I suppose it's much more a case of those who do it deliberately, like on the numerous cookery/chat shows - "Lets see what this tastes like - mm, mmm, mmmn, lovely, you can really taste the ..."
bloody well tell us AFTER you've finished that mouthful, not during!

Change of subject:

Having lived here for 20 months, I've just found out that there is a Fire Station and Library in the village, and the Pub does a takeaway menu!

Either I need to get out more and notice what's around me, or I should have been reading the local publications when they came through the letterbox :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Do you want to know something that is rather sad? ... I live relatively close enough to our Village Centre where most of the local Shops and Businesses are and, not being a Driver, I would always walk through it or all around it almost every day of my life for over 30 years - until I suddenly became so severely disabled almost overnight back in 2010 - and nothing ever really changed at all in all of that time?! We had no Cafes or any Card or Gift Shops only just the most basic essential small Shops and that was it.

Since I became disabled, I only get to see the Village Centre once every couple of months, briefly as we drive through it, on the way to the Hairdressers or to the Hospital - and over this last decade the whole area has changed SO much and all for the better too. There are several busy Pubs, a couple of lovely looking Gift and Card Shops and at least 12 new Restaurants and Cafes that have appeared with some going out of business a couple of years on and then new ones have moved in ... and I've only got to see all of this wonderful transformation in blink-or-you'll-miss-it glances out of the Car Window as we go past? ... really sad, hey? ;o<

I hope one day that I'll meet someone who will help me to get off out again and to be able to get to go into the Village at least once a week and to feel like I am still a part of where I live.

So, if and also while you still can, Kid, you get yourself out there and get exploring - because you never really get to know just what you might be missing out on sometimes until it's gone - Go for it! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I'm in tears now - LOL!!! ;o>

Ahhh well, if someone else gains anything useful from me saying all that then it's well worth posting up. I've always been an enabler all of my life but it never occurred to me that one day I might also need someone to help enable me and that there might not be anyone. Still? - you never know what the future might hold and the very best of everything might still be yet to come?!! ;o>

That went well - not even three miles down the road we had to do a stop and swap with Mrs Grizzly being my chauffeur for the rest of the journey.

Never mind - little steps :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Mrs Grizzly? ... that'll mean at least eighty bobbies are now after you! ;o>

message 4410: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you really think that any bobbies who know or have encountered Mrs Grizzly are going to be after us?

It's just not worth the aggravation for them :)

Funnily enough, we were talking earlier about being pulled over by the police and in nearly thirty years of driving, Mrs Grizzly has only been stopped once.
Me? About eight times in my first year of driving, just for "routine checks".

Martin O' | 2196 comments Bought a bar of the Cadbury one for Mrs O but she was not impressed in the least, neither was my daughter.

message 4417: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Interesting - thanks Martin ... I was hoping that the 'extra oomph' of chocolateyness might possibly be the breakthrough for me in getting to enjoy Chocolate again.

message 4418: by Martin (new)

Martin O' | 2196 comments Mrs O said it was neither one or tuther and definetly inferior to both. But others may differ in their opinions. Like your goodself I find my taste for chocolate has dwindled lately, now and again the urge for a particular brand comes over me but rarely lasts, the latest being Boost bars I came across last week whilst shopping and couldn't remember what they tasted like, a soft chewy biscuity filling by Cadbury though nothing like the more familiar Twix. Whatever happened to Aztecs bars?

message 4419: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Well, according to this Blog ... https://emmasweetblog.wordpress.com/2... ...

"Working in the world of confectionery I often have customers enquire if I know what happened to their favourite sweet treat. This time I have gone on a quest to find out what happened to Aztec Bars, Secret Bars and Spangles.

Aztec Bars were launched in 1967 by Cadbury as answer to Mars Bars. Mars Bars had been on the market and sweet shop counter since 1932 and Cadbury wanted in on the fun of the Mars Bar “work, rest, play” ethos. Aztec Bars were made up of nougatine, caramel and milk chocolate. The best bit was that the milk chocolate covering the inside contents was Cadburys milk chocolate. The worst bit was the advertising, it could not rival Mars. Aztec Bar advertising was filmed in a real Aztec temple and during the late 60s and early 70s a cardboard cut out of an Aztec warrior could be found in supermarkets advertising this delightful bar.

