looks to be quite different?! Smaller, darker and rounded leaves that M&D have been scratching their Heads over trying to identify. It might be the Graft that is creating such differences? - we honestly don't know for sure what it could be.

You may remember that last year we also had an odd Plant out of the three - one that produced massive mutant Pepper-sized and shaped Fruits that did still turn out to be extremely delicious Tomatoes when they were fully ripened and cut open ;o>

We will have more than enough of a Tomato crop so it doesn't bother us at all if this turns out to be something else ... and I definitely won't be risking bothering Serena by Email to try and query it with her either - LOL!!! ;o>

Maybe it's a Triffid that you can send back to Serena :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Oooh? ... I get the distinct feeling that a Triffid wouldn't dare approach Serena either! ;o>

It's a great shame really though, isn't it? Customers can be persistently annoying and sadly there will always seemingly be some who will deliberately use Feedback and Review Sites just to pick away at such minor faults, and be nasty with it, if they can.

Reading this Nursery's Reviews though - and having personally experienced such unexpected indignation in return for very courteously enquiring if Dispatch would be any time soon so that we could be sure to be ready for it - it sounds like if she keeps this awful and arrogant attitude up any longer she will destroy their whole family Business.

I went on Facebook to see if there was any mention in their latest Posts of the Tomtato Plants being ready and one of her last Posts is a complete mini-meltdown rant over not being able to get anyone interested in working for them for the minimum wage. And I can't help but think that we might all know the reason why this might be - and that it's not just the money that could be the issue as to why?! ;oO

They really do need to think very seriously about hiring someone with far more tolerance, and patience, and much better people skills when dealing with their Customers for a start.

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments A Joke I just came across ;o> ...

A man was riding his Harley along a California Highway when, suddenly, the sky cleared above his head and in a booming voice, the Lord said: "Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways I will grant you one wish"

The biker pulled over and said: "Fantastic! - can you build a Bridge to Hawaii so that I can ride over anytime I want?"

The Lord said: "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific, and the amount of concrete and the steel that it would take?!! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is extremely hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help to benefit all of Mankind"

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said: "Lord, I wish that I and all Men could understand Women; I want to know why I get the silent treatment? ... why she says nothing's wrong when it's obvious that there is? ... why she gets snappy when I offer to help? ... and how I can truly make a Woman really happy"

And, without any hesitation, the Lord replied . . .

"Do you want two Lanes or four Lanes on that Bridge?"

;o> ... ;o> ... ;o>

If I make it to the polling station tomorrow it will definitely be SDP.
I didn't vote in the referendumb and am still unconvinced as there is too much disinformation for me to reach a conclusion for either side. I just can't bring myself to vote with the Brexiteers though, a complete bunch of rich tossers who, even if we leave will float unconcerned above any detrimental fallout while the rest of us sink.
Whatever the result tomorrow nothing will change anyway, the quagmire of chaos will stagger blindly on, the pundits will continue to regurgitate the endless flood of what ifs as clueless as the rest of us until the twelfth of never.

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments It's certainly been a very good year for the Woodlice around here!

Every time I go into the Garage to use the Washer, or the Dryer, or to get something out of the Freezer, I always make sure I turn all the Lights on before stepping inside as there are gazillions of little bugg ... ERR ... creatures all busy trundling around out there.

I can't bear the thought of treading on one of them by accident or the idea either of all of those tiny little Eyes in the dark silently watching my every move and so every one of the three Lights gets put on so that I can see my way! - LOL!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Mitz has started opening the Dog Gate, sneaking up the Stairs, pushing my Door open, creeping in, and then excitedly scuttling all around my Room until I say "Oooh? - hello naughty girl!" before coming alongside the Bed so that I can reach out and give her a kiss and a cuddle ;o>

She doesn't want to go out for a piddle? - she just wants love - and gets all thrilled and is so very proud of herself and her new trick of getting the Gate open every night - LOL!

She then runs into M&Ds afterwards and Mum gets up and walks her back downstairs - as coming up is all fine and fun but she won't even consider squeezing herself back through the gap in the Gate on the way down again and prefers instead to sit on the Stairs and cry and cry until someone gets up and fully opens the Gate for her!

Then she quite happily snuggles down in her Bed and drops off asleep again within just a minute or two. Well, it IS only 4 - 5am in the morning, you know?!! ;o>

message 4568: by [deleted user] (new)

We use a doorstop to keep the bedroom door open far enough for Phoebe to come and go as she pleases. If the door is closed she just scratches at the door and meows, quite loudly, until the door is opened.
Obviously, as soon as the door is opened, she doesn't want to come in then, instead choosing to just sit there quietly peering through the gap :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments We are feeling a bit bemused today in trying to decide what to do about Tia with regards to her Vaccinations. She wasn't ever expected to live this long and the general advice seems to be to not to vaccinate Animals with terminal conditions as it may be too much for them in their vulnerable state and could potentially exacerbate their ongoing illness?

But if we don't vaccinate then we put her at risk every time that she still manages to go a walk in a public place and she could possibly be at risk just in being out in our Back Garden due to the Wildlife that regularly passes through it, such as the family of Foxes that spend most of the year living in the Back Garden next-door, and the odd Badger that occasionally wanders in and out.

