If you were making it yourself and had to buy all of the Ingredients in from scratch then you'd end up having to buy in large whole packs of everything - and it very likely would end up costing you the same, if not much more.

A dull, grey and slightly cooler day here today - glad we got all the outdoor jobs sorted earlier in the week :)

Been busy this morning portioning and bagging meat bought the other day from the butchers counter at our local Dobbies and a large side of salmon from Tesco, all of which has gone into the freezer and working out what to do for dinner today. I think we've settled on thick cut pork chops served with a white vegetable covered in a dairy sauce :)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments So, we have got a poorly Moo again today ... (*sigh*) ... as, although we have done our best to keep her ticking over on Antacids and she was doing quite well and seemed to be back to normal for the most part, she suddenly started with being ill again yesterday ;o<

There is some good news though - and that is that I'm fairly sure now that I've worked out what the problem is? ... Wheat and Gluten Intolerance ... and what do her favourite Markie Biscuits contain? - Wheat and Gluten.

She has had them every day for years and with no obvious side effects before now - but - every time she has slowly recovered she has not been given anything but her usual wet Dog Food and Chicken and then had her usual dry Dog Food (Wheat-free) gradually included. And, once she has been deemed well again, she has gone back onto her Biscuits and after a couple of days has then needed for the Antacid to be continued.

She normally only has two but I've caught my Dad out a few times this last week on giving her three while still insisting to us that he is only ever giving her her usual amount and she has started with having occasional Reflux retches again during the night even with the daily Antacid.

Yesterday, I caught him once again giving her three and when I tried to explain to him that she was only supposed to have two he sadly just turned it into yet another massive temper tantrum and stormed off. Mum had already had more than enough of my Dad being difficult for one day and was lying down upstairs so I had to go upstairs and let her know what had happened ... and when we came downstairs we discovered that Dad had decided to give the Girls yet another Biscuit each.

Within four hours poor Moo suddenly started to hunch over and look uncomfortable and upset by it and then the relentless Runs started up again. She had to have a Pain-killing Injection at the Vets last night and has been put back on a course of Antibiotics on top of her Antacids once more - and I'm convinced now that it was the double dose of Biscuits that set her off.

She had a rather miserable night but she seems a bit better and brighter in herself today - although she doesn't want anything to eat and it is all for the best that she doesn't eat anything quite yet anyway.

I'm SO glad that I feel like we have finally got all of this figured out now - but feel so sorry for her while she is still feeling so 'ruff' in her sweet little self ;o<

Val H. | 22169 comments Lez - not like fruit cake!!!! That is sacrilege!! Luckily I'm the only one in our family who loves fruit cake. More for me!! Our Christmas cake lasted until Feb 24 this year - and it was delicious right down to the last crumb.

message 3874: by [deleted user] (new)

Me?
I like a bit of fruit cake but absolutely can't stand the taste of marzipan. If we do have Christmas cake I end up throwing away the icing as well as it doesn't tend to separate too easily from the marzipan.
Don't even mention Battenberg :)

message 3875: by [deleted user] (new)

Alternating between bright and hazy here at the moment with a gentle breeze. Still warm enough to have the windows open and give the house a bit of an airing :)

message 3876: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments I’ve never liked any dried fruit, so no fruit cake, Eccles cake, bread and butter pud, fruit scones etc., etc. Hate marzipan too. I’m not a cake person in general.

Martin O' | 2196 comments Mrs O' has been baking scones today (YAY!!), so form an orderly queue behind Suzy if you please. Yesterday was grey skies and a wintery cold wind but improved today with a lot of sunshine which warmed up quite nicely this afternoon. Treated myself to a Sean Lock box set which I will watch some later.

I don't believe what some couples spend on a weddings....£25k in some cases, or more. Rediculous when one thinks about it...as stats show that half of all marriages in the western countries, fail within 5 years these days.

So, what's the point of getting married in first place? Might as well hedge one's bets..and spend the money on a all out mega holiday of a lifetime, while the going's good! :)

Lez | 7490 comments My wedding in 1972 cost around £30 including a meal for 12. I made my dress (red, black and white) for under a fiver. The best man took the photos. No fancy car, just a taxi to the register office.
Perfect day, exactly how we wanted!

message 3881: by [deleted user] (new)

I forget how much our wedding cost in 2000, but it certainly wasn't a lot - the cost of the register office, a set of smart clothes each and the cost of putting together a buffet back at our place.
My oldest step-daughter was in charge of photos, which we paid to have developed :)

Val H. | 22169 comments 1975 : we both had our hair done (it really needed it because we had our honeymoon in advance of the wedding - two months camping in New Zealand, packing up the tent and moving on every day), the cost of the licence, a whole £11 for the photos from a bloke who worked the Registry Office and we took the two couples we'd invited to the ceremony for dinner in Auckland's best hotel. Oh, and add on the fine for getting our hire car out of hock when it was towed away (parked in a "Clearway After 4.00pm").

So you were right then, it was the biscuits. Have you managed to source an alternative yet?

message 3890: by [deleted user] (new)

It's another gorgeous day here - blue skies with very little cloud and pleasantly warm too with temps just nudging the teens.
Of course, with it being a Sunday, there are all the usual sounds to be expected - birds singing in the garden, a whole symphony of lawnmowers and strimmers, people driving down our road with their music blasting and, in the distance, the sound of motorbikes going flat out down the bypass.
There's only one sound missing - on just about every decent weather day someone is normally up there in a plane doing aerobatics, but not today :)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments Grizzlygrump wrote: "So you were right then, it was the biscuits. Have you managed to source an alternative yet?"

Well, I can't be 100% sure but she certainly does appear to recover well in all of the times in between her going back onto Biscuits? It doesn't appear to be the fresh Chicken or either of the wet and dry versions of her Dog Food that is causing her to suffer with such severe IBS episodes?

Actually, I have ordered a couple of (very expensive!) alternatives to try out on her - but she does love her Markies and her Bonios and she can be a little bit fussy when it comes to what she likes and doesn't like.

It wasn't that easy to guess what might just tickle her fancy - and, although I've found quite a few Grain-free (Gluten-free) Biscuit Treats on offer, I can't be sure as to which are the most popular best-selling ones as only a couple seem to have more than just 1 or 2 Reviews.

I've ordered a bag of ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Burns-Keltie... ... and a bag of ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Burns-Sensit...

Another big problem I've had is that I want a reasonably chunky bigger Biscuit Treat (Markie or Bonio sized) and a lot of the ones I've come across are tiny little crunchy Treats that look more like her usual dry Dog Food in shape. She likes to have something she can play Throw&Fetch and Football with first - until she decides that it's time to eat it ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments It's actually not been too bad here either although I've not felt well enough to want to sit out today. The Sky has a lot of murky grey Clouds continually passing over but there are blue Skies and the occasional moments of bright warm Sun still showing themselves.

Mitz has been hanging around looking hopeful for over an hour and is now mithering for her Tea?!! I've been reminding her of the time - 5.30pm is Woofer Teatime - but her Body Clock is obviously in disagreement with the Kitchen Clock!

It's great to see her hungry again - although it has now been two days since she last had a 'result' ... ! It feels like the whole House is forever hanging on and holding it's breath - focussed entirely on waiting for our little Mitz to have a successful and normal Bowel Movement!!! - LOL!!! ... ;oO ... ;o>