Aztec was half a penny cheaper (old money) than its Mars Bar equivalent. Sadly even saving the half pennies couldn’t save Aztec Bars and they were discontinued in 1978. They were briefly bought back from the chocolate archives and childhood memories for a revival for the turn of the millennium, sadly this was very brief, and once again Aztec Bars have gone to the retirement home for confectionery"

Martin O' | 2196 comments I must say I am enjoying the HP books as read by Stephen Fry immensely, now up to Prisoner Of Azkaban Chapter 10. The only downside is I find his voice very relaxing and keep dropping off then spend minutes retracing where I was. Though a tad expensive I decided to indulge myself although the remaining family members are happily availing themselves also.

message 4421: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't say as Audio Books really appeal to me - I prefer to do my own reading whether it be a proper book or my kindle app on my phone simply because I then form my own impression of the characters contained within.
I also prefer to read a book before watching a film or T.V. series based on that book as I managed with some of the Terry Pratchett Discworld adaptations and Game of Thrones.
I've never picked up a Harry Potter book or even seen any of the films all the way through either - not because I haven't wanted to, normally because there have been interruptions whenever I've tried!

message 4422: by [deleted user] (new)

Another bright start to the day though it is a touch on the cool side at the moment. Windows are open but not the back door yet - that can wait until it gets a bit warmer.

Dinner today will be slow cooked liver and onion served in giant yorkies with peas and carrots :)

message 4423: by suzysunshine7 (last edited May 16, 2019 04:48AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I know I would really enjoy regular access to Audio Books but I still haven't made much of an effort in that direction so far - mainly because I get put off by the cost. Years ago I started borrowing the odd one from the extremely limited stock at our local Library - and you can probably guess as to just how long ago that was because I used to get them in the only format that there was then ... Cassette Tapes ;o>

I love wandering round the House doing Housework or just sitting down being busy with something else whilst also listening to someone (preferably with a nice voice) telling me a Story. I suppose it is a natural progression for me to feel like this after so many years now of enjoying listening to Short Stories, Plays and Afternoon Theatres on the Radio.

I haven't used the Library for almost a decade now as I mainly went to use the PCs before it all got too much for me to go and sit there instead of being far more settled and comfortable with my Laptop at Home. I do use my local Libraries Digital Services to download free copies of Magazines that I once used to pay a small fortune for in Subscriptions though - Good Housekeeping, Good Food Magazine, Prima, etc ...

I'm guessing that all the Audio Books will be on CD now? - or has a new format come into being? I really should check them out as although I keep myself busy in my own way, compared to so many other folk, I have far too much time on my Hands - so I've got no real excuse not to, bar the ever-constant exhaustion that persists in wiping out my energy. It's an ongoing battle at the moment to stop apathy from setting in and taking over.

Don't even go there!

Last week, while I was weak and helpless, Mrs Grizzly came upstairs with a pint glass of what looked to me like beer.
"I'm surprised that you're drinking a beer, dear" I said
"Beer?" she replied, "Yuck, I wouldn't touch that stuff, it's disgusting. No, I fancied trying a Port and lemonade."
"MY 10 year old Tawny Port!? With lemonade!?" I spluttered.
"Yeah, do you want me to mix you one?"

And she wonders why I've got high blood pressure.

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Why not buy Mrs Grizzly her own Bottle of Cockburns Special Reserve? - and a Bottle of Tesco's own Lemonade as a Mixer as it's the best Lemonade we've come across so far for getting the lemony part of it just right ;o>

message 4445: by [deleted user] (new)

As I couldn't go anywhere or see straight to do an online shopping order, there was no wine in the house for Mrs Grizzly. She wasn't prepared to go down the shops on her way to work so, as a 'last resort' (her words), she decided to try a Port and lemonade.
Her verdict? "Not bad, but I'll stick to wine unless there's nothing else."

Sounds great! ... I've looked into Ocado for us but it doesn't seem to have enough of the rather specific brands and things that we like- and the minimum order limit always used to be £80 here until quite recently which was always going to be beyond us for our more usual general shopping.

I've seen and heard lots of very good things about them though ;o>

message 4450: by [deleted user] (new)

I've heard that some of their drivers can be a bit grumpy :)

Had a look through what they have to offer and some stuff looks to be good value, others expensive. That said, to get everything I wanted at a price I want to pay I could easily end up visiting a different supermarket every day of the week. As it is, I sometimes go to two or three stores on a day off to get what I want.
