Well, Paul, let's see... did you see ITV News at Ten last night where 20 mins in a fire alarm went off in the building and the presenter (first time ever it is believed) had to admit he hadn't a clue what to do but guessed they were going to have to clear the building so curtailed the live broadcast to a hastily prepared advisory notice.

Yes, Paul, I did see that, strangely.

Er, before I post another snail pik for my own amusement, is anybody out there, there, there?

Martin O' | 2196 comments I was last time I checked P...... yep, there I am!

I try to avoid news broadcasts of any description these days but the client I care for insists on having the news channel on all day and night which consist of the same five minutes of items repeated ad nauseum with various segments of longer bits chucked in from time to time. Anyway its all very dark and depressing stuff, the current batch of world leaders, politicians etc seem determined to take us all to hell in a handbasket, the oceans are filling up with tons of plastic debris that is breaking down into tiny fragments and entering the food chain, half the world is a war zone with endless streams of refugees fleeing for their lives in search of a Shangri-la that doesn't exist, need I go on?

Well, you did turn up on THE one day and THE one night that I went away without taking my Laptop with me?! ... and, no!, I can't get WIFI access on my Pyjama Case! ... Hee, Hee, Hee!!! ;o>

Poor Mrs P - it all sounds so endlessly slow and extremely painful for her ;o< ... I hope the New Year will bring about a successful recovery for her in the end and make it more than worth her while in undergoing such Surgeries ... x x x

message 405: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments Welcome!!!

I feel a need to keep roughly up to date with what is happening in the news, but I agree that most of it is just depressing and often repetitive.

Mrs P finds being able to shower again just heavenly, but her foot feels so vulnerable without the protective wadding. There's a lot longer to go for her yet. Just hope she feels the benefit in time.

Combining news with hospital operations, many hospitals are currently suspending all minor ops to move staff into A&E and also to free up beds for A&E admissions. Mrs P was lucky to get her op done at this time of year it would seem.

It had the one long horn, one big eye
I commenced to shakin' and I said "ooh-eee"
It looks like a purple eater to me

It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
(One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater)
A one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
Sure looks strange to me (one eye?)"

How he ever gets any mail?

Granny | 93 comments The pink and purple snails are delightful. The new year is fairly uneventful. I watched Star Wars.
We haven't had much snow but it has been cold. The ice fishermen are delighted as the ice has gotten thick. Folks drive their trucks out on the lakes, pulling their shanties. Just watch Grumpy Old Men and you'll get the idea.
I hope the healing of everyone is progressing quickly.

So glad to hear that you are okay there, Granny, as here in the UK we are being shown News Reports of all of the extreme Winter weather that is happening across the USA right now.

I heard that and thought Frank Zappa must have come back from the dead to write the weather forecast.

message 424: by Granny (new)

Granny | 93 comments Beware the yellow snow...especially if you have labradors.
Wisconsin has much less snow than usual. It all went east. Our snowmobilers are festy but ice fishermen are gleeful. The ski hills are making snow so no worries.
I love the snail pictures!
Stay safe, everysnail.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Some may remember that I posted on here before Christmas about being uncertain over whether I had done the right thing over ordering Moisturizers from Amazon.com to the UK? As I might get a large additional Custom Duty Tax imposed on my Parcel?

Well, a box arrived just before New Year with only just two of the three bottles ordered in it - both of them immaculately packed and well-sealed - but with no Paperwork or any explanation as to why one was not included.

I gave it a couple of days over New Year and then went on Amazon.com to query the missing bottle and got a friendly Email in return saying that it was coming separately as they had realised that I would very likely have been charged quite a bit of Custom Duty on my entire order otherwise - and the third bottle turned up within 5 days of the other two and it was also immaculately packed and well-sealed ;o>

I have already left positively glowing five star Seller Feedback on their Storefront Page ... and my Mum is a very happy bunny indeed to now have several months supply of her most favourite Body Lotion.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Hee, Hee, Hee!!! ;o> ... I do quite like the Harry Potter films but doubt that I'll ever be interested in acquiring or reading the Books.

Several years ago now, the BBC decided that they would have nothing else on but just a continuous recording of Stephen Fry reading an entire Harry Potter Book throughout the whole of Boxing Day - and I diligently persevered with it for over 3 hours before I suddenly realised that I had already switched off mentally and completely lost track of what very little plot there seemed to be to it.

And I was really surprised that a Book that was aimed at children could be so endlessly rambling, so descriptive, and yet seemingly have so little actually happening in it - but maybe that was just me interpreting it like that? - or perhaps it was not one of her best Books? Either way, I'm afraid I just gave up on it after that and turned it off.

A couple of years later I saw there were a few Harry Potter films being shown over Christmas, and so I watched one, and I found it enjoyable and entertaining enough to then go on to set time aside to watch the others - and I've watched each of them a few times since then although I still haven't watched the last couple of them yet.

I'm sure both Grach and myself could argue the JKR corner, here, but I certainly don't want to drive away the little clique we have built up on here, so will leave it as every one to their own ;0)

What I will argue though, is brown sauce is lurvly, especially on a bacon sarnie, be it HP or Daddies!

Ohhh, it wouldn't ever put me off or drive me away at all, P, believe me - I just wanted to be very honest with you that unfortunately the Harry Potter Books just don't interest or captivate me like they have very clearly done so for so many others.

Like you say each to their own - and so I have tried, in my own little way, to keep this lovely Thread going. I'm just hoping that, nevertheless, there is still enough of the original Snail Thread chats and themes on here for you and Granny to still want to keep on with using it as your new Home.

It is such a shame that there are only two of you around now and I wouldn't ever want to lose you both because this Goodreads Snail Thread is no longer of quite the same interest to you as it previously was when it was on Amazon.

message 442: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I never liked the look or the smell of Brown sauce in the past and so I have always loyally stuck fast to using my favourite Heinz Tomato Ketchup instead.

However, in the last couple of years, I have tried it out a few times and been quite surprised to find it to be rather nice with Bacon and Sausages - although I still wouldn't ever want to put it on a Fried Egg ;o>

message 443: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Jan 14, 2018 05:46AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I have asked this before, on the Amazon Forums, but it seemed that no-one was quite sure of the answer ... what exactly is the difference between HP, Daddies, or OK Sauce?

Are they all basically the same or do they all taste quite different to each other?

I've only tried out HP up until now ;o>

Oooooooh, I absolutely love a couple of Fried Eggs!

Cooked in only just a barely greased non-stick Pan until the Whites are all done but the Yolks are still deliciously runny ... a generous sprinkle of freshly ground Black Pepper and Ketchup on the Whites which must be eaten first by cutting them around and away from the Yolks ... and then the whole Yolk must be carefully lifted up on the Fork and placed in the Mouth and ... Ohhhhhhh! ... Yummy-yummy-yummy!!! ... ;o> ... ;o> ... ;o>

No, I like a nice sunny-side-up fried egg slipped into a bacon sandwich. No ketchup and denifitely no brown sauce. The younger Little Miss D has HP Sauce on just about everything but even she won't put it on eggs.

For me brown sauce is almost as abominable as beetroot. I still have memories of teenage years before big brother moved out: he would have half a plate of food from the chippy and cover the rest of the plate with curry sauce, pickled beetroot, pickled eggs, pickled onions and brown sauce (I think Daddy's was his preferred brand but he liked OK Fruity, too). As tech would say: boak.

Overcooked fried eggs are pretty pointless. If the only eggs on offer had solid yolks I wouldn't bother with eggs at all.