It's a situation we never envisaged when she was first diagnosed in late October last year and wasn't expected by anyone to make it for more than a few weeks at most and certainly not to make it to Christmas! ... we really have been SO incredibly blessed with our darling little girl still very much being with us as we head into June.

I'm currently trying not to pin all of my hopes and dreams on her also making it to my Birthday on the 8th ... but? ... every day is a bonus, such a precious gift, and she is still doing SO well that it feels like anything with Tia could be possible ;o>

message 4570: by [deleted user] (new)

I certainly don't envy you trying to come to a decision about whether or not to give Tia her vaccination.

As for your Birthday - are you starting to drop subtle hints? :)

message 4571: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Mitz is also due hers and so she is a part of the dilemma as well - if we get her vaccinated, and not Tia, will it also somehow affect Tia as an unvaccinated little hairy woofer to be living in such close proximity to her? The Vets have had several discussions on this amongst themselves this week and we have got Appointments booked for both Mitz and Tia tomorrow morning when the decision will be discussed and then agreed upon by us all.

Mum is already suggesting that we don't take Tia in and put her through her usual hysterics whenever she goes to the Vets - but I'm not so sure yet and want to wait on the Vet's advice first. The other issue is that my Mum is a renown expert in arts of prevarication and persuasion however I'm not going to let the final decision be hers and hers alone on this one. For me, it has to be a joint decision, and to be the right decision for Tia first and foremost.

Birthday? - no! I always get Cards but haven't had a gift off M&D for Birthdays or Christmas in years now. They don't ever know what to buy me and I don't really want or need anything either so I just get Cards and treated to a Takeaway. The Cake and Flowers that they bought me last year were because it was my 50th. It is me that always arranges all of the special plans and does all the carefully thought out special gift buying in our family ;o>

message 4572: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I've just realised that makes my M&D sound rather mean and selfish? - and they genuinely aren't really. They gave me back the money that I paid out on eBay for my new (and as yet still unused but safely stored away) Laptop last September as a late Birthday and early Christmas present - and if I said to them that I really want this, or that, then they would very likely go straight out and buy it for me.

I'm just not that kind of a person though ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Well, it's been decided that none of us are voting today as my Mum says ... what's the point of voting for MEPs now? - we might as well just tolerate the ones that we already have in office than try to vote in anyone new? ... and, put like that, I can only agree with her that it does seem to be a total waste of time and of money too in bothering with this particular Election.

But you won't have the ones who are already in office: their term ends in July. You'll have Nigel Farage's stooges who get elected because so many people who don't support them didn't bother to vote. Even if we leave the EU by October as "planned" (not a word that can ever be used accurately with regards to anything this excuse for a government does), the Brexit Party's gaining a majority of UK MEPs will be used by the far right as justification for further intimidation of lawful migrants, conspiracy to murder Labour MPs, etc.

In fairness, he is capable of doing any task around the house when he chooses to, which normally means he's after something!
The rest of the time, he knows that someone else will tidy up after him, because we're not messy people.
Most infuriating is when he does his laundry at midnight and puts it straight into the tumble dryer, especially given the great weather we're having at the moment - no need!!

Cute :)

I've been watching a couple of fledgling Starlings chasing their parents round the garden demanding to be fed. It's quite amusing watching them trying to get onto the suet ball feeder - one of them ended up on the washing line swinging and swaying with wings flapping. I thought the poor sod was going to end up hanging upside down like a bat! :)

We have queues here for the Bird-bath, then a particular empty patch of the Flowerbed nearby for a Soil-bath, often followed on by a quick splash in the Bird-bath again! ... so it's no wonder that what little Water there is still in it is always so dirty every time that I come to tip it all out and refill it ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments It was just SO wonderful taking Tia to see the Vet today ;o>

... not all the hysterics, the non-stop yelping and barking, and the threatening to bite poor Gabe if he came anywhere near her, obviously! ... but to see the delight and the amazement on his Face when he saw her and checked her over.

He managed to weigh her, and all of my extra little daily Treats have paid off, because she is back up to her heaviest weight of 15kg once again! And he really admired her beautiful silky Coat and just how full of life and vitality she is.

The decision has been made not to vaccinate her at the moment but to review the possibility of doing so again in six months time! It was half said in jest but he says that she has amazed them all and excelled all previous expections of her demise being imminent and so who knows?! - she may possibly even make it to that Appointment yet?!! - LOL!!! ;o>

We see her through our own Eyes every day - but seeing her through the stunned and delighted Eyes of someone else, and a highly qualified and experienced Veterinary Surgeon at that - was such a wonderful moment for us all. She barked and behaved so appallingly and even peed on his nice clean Floor in a dirty protest at being taken there ... and we all just laughed and left feeling even more so incredibly thankful that she is still here with us ;o>

In our garden, it tends to be the Sparrows that like a dust bath in the flower bed as, when I fill up the bird bath it is too deep for them to have a splash so they either wait until the bigger birds have been in or they gather round the edge and end up getting a shower!
As soon as the bath is shallow enough they will pile in en masse and splash the remaining water out :)
